Jeep Compass looks like it should be a rugged compact SUV, but this quick test drive and review argues the badge is doing more work than the car itself. The design has Jeep-style details and a decent stance, and the only thing that really wins the reviewer over is how it looks from the right angle. Under the bonnet sits the 1.2-litre e-Hybrid mild-hybrid three-cylinder with 145 hp, but the real story is how it behaves on the road.

The review compares the Compass with other Stellantis models and points out that this version is still front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive reserved for the electric version. The suspension feels set up for rougher roads, the steering is slow, and the driving character is described as more awkward than adventurous. Fuel economy, acceleration, and everyday usability are all discussed in the context of a small SUV that costs far more than expected.

Pricing also matters here: the Jeep Compass Altitude starts at 39,990 euro, while the First Edition e-Hybrid tested here reaches 45,670 euro. The video frames the car as a stylish but expensive crossover that borrows the Jeep image without delivering the real Jeep experience. For anyone searching for Jeep Compass review, 2026 Jeep Compass test drive, compact SUV review, mild hybrid SUV, or Stellantis crossover comparison, this review offers a blunt look at the Compass, its e-Hybrid setup, and whether it is worth the money. It is useful for buyers comparing small SUVs, hybrid crossovers, and practical road test impressions before choosing a new car.

00:00this is the jeep compass or so it says on the bonnet and on the doors but no matter how
00:05many
00:05jeep easter eggs the designers have put around this car this is not a jeep and in this episode
00:11i'll explain why spoiler alert in a moment i will absolutely trash this car the only thing i like
00:21about it are its looks yes from a distance at a certain angle it looks like a jeep or rather
00:27a
00:28modern interpretation of a jeep i think it looks better than the previous two generations of the
00:32compass though that's not difficult however this is where the good news ends this jeep imposter is
00:39in fact the citron c5 aircross opel grandland or peugeot 5008 but dressed in hiking garb to make
00:46it look more adventurous let me repeat to make it look if you want to know more about the practical
00:56aspects of the jetron com cross watch my review of the real citron c5 aircross link in the video
01:02description and on the screen under the bonnet is the next generation of the three cylinder 1.2 liter
01:09puretech engine which is now called the e-hybrid because it's a mild hybrid it makes 145 horsepower
01:16which doesn't sound like much by today's standards but back in the day if you wanted an xj cherokee with
01:21more power you had to splash on a 4 liter engine however there is a problem with the 1.2
01:29poor tech
01:29and i'm not talking about the cambelled puree
02:11of course many suvs these days come with on-demand all-wheel drive with the rear axle being powered
02:17by some variation of the multi-plate clutch or a hybrid powertrain where the electric motor drives
02:23the rear wheels that's how dacia did it for example but not stellantis one of the world's
02:29automotive giants
02:34stellantis does have a phev based all-wheel drive system and you can buy the compass with a phev but
02:41only front-wheel drive if you want all-wheel drive you'll have to wait for the battery electric version
02:45but not for the regular one you'll have to splurge on the long-range model you can also import a
02:52us-spec
02:53compass for now with a two-liter petrol engine in the future there's also going to be a 1.6
02:58regular hybrid with ecvt
03:01and it's actually a prince engine which mini and pegeot owners remember
03:05oh too well
03:07if you're wondering if this can go further south from here let me assure you it can
03:14while the compass in this form will never see anything more challenging than a medium-sized curb the designers decided
03:20to keep things which make an off-roader somewhat annoying in everyday use the suspension is set up
03:27for rougher roads which you are unlikely to visit without all-wheel drive the steering is lazy like
03:33an old cat on a sunny day and the engine characteristics are like in an old diesel and that's despite
03:40this being
03:40a mild hybrid i don't know how stellantis managed to fuck this up i had the same engine with the
03:48same power
03:48in the opel frontera yes stellantis decided to violate that legend as well but at least over there
03:54nobody's pretending the frontera has anything to do with off-roading
04:01and that dacia duster that just overtook me is a better car than this
04:04of course putting the same engine with the same parameters into a larger and heavier vehicle will
04:13result in worse performance and this is the case here the compass is less economical than the
04:19frontera instead of claimed less than six liters per 100 kilometers in the combined cycle i barely
04:25managed to get it down to below eight the only positive is the acceleration in the frontera it was
04:31worse than the manufacturer claimed the compass in sport mode was marginally quicker than promised
04:38however whereas the frontera felt light and agile the way the compass is set up and how much it weighs
04:45make it feel like a much larger car than it really is
05:08the price of the jeep compass started 39 900 euro this car is the first edition model with options
05:16it costs 45 670 euro that's about three and a half grand more than a comparably specced citron c5
05:24aircross which doesn't pretend to be something that it isn't
05:31world's light in the box and you can see it in the second edition of the car that
05:32is the top of the car you can either have it or have it either
05:36or have it or have it or have it or have it or may not have it or have it
05:38or have it
05:38or have your own mood that's about it or may not have it or have it or have it you
05:39want
05:39but if you couldn't afford a jeep you still cannot afford it because this is not a jeep
