00:00There are names in history that are remembered for greatness.
00:04There are names remembered for courage.
00:06And then, there is a name that has become a synonym for pure, unfiltered wickedness.
00:14Jezebel.
00:16She was not an Israelite.
00:18She did not know the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
00:21She was a foreign princess, born into unimaginable wealth,
00:27raised in a culture of dark, violent idolatry.
00:30When she crossed the border into Israel, she did not just come as a bride.
00:35She came as a conqueror.
00:38In a matter of years, she did what no enemy army had ever been able to do.
00:43She dismantled the worship of the one true God.
00:47She tore down his altars.
00:49She hunted his prophets like animals.
00:52And she forced an entire nation to its knees before a false, lifeless idol.
00:59She thought she was untouchable.
01:01She thought her crown made her a god.
01:04She believed she had silenced the truth forever.
01:07But the God of Israel is not a god who can be silenced.
01:11He does not share his glory.
01:13This is not just a story of a wicked queen.
01:17This is a story about the illusion of earthly power,
01:22the danger of compromise,
01:25and the terrifying reality of divine judgment.
01:30This is the story of Jezebel.
01:37Stories of the Olives presents
01:41Jezebel, the woman who declared war on God.
01:47To understand the darkness Jezebel brought to Israel,
01:52you must understand where she came from.
01:55She was born on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea,
01:59in the wealthy, towering city of Tyre.
02:02Tyre was a jewel of the ancient world,
02:05a city built on trade, sailing, and massive riches.
02:09They were famous for producing a rare, incredibly expensive purple dye,
02:14a color so valuable it was worn only by kings and emperors.
02:19But the wealth of Tyre hid a dark, violent heart.
02:24Jezebel was the daughter of a man named Ethbal.
02:28Ethbal was not just the king of the Sidonians,
02:32he was originally a high priest,
02:34a priest of the goddess Astarte.
02:37History records that Ethbal did not inherit the throne peacefully.
02:42He assassinated the king before him.
02:45He murdered his way to power.
02:47This was the man who raised Jezebel.
02:51She grew up watching her father rule
02:53with absolute, ruthless authority.
02:56She grew up in the grand temples of Baal.
03:00Baal was the storm god,
03:02the god of rain,
03:03the god of fertility.
03:06But the worship of Baal was not peaceful.
03:08It was horrific.
03:10It involved temple prostitution.
03:12It involved cutting the flesh with swords and spears.
03:16And at its darkest levels,
03:18it demanded the sacrifice of children.
03:22This was Jezebel's normal.
03:24She was steeped in the worship of false gods.
03:28She believed that power was taken by force.
03:31She believed that anyone who stood in the way of a ruler
03:35should be eliminated.
03:37She was raised to be a queen of the ancient world.
03:41Fierce, uncompromising, and deadly.
03:46Meanwhile, just across the border to the south,
03:49the kingdom of Israel was fractured.
03:52Israel had split from Judah.
03:55The northern kingdom was politically unstable.
03:58Kings assassinated other kings.
04:02Dynasties crumbled
04:03until a military commander named Omri took the throne.
04:08Omri was a brilliant politician.
04:11He built a new capital city called Samaria.
04:14He fortified Israel's military.
04:17And he looked to the north,
04:18toward the wealthy kingdom of Phoenicia,
04:21and saw an opportunity,
04:23an alliance.
04:25If Israel allied with Tyre,
04:27they would gain massive wealth.
04:29Trade routes would open.
04:31Enemies would hesitate to attack them.
04:33In the ancient world,
04:35political alliances were sealed in one specific way.
04:39Marriage.
04:40Omri's son, Ahab,
04:43would marry Ethbal's daughter, Jezebel.
04:45It made perfect political sense.
04:48It was a strategic masterpiece.
04:50But spiritually,
04:51it was a death sentence.
04:53Scripture gives a terrifying summary
04:55of King Ahab's reign.
04:58Ahab's son of Omri
04:59did more evil in the eyes of the Lord
05:02than any of those before him.
05:041 Kings 1630.
05:07And his greatest sin?
05:08He not only considered it trivial
05:11to commit the sins of Jeroboam,
05:13but he also married Jezebel daughter of Ethbal.
05:17The marriage was finalized.
05:21The treaty was signed.
05:24And the princess of Tyre packed her bags.
05:29When Jezebel arrived in Israel,
05:31she found a nation already spiritually sick.
05:36The Israelites had a long history
05:38of compromising their faith.
05:41They worshipped the God of Moses,
05:43but they also worshipped golden calves.
05:46They wanted the blessings of the covenant,
05:49but they wanted to live
05:52like the pagan nations around them.
05:55Until Jezebel arrived,
05:57the God of Israel
05:58was still officially recognized.
06:01Jezebel was about to change that.
06:04She did not assimilate into Israel's culture.
06:07She demanded that Israel assimilate into hers.
06:11Ahab, desperate to please his new,
06:13powerful wife,
06:15completely surrendered his authority.
06:17He built a massive temple to Baal,
06:20right in the capital city of Samaria.
06:22He set up an altar for Baal.
06:25He made a wooden pole for the goddess Asherah.
06:29Jezebel brought hundreds of her own pagan priests from Tyre.
06:33450 prophets of Baal.
06:36400 prophets of Asherah.
06:39They were fed at the royal table.
06:42They were funded by the royal treasury.
06:45Jezebel was systematic.
06:47She was brilliant.
06:48And she was deeply wicked.
06:51She knew that to establish her gods,
06:54she had to eradicate the God of Israel.
06:58And so began the first state-sponsored religious persecution
07:02recorded in the Bible.
07:05Jezebel gave the order.
07:07The prophets of the Lord were to be hunted down.
07:10The men who spoke the truth of God
07:13were dragged from their homes.
07:15They were executed.
07:17Their blood stained the soil of the promised land.
07:20The altars of God were smashed to pieces.
07:24Fear paralyzed the entire nation.
07:27Even those who worked in Ahab's own palace were terrified.
07:31A man named Obadiah,
07:33a devout believer in the Lord
07:35who managed Ahab's household,
07:37risked his life to save a remnant.
07:41While Jezebel slaughtered the prophets,
07:43Obadiah took one hundred of them.
07:45He hid them in two caves,
07:48fifty in each.
07:49He secretly supplied them with food and water.
07:53But outside those caves,
07:55the darkness seemed absolute.
07:58Israel had fallen.
08:00The people stopped praying to the God
08:02who parted the Red Sea.
08:04They bowed their faces to the dirt
08:06before the statues of Baal.
08:08Ahab sat on the throne,
08:10wearing the crown.
08:11But everyone in the empire knew the truth.
08:15Jezebel ruled Israel.
08:17The foreign queen had won.
08:20The voice of God had been silenced.
08:23Or so she thought.
08:25God will never allow his truth
08:28to be completely extinguished
08:30when the darkness is at its deepest.
08:32God always raises up a light.
08:35He does not need an army.
08:37He does not need a political alliance.
08:40Suddenly,
08:41out of the rugged,
08:42harsh landscape of Gilead,
08:44a man appeared.
08:46He was not a politician.
08:48He was not royalty.
08:49His name was Elijah.
08:52His name literally meant,
08:54My God is Yahweh.
08:56His very name
08:57was an act of defiance against Baal.
09:01Elijah did not ask for a meeting with King Ahab.
09:04He did not negotiate.
09:06He bypassed the guards,
09:08walked straight into the royal court,
09:11and stood before the most wicked king
09:13in Israel's history.
09:14And he delivered a devastating prophecy.
09:18As the Lord,
09:19the God of Israel,
09:21lives,
09:22whom I serve,
09:23there will be neither dew nor rain
09:26in the next few years,
09:27except at my word.
09:291 Kings 17.1
09:32With one sentence,
09:35Elijah struck at the very heart
09:37of Jezebel's power.
09:39Baal was supposed to be
09:41the god of the storm,
09:42the god who brought the rain,
09:45the god who made the crops grow.
09:48Elijah was standing in the center
09:51of Baal's temple
09:51and declaring that Baal
09:53was completely powerless.
09:55The god of Israel
09:57was shutting the heavens,
09:59and no pagan priest,
10:00no foreign queen,
10:02and no false idol
10:03could open them.
10:05Before Ahab could arrest him,
10:07Elijah turned and vanished.
10:10God hid him
10:11by the Kerith ravine.
10:12God fed him with ravens.
10:15God protected him
10:16while the land began to die.
10:19The days turned into weeks.
10:21The weeks turned into months.
10:23The months turned into years.
10:26The rivers dried up.
10:28The crops withered.
10:29The ground cracked open
10:31in the blistering heat.
10:33Jezebel's priests danced.
10:34They prayed to Baal.
10:36They offered sacrifices.
10:38But the sky remained like iron.
10:41Not a single drop of rain fell.
10:44The wealth of Tyre
10:45could not buy water.
10:47The armies of Ahab
10:48could not fight a famine.
10:50For three and a half years,
10:52the false god of Israel
10:54was humiliated by the true
10:56god of heaven.
10:58The tension in the kingdom
11:00reached a breaking point.
11:02Ahab searched every neighboring country
11:04for Elijah.
11:05He demanded oaths from kings
11:07that they were not hiding the prophet.
11:09And then,
11:10in the third year,
11:12God spoke to Elijah again.
11:14Go and present yourself to Ahab,
11:17and I will send rain on the land.
11:21The time for hiding was over.
11:24The time for a showdown had arrived.
11:28Elijah intercepted King Ahab on the road.
11:31Out of my way, prophet!
11:33When Ahab saw the rugged prophet,
11:35he glared at him.
11:37Elijah!
11:38You have brought this drought upon Israel
11:40with your treachery!
11:42Elijah did not flinch.
11:44I have not made trouble for Israel,
11:47but you and your father's family have.
11:49You have abandoned the Lord's commands
11:52and have followed the Baals.
11:551 Kings 18.18
11:57Then, Elijah issued a challenge.
12:01A challenge to settle the war
12:03for the soul of Israel
12:04once and for all.
12:07Summon the people from all over Israel
12:09to meet me on Mount Carmel
12:11and bring the 450 prophets of Baal
12:15and the 400 prophets of Asherah
12:18who eat at Jezebel's table.
12:22Ahab agreed.
12:23The stage was set.
12:26Mount Carmel rose high above the Mediterranean Sea.
12:30Thousands of Israelites gathered
12:31at the base of the mountain.
12:33On one side stood the 450 prophets of Baal,
12:37draped in the royal protection of Queen Jezebel.
12:40On the other side stood one man,
12:44Elijah.
12:45How long will you waver between two opinions?
12:47If the Lord is God, follow him.
12:50But if Baal, follow him.
12:51His voice echoed across the stones.
12:55But the people said nothing.
12:56They were paralyzed by fear.
12:59They were terrified of Jezebel's wrath.
13:01The silence was absolute.
13:04So Elijah laid out the rules of the contest.
13:07Two bulls, two altars of wood.
13:10But no one was allowed to light a fire.
13:13Then you call on the name of your God
13:16and I will call on the name of the Lord.
13:19The God who answers by fire.
13:22He is God.
13:241 Kings 18.24
13:26The people finally spoke.
13:29What you say is good.
13:30The prophets of Baal went first.
13:34They took their bull.
13:35They prepared their altar.
13:37From morning until noon,
13:38they cried out to their false god.
13:41O Baal, answer us!
13:43They danced around the altar.
13:46They shouted.
13:47But there was no response.
13:49No one answered.
13:50No one paid attention.
13:52At noon,
13:53Elijah began to mock them.
13:56Shout louder.
13:57Surely he is a god.
13:58Perhaps he is deep in thought.
14:00Or busy.
14:01Or traveling.
14:02Maybe he is sleeping
14:04and must be awakened.
14:06The prophets of Baal
14:08grew frantic.
14:09They slashed themselves
14:11with swords and spears,
14:12as was their custom,
14:14until their blood flowed.
14:16They prophesied wildly
14:18until the time
14:20of the evening sacrifice.
14:22But the sky remained
14:24completely silent.
14:26Their god was dead.
14:28Then Elijah stepped forward.
14:32He called the people closer.
14:34He took twelve stones,
14:36representing the twelve tribes of Israel,
14:39and rebuilt the ruined altar of the Lord.
14:42He dug a deep trench around the altar.
14:45He arranged the wood
14:46and the sacrifice.
14:48And then he did something unimaginable.
14:51He ordered them to fill
14:53four large jars with water
14:55and pour it over the sacrifice
14:57and the wood.
14:58He ordered them to do it
15:00a second time.
15:01Then a third time.
15:03Water soaked the altar.
15:05It ran down the stones.
15:07It completely filled the trench.
15:10It was humanly impossible
15:11for this wood to burn.
15:13Elijah stepped back.
15:15He did not dance.
15:16He did not scream.
15:18He did not cut himself.
15:19He simply bowed his head
15:21and prayed a quiet,
15:23powerful prayer.
15:24Lord, the God of Abraham,
15:27Isaac, and Israel,
15:28let it be known today
15:30that you are God in Israel
15:32and that I am your servant.
15:35Answer me, Lord, answer me,
15:37so these people will know
15:39that you, Lord, are God
15:41and that you are turning
15:42their hearts back again.
15:45Elijah finished speaking.
15:46And instantly,
15:48fire fell from heaven.
15:50It did not just burn
15:52the sacrifice.
15:53It consumed the wood.
15:55It consumed the stones.
15:57It consumed the soil.
15:58It licked up
15:59all the water
16:00in the trench.
16:01The blinding,
16:03terrifying holiness
16:04of the Almighty
16:05struck the mountain.
16:07When the Israelites saw it,
16:09they fell prostrate
16:10to the ground.
16:11They cried out
16:12in absolute terror
16:14and awe.
16:15The Lord,
16:16He is God.
16:18The Lord,
16:19He is God.
16:211 Kings 1839,
16:23the contest was over.
16:25The prophets of Baal
16:26were seized
16:27and slaughtered
16:28at the Kishan Valley.
16:29The sky grew black
16:31with clouds
16:32and the rain
16:33finally fell.
16:34God had won.
16:36King Ahab
16:38rode his chariot
16:39back to the palace
16:40in Jezreel
16:42through the pouring rain.
16:43When he arrived,
16:45he went straight
16:46to his wife.
16:47He told Jezebel
16:49everything.
16:50How the fire fell
16:51from heaven.
16:52How the people
16:53worshipped Yahweh.
16:54How all 450
16:56of her royal prophets
16:58had been executed
16:59by the sword.
17:00Most rulers
17:01would have been terrified.
17:03If fire falls
17:04from the sky
17:05and consumes
17:06a stone altar,
17:07a wise person
17:08repents.
17:09But Jezebel
17:11was not wise.
17:12Her heart
17:13was hardened
17:14beyond repair.
17:16She did not fear
17:17the God of Israel.
17:18Her pride
17:19was absolute.
17:21She immediately
17:22sent a messenger
17:23to Elijah
17:24with a chilling oath.
17:26May the gods
17:27deal with me,
17:28be it ever so severely.
17:30If by this time
17:31tomorrow
17:32I do not make
17:34your life
17:34like that
17:35of one of them.
17:36It was a death warrant.
17:37She was publicly
17:39declaring
17:39that she was
17:40stronger
17:41than the God
17:42who had just
17:42sent fire
17:43from heaven.
17:44And shockingly
17:45her intimidation
17:47worked.
17:48Elijah,
17:49the man
17:49who had just
17:50stood fearless
17:50against 450 prophets
17:53and called down fire
17:54fled
17:55for his life.
17:56He ran
17:57into the wilderness
17:58exhausted
17:59and terrified
18:00of the queen.
18:03Jezebel
18:03had lost
18:04her prophets
18:04but she had
18:06not lost
18:07her power.
18:08She had
18:09reasserted
18:09her dominance
18:10over the throne
18:11of Israel
18:12and she continued
18:14to rule
18:14with an iron
18:16wicked
18:17fist.
18:19Years passed.
18:21The tension
18:22between Ahab
18:23and the Lord
18:24remained
18:25but Ahab's
18:26weakness
18:26as a king
18:27was about
18:28to be fully exposed
18:29allowing Jezebel
18:31to commit
18:32one of the
18:32darkest crimes
18:33in scripture.
18:35Ahab had
18:36a winter palace
18:37in the city
18:38of Jezreel.
18:39Right beside
18:40his palace
18:41was a beautiful
18:42flourishing vineyard.
18:44It belonged
18:45to a man
18:46named Naboth.
18:48Ahab
18:49looked at the vineyard
18:50and decided
18:51he wanted it.
18:52He wanted
18:53to tear it up
18:54and turn it
18:55into a vegetable garden.
18:56He went
18:57to Naboth
18:58and offered
18:59to buy it
18:59or trade it
19:00for a better vineyard.
19:02but Naboth
19:03was a faithful
19:04Israelite.
19:05He respected
19:06the laws of God
19:07given to Moses.
19:09The law
19:10stated that
19:11ancestral land
19:12was an inheritance
19:13from God
19:14and could not
19:15be permanently
19:15sold
19:16to another tribe
19:17or king.
19:18The Lord
19:19forbid
19:20that I should
19:21give you
19:21the inheritance
19:22of my ancestors,
19:24Naboth replied.
19:251 Kings
19:2621.3
19:28Ahab
19:29went home.
19:29He did not
19:31act like a king.
19:32He acted
19:33like a spoiled child.
19:34He went
19:35to his bedroom,
19:36lay on his bed,
19:37turned his face
19:38to the wall
19:39and refused
19:40to eat.
19:43Jezebel
19:43walked into
19:44the room.
19:45What is wrong
19:46with you?
19:47Why are you
19:47so sullen?
19:48Why won't you eat?
19:49Naboth the Jezreelite
19:50refuses to sell me
19:51his vineyard.
19:52I offered
19:52to buy it.
19:53Jezebel
19:54looked at her husband
19:55with absolute
19:56contempt.
19:57She was raised
19:58in Tyre
19:59where a king
20:00took whatever
20:01he wanted
20:01by force.
20:03She despised
20:04the idea
20:05that a peasant
20:06could say no
20:07to a king
20:07because of
20:08a religious law.
20:10Is this how
20:10you act as king
20:11over Israel?
20:12Get up and eat.
20:13Cheer up.
20:14I'll get you
20:14the vineyard
20:14of Naboth
20:15the Jezreelite.
20:16Jezebel
20:17took Ahab's
20:18royal seal.
20:19She wrote
20:19letters in his name.
20:21She sent them
20:22to the elders
20:23and nobles
20:23who lived
20:24in Naboth's city.
20:26Her plan
20:26was incredibly wicked.
20:28because she used
20:29the very laws
20:30of God
20:31to commit murder.
20:33She ordered
20:34the elders
20:34to proclaim
20:35a day of fasting
20:36and seat Naboth
20:37in a prominent place.
20:39She ordered
20:40them to hire
20:41two scoundrels,
20:43false witnesses,
20:44to sit
20:45opposite him.
20:46According
20:47to the law
20:48of Moses,
20:49two witnesses
20:50were required
20:51to secure
20:51a death penalty.
20:53The scoundrels
20:54were instructed
20:55to testify publicly.
20:56You have cursed
20:58God
20:58and the king!
21:00The elders
21:01of the city,
21:02terrified
21:03of Jezebel's wrath,
21:04did exactly
21:05as they were told.
21:06The innocent man
21:08was dragged
21:09outside the city walls
21:10and they stoned him
21:11to death.
21:13They sent a message
21:15back to Jezebel.
21:16Naboth
21:17has been stoned
21:18and is dead.
21:20Jezebel walked back
21:21into Ahab's bedroom.
21:23She did not show
21:24an ounce of remorse.
21:26Get up
21:27and take possession
21:28of the vineyard,
21:29she said coldly.
21:30Naboth
21:31is no longer
21:32alive
21:33but dead.
21:35Ahab got up
21:36and went to claim
21:37the blood-stained land.
21:39Jezebel
21:39had shown
21:40her absolute
21:41dominion.
21:42She had corrupted
21:44the justice system
21:45of Israel.
21:46She had murdered
21:47an innocent man
21:48for a vegetable garden.
21:50She believed
21:51she had gotten
21:52away with it.
21:53She believed
21:54there were
21:55no consequences
21:56for a queen.
21:58She was
21:59completely wrong.
22:01As Ahab
22:02was walking
22:03through the vineyard
22:03of the man
22:04his wife
22:05had just murdered,
22:07God spoke
22:08to Elijah.
22:09Go down
22:10to meet
22:11Ahab
22:12king of Israel.
22:13He is now
22:14in Naboth's vineyard
22:16where he has gone
22:17to take possession
22:18of it.
22:18Say to him,
22:20This is what
22:21the Lord says.
22:22Have you not
22:23murdered a man
22:24and seized
22:25his property?
22:26Elijah appeared
22:27in the vineyard
22:28like a ghost.
22:29Ahab froze.
22:31So you have
22:32found me,
22:32my enemy!
22:33Ahab gasped.
22:34I have found you
22:35because you have
22:37sold yourself
22:38to do evil
22:38in the eyes
22:39of the Lord.
22:41Elijah delivered
22:42a terrifying,
22:43absolute prophecy
22:44of divine judgment
22:46over the house
22:47of Ahab.
22:48Disaster would
22:49fall upon
22:50his dynasty.
22:51Every male
22:53in his line
22:53would be wiped out
22:55and then
22:55Elijah delivered
22:57a specific,
22:58horrifying prophecy
22:59regarding the queen.
23:01And also
23:02concerning Jezebel,
23:03the Lord says
23:04dogs will devour
23:06Jezebel
23:06by the wall
23:07of Jezreel.
23:091 Kings 21-23
23:11It was the ultimate
23:13curse in the
23:14ancient world
23:15to die violently,
23:17to have no
23:18honorable burial,
23:19to be consumed
23:21by wild scavengers.
23:22When Ahab
23:24heard these words,
23:25he finally broke.
23:26He tore his clothes.
23:28He put on sackcloth
23:29and fasted.
23:30He walked around
23:32meekly.
23:32Because Ahab
23:34humbled himself,
23:35God delayed
23:36the destruction
23:36of his dynasty
23:37until the days
23:38of his son.
23:40But Jezebel
23:41did not repent.
23:42She did not
23:43tear her clothes.
23:45She did not
23:46care about the prophecy.
23:47She remained
23:48the hard,
23:49proud,
23:50unyielding queen.
23:53The wheels
23:53of God's justice
23:54sometimes turn slowly,
23:56but they grind
23:58exceedingly fine.
24:00Years passed.
24:01The prophecy
24:02hung in the air
24:03like a shadow,
24:04but nothing happened.
24:06Ahab
24:07eventually died
24:08in battle,
24:09struck by a
24:09random arrow.
24:11The dogs
24:11licked up his blood
24:12near the pool
24:13of Samaria,
24:15exactly as God
24:16had spoken.
24:17But Jezebel
24:18survived.
24:19She watched her son
24:20Ahaziah
24:21take the throne.
24:22When Ahaziah died,
24:24her other son,
24:25Joram,
24:26became king.
24:27Through it all,
24:28Jezebel
24:29remained untouchable.
24:31She held the title
24:32of Geberah,
24:34the queen mother.
24:35She lived in
24:36absolute luxury
24:37in the palace
24:38at Jezreel.
24:39She was older now,
24:41but she still
24:42worshipped Baal.
24:43She still wielded
24:44massive political power,
24:46and she still believed
24:48she had outlasted
24:49the judgment of God.
24:51Elijah was taken up
24:53to heaven
24:54in a whirlwind.
24:55A new prophet,
24:57Elisha,
24:58took his place.
24:59Decades had passed
25:00since the murder
25:01of Naboth.
25:02For an unbeliever,
25:04it looked like
25:05Jezebel had won.
25:06It looked like
25:07God had forgotten.
25:08But God
25:09never forgets,
25:11and the day
25:12of reckoning
25:12had finally arrived.
25:14Far away
25:15from the palace,
25:17Elisha called
25:18one of the prophets
25:18from his company.
25:20He handed him
25:21a small flask
25:22of olive oil.
25:23He gave him
25:25a deadly,
25:26secret mission.
25:28Go to Ramoth-Gilead,
25:30Elisha commanded.
25:31Find Jehu's son
25:33of Jehoshaphat.
25:34Take him
25:35into an inner room.
25:36Pour the oil
25:37on his head
25:38and say,
25:38This is what
25:39the Lord says.
25:40I anoint you
25:41king over Israel.
25:43Then open the door
25:44and run.
25:45Don't delay.
25:48The young prophet
25:49did exactly
25:50as he was told.
25:51He found Jehu,
25:53a high-ranking,
25:54fierce military commander
25:55in Israel's army.
25:57He pulled him
25:57into a private room.
25:59He poured
26:00the holy oil
26:01over his head.
26:02And he delivered
26:03the horrific,
26:05long-awaited command
26:06of God.
26:07You are to destroy
26:09the house of Ahab,
26:10your master,
26:11and I will avenge
26:13the blood
26:13of my servants,
26:14the prophets.
26:15As for Jezebel,
26:17dogs will devour her
26:18on the plot of ground
26:20at Jezreel,
26:21and no one
26:22will bury her.
26:242 Kings 9, 7-10
26:27The prophet opened
26:28the door and ran.
26:29When Jehu told
26:30his fellow officers
26:31what had happened,
26:32they didn't hesitate.
26:33They blew the trumpets.
26:35They shouted,
26:36Jehu is king!
26:38Jehu was a man
26:39of absolute violent action.
26:41He did not wait.
26:43He mounted his chariot
26:45and ordered his men
26:46to ride for Jezreel.
26:48King Joram,
26:49Jezebel's son,
26:50was recovering
26:51from battle wounds
26:52in the palace.
26:53A watchman
26:54on the tower of Jezreel
26:56saw a massive cloud
26:57of dust
26:58rising on the horizon.
27:00A troop was approaching.
27:02Joram sent a horseman
27:04to ask if they came in peace.
27:06Jehu forced the horseman
27:08to fall in behind him.
27:09He sent a second horseman.
27:12Jehu captured him too.
27:14The watchman called out
27:15to the king,
27:16The driving is like that
27:18of Jehu's son of Nimshi.
27:20He drives like a maniac.
27:23King Joram
27:24finally ordered
27:25his own chariot
27:26and rode out
27:27to meet Jehu.
27:28By divine design,
27:30they met
27:30at the exact plot of ground
27:32that had belonged
27:33to Naboth,
27:34the Jezreelite.
27:35Have you come in peace,
27:37Jehu?
27:37Joram asked.
27:38How can there be peace?
27:40Jehu replied.
27:42As long as all
27:42the idolatry
27:43and witchcraft
27:44of your mother,
27:45Jezebel,
27:46abound.
27:48Joram realized
27:49the treason.
27:50He turned his chariot
27:52to flee.
27:53But Jehu drew his bow
27:54with all his strength.
27:57The arrow
27:57pierced Joram's back
27:59and went straight
28:00through his heart.
28:01He slumped down
28:02in his chariot,
28:04dead.
28:06Jehu ordered his men
28:08to throw the body
28:09into the field
28:10of Naboth.
28:12The blood debt
28:13of the son
28:13was paid.
28:14Now, Jehu turned
28:17his chariot
28:18toward the palace.
28:19It was time
28:20for the queen.
28:22Inside the palace walls,
28:24Jezebel heard the news.
28:26Her son was dead.
28:28The army had rebelled.
28:30Jehu was coming for her.
28:32She was totally defenseless.
28:34The guards had fled.
28:36The power she had clung to
28:38for decades
28:39had evaporated
28:40in an instant.
28:40Most people would panic.
28:43Most people would run
28:44or hide
28:45or beg for mercy.
28:47But Jezebel
28:48was a queen of Tyre
28:49to the bitter end.
28:51Her pride
28:52was impenetrable.
28:53She refused to die
28:55looking like a victim.
28:57Scripture records
28:58her final
28:59chilling actions.
29:01She put on eye makeup,
29:02arranged her hair,
29:03and looked out of a window.
29:05She adorned herself.
29:07She painted her face.
29:08She prepared to meet
29:10her executioner
29:11looking like royalty.
29:13It was a final act
29:14of arrogance.
29:15A final attempt
29:16at intimidation.
29:18She stood at the high window
29:20overlooking the courtyard.
29:22Jehu's chariot
29:23roared through
29:24the palace gates.
29:25The horses stamped
29:26the stone pavement.
29:28Jezebel looked down
29:29at him.
29:30She did not ask
29:31for peace.
29:32She spat
29:33a royal insult.
29:34Have you come in peace,
29:36you Zimri?
29:37You murderer
29:38of your master?
29:41Zimri was a former
29:42traitor in Israel's history
29:44who had assassinated
29:45a king
29:45only to die
29:47a few days later.
29:49Jezebel was mocking
29:50Jehu.
29:51She was telling him
29:52his victory
29:53would not last.
29:55Jehu did not
29:56argue with her.
29:57He did not
29:58answer her insult.
30:00He stopped
30:01his chariot.
30:02He looked up
30:03at the high window,
30:03and he shouted
30:05a single question
30:06to the palace staff
30:08standing behind her.
30:09Who is on my side?
30:11Who?
30:13For decades,
30:15the palace staff
30:15had lived in sheer terror
30:17of the wicked queen.
30:18They had served her.
30:20They had bowed to her.
30:22But earthly fear
30:23only lasts
30:24as long
30:25as earthly power.
30:27Two or three eunuchs
30:28looked out
30:29from the window
30:29behind her.
30:31Jehu
30:31gave the brutal command.
30:33Throw her down!
30:35The eunuchs
30:36did not hesitate.
30:38The woman
30:38who had slaughtered
30:39the prophets,
30:40the woman
30:41who had corrupted
30:42a nation,
30:43the woman
30:43who had murdered
30:44Naboth
30:45for a piece of land,
30:47was violently shoved
30:48from the high window.
30:50She plummeted
30:51through the air.
30:52She smashed
30:53into the stone pavement
30:55of the courtyard below.
30:56Her blood
30:57splattered violently
30:59against the palace wall
31:00and on the horses.
31:02Jehu
31:03did not flinch.
31:04He drove
31:05his heavy chariot forward.
31:08The queen
31:09was dead.
31:11Jehu
31:12walked into the palace.
31:13He sat down
31:14at the table.
31:15He ate
31:16and drank,
31:17completely unbothered
31:19by the violent coup.
31:21After he had finished
31:22his meal,
31:23he gave an order
31:24to his men.
31:25Take care
31:26of that cursed woman
31:28and bury her,
31:29for she was
31:30a king's daughter.
31:32Second Kings,
31:34934.
31:36Despite her wickedness,
31:38she possessed
31:39royal blood.
31:40Jehu
31:41was willing
31:42to give her
31:42a proper burial.
31:44The soldiers
31:45walked back out
31:46into the courtyard
31:47to collect
31:48the body
31:48of the queen.
31:49But when they arrived
31:51at the spot
31:51where she fell,
31:52the courtyard
31:54was swarming
31:54with wild stray dogs.
31:56The dogs
31:58had consumed her.
31:59All they found
32:00remaining
32:01on the blood-stained
32:02pavement
32:03was her skull,
32:04her feet
32:05and her hands.
32:07The soldiers
32:08returned to the palace,
32:10deeply disturbed.
32:11They stood
32:12before King Jehu
32:13and reported
32:14what they had found.
32:15Jehu's eyes
32:16widened.
32:17He realized
32:18the terrifying
32:19magnitude
32:20of what had just
32:21happened.
32:22He looked at his men
32:23and the fear
32:25of the Almighty
32:26fell over the room.
32:28This is the word
32:29of the Lord
32:30that he spoke
32:31through his servant
32:32Elijah the Tishbite.
32:35On the plot
32:36of ground
32:36at Jezreel,
32:37dogs will devour
32:39Jezebel's flesh.
32:41Jezebel's body
32:42will be like dung
32:43on the ground
32:44in the plot
32:45at Jezreel
32:46so that no one
32:47will be able
32:48to say,
32:49This is Jezebel.
32:512 Kings 9.36-37
32:55The prophecy
32:56was fulfilled
32:57to the exact letter.
32:59God had wiped
33:00her existence
33:01from the face
33:02of the earth.
33:02There would be
33:03no tomb.
33:04There would be
33:05no monument.
33:06There would be
33:07no memory
33:08of her glory.
33:09Only the terrifying
33:11truth
33:11of divine justice.
33:15The story
33:16of Jezebel
33:17is one of the
33:18darkest chapters
33:19in all of Scripture.
33:21but it carries
33:22a brilliant,
33:22undeniable truth
33:24for every generation.
33:26Earthly power
33:27is an illusion.
33:30Jezebel had wealth.
33:31She had armies.
33:33She had political alliances.
33:35She had the power
33:36to rewrite laws
33:38and execute
33:39the innocent.
33:40For decades,
33:41it looked like
33:42she had won.
33:43It looked like
33:44the evil in the world
33:45was stronger
33:46than the truth
33:47of God.
33:48But God's timeline
33:49is not
33:50our timeline.
33:52We live in a world
33:53where wicked people
33:55often seem to prosper,
33:57where truth
33:58is silenced,
33:59where compromise
34:00is celebrated,
34:02and where holding
34:03onto faith
34:03can make you
34:04a target.
34:06Sometimes,
34:07like the prophet
34:08Obadiah,
34:09you have to hide
34:10in the caves.
34:12Sometimes,
34:13like Elijah,
34:14you have to stand
34:15alone on the mountain.
34:16But the promise
34:17of Scripture
34:17is absolute.
34:19Galatians 6-7
34:20warns us,
34:21Do not be deceived.
34:23God cannot be mocked.
34:26A man reaps
34:27what he sows.
34:28Jezebel mocked God.
34:30She slaughtered
34:31his servants.
34:32She painted her face
34:33and believed
34:34her pride
34:35would protect her.
34:36But no crown,
34:37no castle,
34:38and no amount
34:39of wealth
34:40can stop
34:41the justice
34:42of the Almighty.
34:42Her story
34:44challenges us
34:45to examine
34:46our own lives.
34:48Are we compromising
34:49our faith
34:49to fit into a culture
34:51that rejects God?
34:52Are we intimidated
34:53by the loud,
34:54proud voices
34:55of the world?
34:56Or are we willing
34:57to stand
34:58like Elijah?
35:00Uncompromising,
35:01fearless,
35:03anchored completely
35:04in the truth of God.
35:05The world
35:06will always have
35:07its Jezebels,
35:08systems of power
35:10that try to silence
35:11the word of God.
35:11But remember
35:13the fire
35:13on Mount Carmel.
35:15Remember the fulfillment
35:16of the prophecy.
35:17God is on the throne.
35:20His word
35:21will outlast
35:21every empire
35:22and his justice
35:24will never fail.
35:25If this story
35:27challenged your faith,
35:28if it reminded you

35:53that the God of Elijah
35:54is the exact same God
35:57we serve today.
35:59the Lord
35:59by.
36:00And I
36:00.
