00:13more than 150 million Brazilians are called to the polls to cast their votes on the general
00:19elections of next Sunday October 4th from Rio de Janeiro our correspondent Brian Muir has all
00:26the latest informations in these crucial hours for Venice for Brazil hi Alejandra how are you well
00:36we're as you mentioned we're only five days off from the elections and although it's a pretty
00:42tight race some people are talking about possible first round victories for either Lula or Flavio
00:49Bolsonaro through configurations of valid votes versus declared votes and the difference between
00:57casting a white ballot and not voting it's a complex process it looks like it's going to the
01:04second round most people are saying that but a couple people including Lula himself President
01:09Lula has announced that he thinks he'll be able to pull it off in the first round regardless one of
01:15the issues that the candidates and their supporters are talking and debating during this short campaign
01:22season is the economy and both candidates represent really different viewpoints on this issue the Flavio
01:31Bolsonaro campaign basically approaches economic development like a carbon copy of the Trump
01:38administration it's a lot of language about individual entrepreneurialism about assistance for
01:45small businessmen assistance for entrepreneurs and the and and not much regulation on big business and not much government stimulus
01:57for economic development whereas the Lula camp supports a kind of heterodox macroeconomic policy in which they're actively working to
02:06re-industrialize Brazil to bring more factories to the country through using government economic stimulus package and they focus more
02:15on the collective the economy of the collective instead of focus on the on the individual as the Bolsonaro campaign
02:22does but the main difference is that many critics believe that Flavio Bolsonaro if elected will transform Brazil into a
02:33kind of economic protectorate of the United States he's also
02:36already invited Donald Trump's team to help the transition if he's elected and he's also made a deal apparently his
02:45campaign has made a deal with the rock rich institute in which he's agreeing that he will give monopolistic rights
02:54to Brazil's rare earth minerals to American companies if he's elected now Brazil has the second largest reserves of rare
03:01earth minerals in the world so that's an important issue
03:05for other countries around the world that have their eye on those minerals as well and as I said five
03:09days away from from the first round election it's not just Lula and Bolsonaro running there's also 513 spots in
03:18Congress up for grabs all of the 27 governorships and over a thousand state lawmakers will be elected as well
03:25this Sunday
03:28Thank you thank you thank you thank you very much for your insights for all of the latest informations as
03:34we as you were saying just five days away from Brazil general elections
