00:00We don't have an update on Alexander Barkoff yet.
00:02He left yesterday in the second period when the Panthers were taking on the Sharks.
00:07And Panthers got down 3-0.
00:09They came back tied at 3-3.
00:10They lost in overtime, 4-3.
00:12So they did get a point at Tulo Sturinen.
00:15He had a couple of goals.
00:18So great job by him.
00:20Matthew Gachuk, he lit the lamp.
00:21But the Panthers, unfortunately, lost in OT.
00:25They'll be back at it on Sunday taking on the Ducks.
00:28But the big thing that we're all waiting for is what happens to Alexander Barkoff here?
00:32What happens to the Panthers?
00:34If Alexander Barkoff is significantly hurt, if the worst happens, is this the end of a dynasty?
00:44I genuinely am asking that because there was a point where the Panthers looked like this train was going to
00:50be unstoppable.
00:52And there are a couple of things that usually stop a dynasty.
00:56One of them is age and the other is health.
00:59And the Panthers have been hit by two of those because basically they've gone into this thing.
01:04They decided their goalie was too old and they needed to go and get somebody new.
01:08And their captain now may have critical knee injuries back-to-back seasons.
01:12If everything was top-notch and on it, yeah, this Panthers train could probably keep rolling for another four, five
01:20years.
01:21But even with the addition of Brady Gachuk, you know, as talented as he is, he's never been through three
01:28rounds of the playoffs.
01:30We don't know how that's all going to go together.
01:32We can't just assume we've already done this.
01:35We thought this last year.
01:36A lot of people thought, ah, just hold the fort down.
01:38And it was the year for Mel.
01:39Now, they are going to get Marshy back.
01:41Marshy is on ice and skating with them.
01:44And, you know, hopefully he can get through this season because he was also, he's also with this.
01:49It's by next month, correct?
01:52They said he was going to be back next month, but it may be even bumped up earlier, Jennifer.
01:56It depends.
01:57I mean, he is with the team.
02:00So that's good news.
02:01He is getting some work with them.
02:02But how can you not fear that?
02:05If Barky's not able to go, you had this team was, you know, maybe not the overwhelming favorite in odds,
02:11but every expert, overwhelmingly, the experts were picking this team to win.
02:16And if you don't have your captain, I just don't understand.
02:19I just don't think we could undersell what a big deal this is because we still have.
02:25This is not the Panthers from a few years ago where, like, even up to the fourth line is proven.
02:30There's still some guys that have to prove themselves.
02:32And you haven't even gotten Jonah Gajevich back yet.
02:35We don't know how Jacob Markstrom is going to roll through a playoff series.
02:38Like, it's a huge deal.
02:40Like, this, to be two games in to this season, I just, yeah, it is, it's crushing.
02:49And it just, it felt like that last night.
02:51I sat, I sat there looking at my ceiling and just being like, is it over?
02:55Is it over for the cats?
02:57If they can't get by.
02:59I think it's also, like, what do they want to do?
03:03It's like, if you find out that it's a pretty significant injury, it's going to take him some time to
03:07come back.
03:07Do you become desperate and you go and try and find someone else to bring in?
03:13Or do you let you ride, do you ride with what you have and see what they can do?
03:18And then at that point, obviously, once the season ends, and if you don't make a significant run in the
03:24playoffs, then I think that's when you should start worrying about the dynasty being over.
03:29Yeah, but even, even the texter who's saying, hey, go get, go get Dylan Larkin and, and get him out
03:36of, get him out of Detroit.
03:37Like, all right, dude, but it ain't Barky.
03:40Like, I, I just think it's, it's one of these things where, yes, they are deep and you still got
03:45all, all of our faves, right?
03:47You got Carter, we got, we got the Sam's, we got the Kachucks.
03:53I get it, dude.
03:53We'll have Marshy.
03:55We got, we got the polar bear.
03:56We got Seth Jones.
03:57We still got a loaded, loaded squad.
03:59But again, there's a difference between being a good team and winning the championship and we've seen how fragile that
04:10stuff can be and how much these things swing.
04:12And I think those are the times where you got to lean on your leaders and we have a new
04:17goalie.
04:19We, so we don't know how that's going to be, that stuff gets very tentative in the playoffs.
04:24Look how many great goalies fold and wilt and get put on the bench in the playoffs.
04:29Even if they have good regular seasons happens all the time, dude, honor happened with him happened with, uh, with
04:36Skinner happened, uh, with, with Carolina's goalie last year, Anderson, like, and you know, we got, we got Marshy and
04:45we got a 25 year old in Schmidt last night who, you know, bounce back after a bit of a
04:49tough start for the team.
04:51He, he, he, he locked in, but I don't know, man, like, we're going to do this thing again.
04:56Like, I feel like we did this last year where we're like, Oh dude, Barky's out, but we're going to
05:00be okay.
05:00We're going to hold down the fort.
05:01And they did not hold down the fort.
05:03I think it was different last year.
05:04There was a lot of, there was a lot of injuries to very key players.
05:09And right now you're not looking at that.
05:11You're going to get Marchy back.
05:12I mean, I know Gadgevich is out indefinitely, but you're, you're hoping that he comes back before the season's over,
05:20obviously.
05:20Which is also been on the ice, but we're just saying it on the ice.
05:24Okay.
05:24Good news.
05:25So I don't think, I think you're getting a little ahead of yourself.
05:30I don't know if I am, because here's the thing.
05:32The guy, Marshy is Marshy's great.
05:34He's old as hell.
05:35And that's what everybody said when they signed him.
05:37They're like, eh, you should have maybe gotten out of the getting is good on him.
05:40Even as fun as he is, he is still old, you know, and, and, and all that's he's as skilled
05:46as they come.
05:47Um, but you know, I will like, are things going to happen?
05:51Like Brittany is at two Lusterin and his grill going to blow up his feet again?
05:55No, probably not.
05:56Will Seth Jones take a puck off the collarbone?
05:59Yeah, probably not.
06:01But now, but here's the thing.
06:03If Alexander Barkov, like, let's just even let's blow it up a little bit.
06:07Let's take it out of this season.
06:09All right.
06:09Let's say the season is cooked because if you have Barky, don't have Barky.
06:13I feel like we're cooked, but now what is this?
06:16What's his career to two torn knees in back-to-back years.
06:21This is severely depressing.
06:23This is an iron man.
06:25I think that is the biggest question is if it is.
06:32How am I being the yum yucker?
06:34You're being a yuck yummer.
06:36That's what a yuck yummer is.
06:37Oh, sorry.
06:38I was like, I'm being positive here.
06:39It's reverse.
06:41Yeah, yeah.
06:42I think at that point, at the end of the season, if it is a significant injury, then the Panthers
06:47have to make a decision of, you know, or maybe he has to make a decision of maybe it's time
06:53to hang it up.
06:54What?
06:55Now, that's a good question.
06:57That's a good question to ask.
06:59But to say that we're cooked for the whole season, we don't even know what he's saying.
07:03We don't even know what his injury is.
07:05You have a good question to ask.
07:05I'm kind of hurt right now.
07:06I know I don't.
07:07I know I don't know what the injury is.
07:09Okay.
07:09No.
07:10I just asked a question straight up.
07:11He's dancing around the question.
07:14He's dancing around the question because that's exactly what he's thinking.
07:17Don't let him fool you with his reaction.
07:19What?
07:20I just said what he was saying.
07:23You were dancing.
07:24Yes, you've been dancing around it.
07:25You've been dancing around it.
07:27What am I dancing around?
07:30You're by insinuating that the dynasty is over.
07:32It could be over.
07:34If Barkov is done, the dynasty could be dead.
07:37We don't have Bobrovsky and we don't have Barkov for the last two years.
07:43How much more dead do you want the dynasty to be?
07:45That is like a killer.
07:47That's my point.
07:48If you think that Barky gets hurt, right?
07:51Let's say he tears his ACL on his other leg.
07:53Like, knock on wood.
07:55I really don't want that to be the case.
07:56You don't have wood.
07:58I don't have wood.
08:00You know what?
08:01I just might as well into all of that.
08:03Why?
08:03There's no wood.
08:04I have wood.
08:04I have wood at this.
08:06Knock on the wood.
08:07Mm-hmm.
08:09You're looking.
08:10The Panthers are going to have to make a decision about him.
08:13Well, I think he's still.
08:14I mean, his contract is still.
08:15What has he got left?
08:15He's got a while, I think, still on there.
08:18Let me see.
08:20It's not like they can just cut bait on him.
08:22Like, that's pretty cold.
08:23You're throwing him out to the curb?
08:24I'm not.
08:25What were you insinuating?
08:27He's going to be a part of a rebuild?
08:30He's still got four years left on his deal.
08:32You're not.
08:33But what are you exactly insinuating then?
08:35That he's going to be a part of a rebuild?
08:37I'm not insinuating that he's going to be part of a rebuild, but I'm telling you, like,
08:40if you don't have your best player for two straight seasons and you have an unproven goaltender
08:45and you've now gone to this, you've now gone back-to-back years where you've lost Barkov
08:51and now you don't know because, well, as I get it, you guys didn't want to invest in
08:56Sergei Bobrovsky because he's old.
08:58Okay, fine.
08:58But we still don't know that someone's going to step up like he did and be able to handle
09:02the pressure like he did because there's a lot of pressure in the playoffs.
09:06But that's already a question that if Barkov is on the ice or not, your Markstrom questions
09:12are still there.
09:14For sure.
09:14But yes, that's true.
09:17But Barkov is one of the best two-way players in the league.
09:20Like, he can go and shut down the McDavid's of the world.
09:23He can go and chase them around the ice the entire time and match them up game for game.
09:28And while Reinhardt can do some of that too, it's not Barky.
09:34And Barky is the captain.
09:35And yeah, if you were to say like, hey, what are the least – if we were sitting here,
09:40Brittany, and we were – if it's you and me at Lulu's Bait Shack and we're watching
09:45the parade – that's where we watched the parade the last time – and we're sitting
09:50here and I'm drinking my fishbowl of Rum Runner and thinking to myself, ha, ha, ha,
09:55this will never stop.
09:57Cats parades for the next four years.
10:00If I were to say to you, how could this end?
10:02The only ways I would tell you is Sergei Bobrovsky gets old and Alexander Barkov isn't here.
10:09And two of those things have – two of those things are now true.
10:13One of them was true last year and one is true this year.
10:16And if two of those things are true this year, we may be cooked.
10:18I just think that – I just think that, one, we don't know his injury.
10:24So, we're speaking very hypothetically right now.
10:28I understand.
10:29That's number one.
10:30Number two, you're comparing it to last season when it's nothing like last season.
10:36It's exactly like last season.
10:38What are you talking about?
10:40Nobody –
10:40Because we have Brady?
10:41It's not the same injury.
10:43It's – okay.
10:44It's unrelated.
10:45No, not even about that.
10:46It's that you added Brady Kachuk, okay?
10:48You have a completely different goaltender.
10:51Everyone else is healthy except for Jonah Gajic.
10:53And, like, they're saying Forsling is coming back.
10:56He's day-to-day.
10:57He should be playing the next game.
10:58He's going to be fine.
10:58Yeah, don't worry about Forsling.
10:58He's going to be fine.
11:00You are – you're allowing your emotions from last season to get the better of you.
11:05You have to –
11:06Well, of course I'm allowing my emotions to get the best of me.
11:09This Rod Brinkler is walking around willy-nilly with the cup,
11:12and he's acting like a crazy person.
11:14Of course I'm having my emotions get the best of me.
11:17I saw Alexander Barkoff crumple down like a deck of cards last –
11:23like a house of cards last night on the ice.
11:25Of course I'm emotional.
11:27You don't think that the reason why they –
11:29they put such a big emphasis on getting Brady Kachuk
11:33is because in their mind they thought about the possibility
11:36and they saw what happened when Barky was out?
11:39Like –
11:42But again –
11:43They're prepared for this, and they're healthier this season.
11:49Look –
11:49To say they're cooked and they have no chance is crazy to me.
11:52If you were to – if I wanted to –
11:55if I didn't want to yum-yuck and I wanted to yuck-yum, all right,
12:00if I wanted to reverse this,
12:02you could talk me into, okay, you have Matthew Kachuk who's looked good.
12:08He looked fantastic last night.
12:11We haven't really had a healthy Matthew Kachuk for two years.
12:13I mean, he hasn't looked the same since really he cracked his sternum
12:17when they lost the Stanley Cup,
12:18and he had to basically wheel his way through some playoff runs.
12:26So, a healthy Matthew Kachuk with his brother
12:30and this being the Kachuk build, is that still possible?
12:34Yes, but here's the thing.
12:36I need to know that Brady Kachuk is that dude.
12:38Like, he can handle that.
12:39And I think everybody – like, that's not been what Ottawa is.
12:42Ottawa was satisfied getting to a round of the playoffs.
12:45Like, that's what they've done.
12:47He hasn't – he hasn't had to wear that burden for an entire round.
12:50Now, he's got Broski there.
12:51Big Bro and his dad are around, and they can say, hey, get it together.
12:55All right?
12:55This is winning time.
12:56This is not ridiculous Ottawa senator's time.
13:00Perhaps.
13:00Perhaps.
13:01There is a big chance of that.
13:03I don't think that Bill Zito makes that move without feeling that way.
13:07You have to think that getting Brady Kachuk was a little bit of an insurance
13:11for a situation where Barkov maybe isn't the healthiest.
13:15I didn't think of it like that.
13:16I didn't think of it like that.
13:17I think everybody thought – like, let's be real about it.
13:19But if – we all thought Barky was going to be – this is going to be a one-time
13:23thing, that he wasn't going to tear another knee, which, again, we don't know
13:26that it happens.
13:27I will be clear.
13:27I don't have any updates.
13:28We're fearing the worst.
13:30I'm not okay.
13:32We is a lot of people.
13:33You're not French.
13:34You are fearing the worst.
13:36Brittany?
13:38Jennifer's fearing the worst, too.
13:39She's just not saying it.
13:40No, no, no.
13:41I'm also not being dramatic like you are.
13:43Like, you're bringing me down.
13:45Dude, you're not fearing the worst.
13:46I was sad.
13:47I was heartbroken already.
13:49I was heartbroken already, but you're just making me feel worse.
13:52That's fine.
13:53But are you fearing the worst?
13:55No, I'm trying to stay positive, but you're just trying to give me down.
13:59That's ridiculous.
13:59You're trying to stay positive.
14:00You're fearing the worst or you're not fearing the worst.
14:02Do you fear the worst?
14:03You can't tell me how I feel, Tobin.
14:05I think she's fearing the worst.
14:06She doesn't want to admit it to you, Brittany.
14:08I'm not fearing the worst.
14:10I'm not fearing the worst.
14:11I think when an athlete gets hurt like Barkie did last year, any injury as fast as coming
14:21into the season as what just happened to him last night, he's going to be pissed.
14:25It's going to make him angry.
14:27Look, we're coming off a situation where freaking Caleb Williams was screaming and crying like
14:32if he tore his Achilles on the field and rode off in a car, okay?
14:38And guess what?
14:39Buddy's going to be back next week.
14:42Bill chimes in on Twitter.
14:43He says, I think you're understating last year.
14:46Kachuk and Jones were both out half the year.
14:48Marshy was out a third.
14:49Kulikov was the full year.
14:50That's too much.
14:51It's just Barkov.
14:52They can handle things.
14:53Brady is an upgrade.
14:54Of course he is.
14:55Brady is an upgrade on talent.
14:57And again, could they have a fine ring?
14:59Do I think the Panthers are going to not make the playoffs?
15:02If they don't have Alexander Barkov?
15:03No.
15:04I think they can still make the playoffs.
15:05I'm talking about winning the championship.
15:09We are a, if we're going for dynasty, okay?
15:13It's not make the playoffs.
15:15It is running hockey.
15:18The Panthers were sitting here three straight seasons running hockey.
15:24And if you don't have your captain, it's not about, can the Panthers be competitive?
15:28Can they still put up a fight?
15:30For sure.
15:31Okay.
15:31I will walk that back and say, it's not like the Panthers are going to have a year of hell
15:36like last year and not make the playoffs.
15:38I don't think that's the case.
15:40I think all of your points are sound on that.
15:41But I'm not talking about that.
15:43The Panthers are not a regular season team.
15:46Okay.
15:46They are a contender whose line is get to the Stanley Cup and win the Stanley Cup, not get to
15:55the conference championship, not get into the playoffs.
15:58Their bar is make the Cup, win the Cup.
16:02That's where it has to be.
16:04And if you don't have Alexander Barkoff, I just don't think that's going to be easy.
16:09I think what makes the Cats special is unbelievable unselfishness and unbelievable depth.
16:15But the heartbeat of their team, which is everybody will tell you that he is.
16:19Because if he's done back-to-back years, like, dude, that's a crusher.
16:25I don't know what to tell you.
16:26Like, if you told me it was anybody else, like, if you told, you know, if it's Ekblad or if
16:33it's Rhino, like, maybe so.
16:35But the amount that he does for his standing in the game, I don't know, man.
16:41I just, I don't know how we could just chalk it up to you guys think, oh, we did the
16:46exact same thing last year.
16:48And I get it.
16:49Year from hell.
16:50But I'm not talking about making the playoffs.
16:53That was the whole plan last year.
16:54Here, make the playoffs, Barky will be back for the playoffs.
16:57It could be a similar situation.
17:01He's not coming back for the playoffs if he has back-to-back year-ending injuries.
17:04He's got to take science and take a seat for a second.
17:07All right, he already beat science once.
17:09You can't beat science twice.
17:11You can't?
17:12I don't think so.
17:13You're really down in the dumps because you're saying you can't beat science twice.
17:16Of course I'm down in the dumps.
17:17Did you see him leave yesterday?
17:19I did, Tobin.
17:21But we don't know what the injury is.
17:24And do we feel confident in what Paul Maurice told us?
17:28It's unrelated to last season.
17:30He didn't say anything.
17:31He Paul Maurice-ed us.
17:33It's unrelated.
17:34It's unrelated.
17:34He Paul Maurice-ed us.
17:35He Paul Maurice-ed us.
17:39Look, we still have...
17:41We just started the afternoon.
17:42He says they'll have a good idea by the afternoon.
17:45So let's wait till the afternoon.
17:47That's what you're seeing before we get dramatic.
17:50Too late.
17:50Pretty dramatic.
17:51I don't think that you're not giving this team credit.
17:55And you're harping on last season.
17:58That was such an anomaly, Tobin.
18:00It was such an anomaly.
18:01The injuries.
18:02I mean, again, someone's feet...
18:03There's a lot of different factors.
18:05Someone's feet literally got put up by their barbecue.
18:08That isn't happening.
18:09His feet are fine now.
18:10His feet are fine now.
18:12He scored two goals last night.
18:13He was awesome, all right?
18:15And, you know, maybe this is the year that Lundy can get even better and take a bigger leap.
18:21You know, maybe he can become from baby Barky and he can evolve like a Pikachu into a Raichu and
18:26he can become full Barky.
18:28You know, could we actually just...
18:29Can we clone him and make him Barky?
18:33You can answer that yourself.
18:34Can we?
18:35No.
18:35Can we do that?
18:36Can you spell Monsoon with a U?
18:38Which, by the way, can I just tell you, like, control your sticks, San Jose Sharks.
18:44You guys knew what you were doing yesterday with your high sticking left and right.
18:48That's not physical hockey.
18:49That's dirty hockey.

19:39All right?
19:40They go.
19:41Could they win the...
19:42This was supposed to cement their dynastic state.
19:47No Barky?
19:49It's a tall task.
19:51Please, hockey gods.
19:53He doesn't deserve this.
19:55He's a good lad.
19:56He's a good boy.
19:57He is a good boy.
