Latvia's pro-European ruling party wins election as populists gain ground

With more than 99.9 per cent of votes counted, Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs' United List party was in the lead with 35.4 percent, according to state TV.

00:12According to election data, Kulberg's four-party coalition won with 35.4%,

00:23a record for the post-independence history of the former Soviet Republic.
00:27The parliamentary poll saw a voter turnout above 51%.
00:33Kulberg's, who became Prime Minister only in May, said the result was higher than expected.
00:39The result also points to a continued pro-European and pro-Ukrainian cause for Latvia.
00:46Like its Baltic neighbours Lithuania and Estonia,
00:50Latvia strongly supports Ukraine in its fight against Moscow's invasion.
00:54The small Baltic nation borders both Russia and Belarus.
