00:00Well, we've just finished watching the debate between Democrat Javier Becerra and Republican
00:06Steve Hilton on CNN, the first and only gubernatorial debate of the general election,
00:11and Becerra lost badly. He may be winning in the polls, he may be likely to win the election,
00:17but the debate was a total disaster for him. All Becerra seemed to know how to do was to say
00:23Trump
00:23in every response. He wanted to tie Steve Hilton to Trump because Trump is deeply unpopular in
00:28California. But he couldn't defend his record, he didn't come up with any new policies,
00:33he struggled to explain some of the stances he had taken in the past, he made claims he couldn't
00:38back up. Hilton was on point, and he had clear policy ideas, he had clear criticisms of the
00:44status quo in California, and he made the case to California voters that they should try something
00:50different. He almost seemed to acknowledge it wasn't likely to work for him, that he wasn't
00:54likely to win. But he did make the case that California voters should stop doing the same
00:59thing over and over again and expecting a different result. That line, by the way, Hilton stole from
01:06Becerra. Becerra, he's just a party man, he doesn't offer anything new, and Hilton made that case very
01:12clearly. At one point, Becerra even resorted to a racial attack on Steve Hilton, saying that Hilton
01:18wanted to import immigrants who looked like him, who were white, and to deport ones who didn't.
01:23Then he attacked Hilton for being foreign, which seems like a contradiction. Anyway,
01:27a terrible debate night for Javier Becerra. It won't matter, but it was memorable.
