00:35:09Arise. Take your wife and your two daughters who are with you.

00:35:13Leave now, or you will perish when the punishment falls upon the city.

00:35:16But, unbelievably, Lot hesitated.

00:35:20The sacred text itself is direct and painful.

00:35:25He lingered.

00:35:27Perhaps it was the fear of losing everything he knew, or the shock still pulsating from the horrors of the

00:35:34previous night.

00:35:35Perhaps, in some corner of his heart, there was still an attachment to the comfortable life he had built in

00:35:42Sodom.

00:35:43His house, his riches, the appearance of security that was now crumbling.

00:35:49While the city slept under the shadow of judgment, Lot remained trapped between faith and attachment, between obedience and nostalgia.

00:36:00It was then that divine mercy intervened.

00:36:03The angels, perceiving the danger of that deadly indecision, acted with firmness and compassion.

00:36:12Not because of Lot's merit, but out of love for the covenant made with Abraham, the friend of God.

00:36:20Without waiting for another word, the celestial messengers extended their hands.

00:36:26A powerful, irresistible touch.

00:36:29They seized Lot, his wife, and his two daughters, and pulled them out with supernatural force.

00:36:36As the first pale light of dawn tinged the sky with grey and gold, they were led beyond the walls

00:36:45of Sodom.

00:36:45Behind them, the city still slept, oblivious to the approaching sentence.

00:36:52It was the final moment before the wrath, the silent breath between mercy and fire.

00:37:01When they were already beyond the walls, now just dark silhouettes against the pale dawn sky, the angels stopped.

00:37:10The desert wind blew cold, carrying an unsettling silence.

00:37:16Then one of them turned to Lot and raised his voice, firm and unappealable, with the authority of one who

00:37:24speaks in the name of God himself.

00:37:27Flee for your life. Do not look back under any circumstances. Do not stop anywhere on the plain.

00:37:34Flee to the mountains. Run without delay, lest you be destroyed along with the city.

00:37:43The words cut through the air like blades. It was a commandment, not advice. A line drawn between life and

00:37:52death.

00:37:53The angels' tone allowed no hesitation. Behind them, the breeze seemed to carry the premonition of fire.

00:37:59But the human heart is fragile in the face of the unknown.

00:38:04Lot, seized by panic and confusion, felt fear overpower faith.

00:38:10The mountains in the distance, black, silent, inhospitable, seemed like a new kind of condemnation.

00:38:18He thought of the wild beasts, the cold, the solitude.

00:38:23Everything seemed more terrible to him than the very city he had left behind.

00:38:29And then, with a trembling voice, he pleaded,

00:38:33Ah, no, my lord, I beg you.

00:38:37Behold, your servant has found favor in your sight.

00:38:42But I fear that if I flee to the mountains, disaster will overtake me and I will die.

00:38:48Look, that little town there, so close, Tay. Let me take refuge there.

00:38:53It is only a little place. Allow me to flee there, and so my life will be spared.

00:39:02For a moment, the angel remained silent, gazing at him with an inscrutable expression.

00:39:08And then, in a gesture that combined divine patience and compassion for human limitations, he replied,

00:39:19Very well, I grant you that request as well.

00:39:23I will not destroy the city you speak of.

00:39:26But hurry, run away quickly, for I can do nothing until you get there safely.

00:39:33Lot looks towards that small town, an almost imperceptible dot amidst the shadows of the plain.

00:39:41Its name would be remembered.

00:39:44Zoar, which in Hebrew means small or insignificant.

00:39:49But on that dawn that separated mercy from judgment, Zoar would become the refuge of life.

00:39:56The shelter allowed by grace.

00:39:59And so, as the horizon began to be tinged with red, Lot and his family ran without looking back.

00:40:07For the dawn would bring with it the fire from heaven.

00:40:11As Lot, his wife, and his daughters ran with their last strength towards the small town of Zoar, the world

00:40:19behind them seemed to hold its breath.

00:40:22The morning wind whistled among the stones, and the sun began to rise slowly, tinging the horizon with gold and

00:40:30blood.

00:40:31Each step was a struggle between despair and hope, between the distant sound of ruin and the echo of salvation.

00:40:41And then, at the exact moment that Lot crossed the boundaries of Zoar, and the sun rose fully over the

00:40:49face of the earth, judgment was unleashed.

00:40:52The Lord himself, the righteous judge of all the earth, rained down from heaven upon Sodom and Gomorrah, and upon

00:41:02all the plain, a rain of burning sulfur and consuming fire.

00:41:08It was not ordinary fire, it was the fire of holiness confronting sin, the fire that purifies and destroys, that

00:41:19consumes even the roots of iniquity.

00:41:22The fertile plain, once desired by Lot, was transformed into a sea of flames.

00:41:29The ground trembled, the walls collapsed, the air filled with screams and smoke.

00:41:38God destroyed those wicked cities and all the surrounding valley, erasing the last trace of their arrogance and corruption.

00:41:48No inhabitants survived, neither children, nor elders, nor animals.

00:41:54The vegetation withered and disappeared under the fiery storm.

00:42:00Green was replaced by grey, life by ruin.

00:42:04It was total, absolute and cataclysmic destruction, a final judgment that would echo through the centuries as a warning and

00:42:15a symbol.

00:42:15What man had called prosperity, God revealed as decay.

00:42:21What Sodom celebrated as freedom, heaven declared as an offense.

00:42:27And the fire fell, until nothing remained but silence and ashes.

00:42:34But then, something tragic happened.

00:42:38Lot's wife, unable to break with the past, committed the act that sealed her fate.

00:42:45She disobeyed the explicit order of the angels and looked back.

00:43:08Perhaps a last emotional tie to the condemned world that still pulsed in flames.

00:43:16Whatever the reason, that look was fatal.

00:43:20In an instant, judgment reached her.

00:43:23Her body hardened, her skin became crystalline, and there, in the middle of the path between grace and judgment, she

00:43:33was transformed into a pillar of salt.

00:43:36A silent, eternal, and terrible monument, erected as a testament to the price of disobedience and the danger of loving

00:43:46what God has already declared condemned.

00:43:49And so, under the still burning sky, Lot's wife became the immutable symbol of spiritual hesitation, the gaze that could

00:44:01not choose between the past and salvation.

00:44:05The following morning, as the first breath of dawn touched the horizon, and the night's chill began to recede, Abraham

00:44:13rose.

00:44:14His eyes still bore the shadow of the previous night, the weight of the divine revelation, the echo of the

00:44:22words he had exchanged with the Almighty.

00:44:25He walked silently along the slopes of Hebron, quickening his pace toward the place where he had stood before the

00:44:32Lord,

00:44:32that ground which hours before had been the scene of one of the most audacious conversations between man and the

00:44:39divine.

00:44:41There, at the very spot where he had interceded for the cities of the plain, Abraham looked up.

00:44:48The morning wind blew dry, carrying a distant smell of ash and sulfur.

00:44:53The valley that had once shone like a garden, green and fertile, now lay in ruins.

00:44:59He saw the horizon covered by a thick curtain of smoke that rose in black spirals, ascending to the sky

00:45:07like the breath of a burning furnace.

00:45:10Sodom and Gomorrah, the cities that had mocked heaven, no longer existed.

00:45:16The judgment was complete, the divine sentence carried out without mercy.

00:45:23Abraham remained motionless, his heart divided between horror and reverence.

00:45:29Each puff of smoke seemed to carry with it the voices of the past, the laughter, the songs, the arrogance

00:45:36of a civilization that considered itself untouchable.

00:45:40Now, all was silence.

00:45:44The patriarch then understood what the dawn revealed to him.

00:45:49Not even ten righteous people had been found.

00:45:53The price of iniquity had been paid in full.

00:45:57And yet, amidst that apocalyptic vision, a spark of consolation burned in his heart.

00:46:03For the God who judges with justice also remembers with mercy.

00:46:09The scriptures say, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, he remembered Abraham.

00:46:16He did not forget the prayer of his servant, nor the covenant he had sealed with him under the stars.

00:46:22For the sake of Abraham's faithfulness, God extended his grace to the ruined valley and rescued Lot from the midst

00:46:31of the destruction.

00:46:32Not because of his own merit, but out of pure mercy.

00:46:37Lot's salvation was an echo of the promise.

00:46:40A living proof that divine favor reaches even those who stumble when there is a faithful intercessor before God.

00:46:49Thus, Abraham watched the smoke rise and understood in silence that the Lord's justice is perfect, terrible, and compassionate at

00:47:00the same time.

00:47:02And among the ashes of that morning, he saw not only the end of Sodom,

00:47:07but the beginning of a new story that would yet be born from the mountains through Lot's descendants.

00:47:16Meanwhile, Lot, although physically safe within the modest walls of Zoar, found no rest.

00:47:24The city that had sheltered him seemed too small to contain his fears.

00:47:29The memories of the fire still burned within him, and every gust of wind seemed to bring the distant echo

00:47:36of destruction.

00:47:38Even safe, Lot lived like a tormented man.

00:47:43Fear dominated him.

00:47:45Fear that Zoar, being so close to the cursed cities, would also be reached by the same judgment.

00:47:52Fear of the suspicious gaze of the inhabitants, who might see him as a man marked by divine wrath.

00:47:59And above all, fear of himself, of the guilt, the shame, the weight of having lost everything.

00:48:10Whatever the reason, terror was stronger than reason.

00:49:33An unthinkable plan, born of fear, of the moral distortion inherited from Sodom, and of the complete loss of hope.

00:49:44Faith had been extinguished like a lamp without oil, and in the void that remained, reason twisted into madness.

00:49:53Lot's daughters, looking at their sleeping and exhausted father, spoke to each other in low voices, like those who plan

00:50:01the unspeakable.

00:50:04Our father is old, and look around, there is no man on earth who can join us, as is the

00:50:10custom everywhere.

00:50:11Our lineage will die with us, and our family name will disappear from the earth.

00:50:19There is only us now, and our father.

00:50:27Then we need to find a way to preserve our family name.

00:50:31We cannot let everything disappear with him.

00:50:35The decision was made, a choice born not of malice, but of despair and spiritual blindness.

00:50:43And on that silent night, under the same sky that had witnessed the judgment of Sodom, sin sowed its new

00:50:52roots in the mountains of Zoar.

00:50:55And so, in the silent darkness of the cave, Lot's daughters carried out the plan they had conceived.

00:51:03On two consecutive nights, they offered their father wine, until he completely lost consciousness.

00:51:10Each night, one of them entered his chambers, first the older, then the younger, and lay with him.

00:51:18While the old patriarch, intoxicated and oblivious, did not realize what was happening.

00:51:25Neither when they lay down, nor when they rose up, did Lot know what had been done.

00:51:31The next morning the sun rose over a heavy silence.

00:51:34Shame hung invisibly among those rocks, as if the very air bore witness to what had occurred.

00:51:42Both daughters became pregnant by their own father, the fruit of an act born not of desire, but of despair,

00:51:50moral distortion, and a complete lack of faith that the same God who had spared them could also provide a

00:51:57holy future.

00:51:59From the older daughter was born a son, whom she named Moab, from the father.

00:52:05He became the patriarch of the Moabite nation.

00:52:08From the younger was born Ben-Ami, son of my people, the ancestor of the Ammonites.

00:52:16Two entire nations emerged from that dark act, peoples who throughout the centuries would have a complex and often hostile

00:52:25relationship with Israel, the people of the promise.

00:52:29Thus, from the ashes of Sodom and the shadows of the cave, new stories sprouted, not of glory, but of

00:52:37remembrance.

00:52:39Stories that would carry the bitter echo of human choices and the divine mercy that nevertheless persists.

00:52:46The consequences of sin and compromise with the world, even among those who have been touched by grace, spread like

00:52:55ripples on a lake, affecting generations, altering destinies.

00:53:01The error of a single moment can reverberate through the centuries.

00:53:07And the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, preserved in the pages of scripture, continues to echo like a moral thunderclap

00:53:15in the conscience of humanity.

00:53:18It confronts us, warns us, and reveals the heart of the eternal God.

00:53:25First, it shows the absolute holiness of God, His intolerance of stubborn sin, His justice that cannot be corrupted, and

00:53:36the fact that judgment, though often delayed by mercy, is certain and perfectly just.

00:53:43But at the same time, the narrative reveals something equally magnificent, the infinite depth of divine grace and compassion.

00:53:53Even in the face of the most extreme corruption, the Lord hears the prayer of a righteous man.

00:54:00We see Abraham standing alone, interceding before the Almighty, and we discover that God's mercy is moved by love, remembrance,

00:54:10and covenant.

00:54:12That the same God who destroys evil with fire also rescues lives with tenderness, because His justice is holy, but

00:54:22His grace is eternal.

00:54:25We contemplate in this sacred narrative, God's impressive patience in dialoguing with Abraham, His loving willingness to negotiate with man,

00:54:35and His declared desire to spare a multitude of guilty people, if only ten righteous people could be found among

00:54:43them.

00:54:44It is a sublime portrait of divine mercy in action, a God who does not rush to destroy, but who

00:54:52gives time for repentance, who listens, who responds, who allows Himself to be moved by the plea of a faithful

00:55:00servant.

00:55:02And when judgment finally became inevitable, His hand still reached out to save.

00:55:08We see His active and personal grace in delivering Lot and his family from the approaching fire, even when Lot

00:55:17hesitated, paralyzed between faith and fear, needing to be literally dragged to safety by the angels.

00:55:25But this story also resonates as a piercing warning, an uncomfortable mirror of human nature.

00:55:33It reveals the deadly danger of compromising with the world and absorbing its corrupted values.

00:55:41Lot chose the valley for its beauty and promise of easy prosperity.

00:55:47But his decision to live near and then within, the wickedness ultimately stained his soul and that of his family.

00:55:57Sin, when tolerated, does not remain at a distance.

00:56:03It infiltrates, settles in, and slowly devours everything.

00:56:08The moral corruption of Sodom contaminated Lot to the point that he almost perished with the city he once desired.

00:56:17The result was devastating.

00:56:19Loss, shame, and a legacy marked by tragedy.

00:56:26Lot's wife, petrified the moment she looked back, remains to this day an eternal symbol of spiritual hesitation.

00:56:34Of a soul divided between obedience and attachment, between God and the world.

00:56:43Her solitary figure, hardened into salt in the middle of the plain, silently cries out to all centuries,

00:56:52Whoever loves the world loses their life.

00:56:56Whoever obeys finds salvation.

00:57:00It is no coincidence that the apostles and Christ himself turned their eyes to Sodom and Gomorrah as a solemn

00:57:09and prophetic example.

00:57:11The apostle Peter recalls that God condemned those cities to destruction, reducing them to ashes,

00:57:19to serve as an example to those who would choose the path of wickedness.

00:57:24But in the same passage, he emphasizes that the Lord rescued the righteous Lot,

00:57:31distressed by the licentious conduct of the wicked.

00:57:352 Peter 2.6-7

00:57:38Thus showing the two inseparable sides of divine action, the judgment that purifies and the salvation that redeems.

00:57:49The apostle Jude reinforces this truth by declaring that those cities serve as an eternal warning,

00:57:58suffering the penalty of eternal fire.

00:58:01Jude 1.7

00:58:03And the Lord Jesus himself, in his supreme authority, warned that on the day of judgment,

00:58:10it will be more tolerable for Sodom than for those who reject the message of salvation.

00:58:17Matthew 10.15

00:58:20Thus, the smoke of Sodom continues to rise not only in history, but in the consciousness of humanity,

00:58:28mercy, reminding us that the same God who judges with justice is also the one who saves with infinite mercy.

00:58:39Furthermore, the Lord Jesus himself, when speaking about the signs of the end and his second coming,

00:58:47left a short but devastatingly powerful reminder.

00:58:52Remember Lot's wife.

00:58:56These four words echo through the centuries like spiritual thunder, a direct warning against attachment to the things of this

00:59:07world,

00:59:08to possessions, pleasures, and illusions that bind us when the decisive moment approaches.

00:59:16It is an urgent call not to look back, not to hesitate between the past and the eternal future,

00:59:25not to allow the heart to turn to what God has already judged and condemned.

00:59:33Therefore, the story of Sodom and Gomorrah was not preserved in the pages of Scripture merely to shock us with

00:59:42its violence or awaken fear with its destruction.

00:59:46Its purpose is much deeper.

00:59:49It is a mirror.

00:59:51It is a mirror that reflects our own generation, a call to conscience and repentance.

00:59:57It reminds us of the gravity of sin and the unchanging holiness of God.

01:00:04It reminds us that the same fire that consumes evil also purifies what is righteous,

01:00:13and that the time of divine patience has an established limit.

01:00:18This sacred narrative invites us to a response.

01:00:23To turn with a broken heart to the Lord, to seek refuge in His mercy before the day of judgment

01:00:30comes.

01:00:31It calls us to abandon the illusion of earthly comfort, and to run, as Lot was called to run,

01:00:39to the only true refuge, the living God, whose grace is a safe haven against all condemnation.

01:00:49We are challenged to live like Abraham, separated from the world but interceding for it.

01:00:58Pilgrims in a corrupted land, but firm in the hope of eternal promises.

01:01:05Fleeing from the evil that surrounds us, and above all, from the evil that still dwells within us.

01:01:13Not looking back with longing for sin, but looking upwards where our Redeemer is.

01:01:20For everything in this world, power, beauty, wealth, glory, is destined to pass away.

01:01:31But the grace and mercy of God, revealed and consummated in the person and work of Jesus Christ, remain forever.

01:01:42He is the true refuge, the deliverer from the coming judgment, the Savior who extends His hand before the fire

01:01:52falls.

01:01:54Through Him, we are called not only to escape destruction, but to inherit eternal life, incorruptible, glorious, and full of

01:02:06the presence of God.
