00:04Nothing brings our daughter back.
00:10We live with that pain every day.
00:1424-year-old Jennifer Matters died in 2021,
00:17two years after being diagnosed with anorexia nervosa.
00:20Bright, thoughtful person.
00:23She was very intelligent.
00:24She wanted to help people.
00:26She was a qualified nurse.
00:28State Coroner Naomi Keriru finding that despite Ms Matters' efforts to seek treatment,
00:33the disorder very quickly took over her life
00:36and she encountered barriers to effective treatment which tragically proved insurmountable.
00:41In her findings, Ms Keriru made recommendations to improve the services available for people with eating disorders,
00:46including establishing an acute inpatient ward to keep patients out of regular wards
00:51and to review the adequacy of the number of specialised beds available.
00:54Ms Keriru also said the wait for a bed in the statewide eating disorder service unit can stretch for months.
01:01If the coroner's recommendations spared that grief for other families, that's Jenny's legacy.
01:11The Health Minister, Blair Boyer, says he's willing to meet with Ms Matters' family
01:15and says we can do more to ensure South Australians with eating disorders receive the appropriate treatment and supports.
01:22For the family, it's about making sure others don't suffer the same loss.
01:25And how see the nurses come out and die over.
