00:10Today we're going to make an apple tart that has so many apples and so little batter that
00:16some might wonder if I forgot the batter all together. If you want to write down the
00:24ingredients you're going to need now is the time pause the video and grab a pen and paper.
00:31In a large bowl we add the eggs, a third of a cup of sugar, about 70 grams, and a
00:40dash of vanilla.
00:44We're going to mix all of this really well. You can use a fork or a whisk but make sure
00:49it gets mixed
00:49really really well. You'll notice it got a bit frothy but don't worry that's what we're looking
00:59for. We add the butter, 70 grams as well, and 100 milliliters or half a cup of milk. As you
01:09can see
01:09I had warmed the butter up a bit so it would be liquid. Then a pinch of salt which always
01:17enhances
01:17the flavors in desserts. This is no exception. And finally we add flour, in my case regular all-purpose
01:29wheat flour.
01:34For now we're making a normal batter. But I'm telling you, today the batter's roll is a bit secondary.
01:43The batter is ready!
01:48And now it's time for the apples, which will take the most work. Because we're going to use six apples.
01:53If they're washed
01:54really well, you can use them with the skin on. If you want, you can peel it off.
01:58But what you definitely have to remove is this hard part, the core.
02:05Once you have the six apples cut up and cored, it's time to make thin slices.
02:14Simple. One after another, one after another.
02:18Here's one of the secrets. The apple has to be in thin slices. We want the effect of multiple layers,
02:26not thick chunks.
02:30You can use a very sharp knife, or a mandoline, even a potato peeler. The point is that you get
02:38really thin slices.
02:44Now we've finished this arduous task, and we add all these slices into the bowl where we had that batter
02:49from the beginning.
02:53Just make sure, of course, your hands are freshly washed.
02:59And stir again until everything is well combined.
03:04You're probably thinking, I think there's not enough batter in there.
03:08But don't worry, that's precisely the whole point of this recipe.
03:23Yeah, looking at the bowl, it seems like a bit of a leap of faith, but trust the process.
03:29A cake is going to come out of this.
03:31And you won't believe what it looks like inside when I show you.
03:36I think it looks well mixed now.
03:38What about you?
03:41Now what I'm going to do is fill a mold.
03:43In my case, I'm using a silicone one so that it unmolds easier.
03:48And it's 22 centimeters in diameter.
03:53But you can make it in an oven-safe bowl or cake pan, which would serve about two people, or
03:59in a square one, whatever you have on hand.
04:04The trick is to compact it a little bit so that when we slice it, all the layers stay together.
04:12And once it's like this, a bit pressed down, we pop it in the oven, which we've preheated to 180
04:22degrees Celsius, about 355 Fahrenheit with the upper and lower heating elements on.
04:30Does it also happen to you that when you have a new recipe in the oven, you check on it
04:35every five minutes to see how it's doing?
04:37As if doing that would make it finish any faster.
04:43Once you see it's nice and golden, you can check it with a toothpick.
04:46If it comes out clean when you poke it, it's ready.
04:49In my case, it took 40 minutes.
04:53And let it cool down, covering it with a bit of paper towel.
04:59I know you want to try it right now!
05:02But this cake needs to chill a bit, so be patient and at least wait for it to cool down.
05:09Although if you can manage to keep it in the fridge overnight, better yet, it gets way better.
05:19To serve it, remember, turn it out onto a plate and then place it wherever you want to present it.
05:26You flip it over once more!
05:31You could brush the top with jam or honey to give it a nice shine.
05:36But as for me, having the apple just like this, nicely brown, I absolutely love it!
05:44And now I'm going to show you the important part, the inside.
05:48So delicious.
05:50And it's a creamy cake, but with layers of apple.
05:58Pure magic in the kitchen, with very little effort.
06:04Are you going to give it a try this weekend?
06:12Now I understand why it's called invisible apple cake.
06:16The apple is here, but the batter?
06:20We can't see it.
06:21Mmm.
06:27It's like eating.
06:29A cake, but it's just endless layers of apple.
06:33It's all good!
06:35Still.
06:43Are you into cakes with lots of batter?
06:47Or with lots of apples?
06:49Tell me in the comments.
06:50Let's see which one wins.
06:52And as for me, back to enjoying it.
06:54They are so good.
06:56Seriously.
06:57My goodness.
