00:0010 out of 10 times when a recipe calls for softened butter,
00:02I forgot to soften it.
00:04Let me show you my four favorite ways
00:05to soften butter fast, hard as a brick.
00:07Number one, grate it.
00:08Take your cold butter,
00:09you can even take this from the freezer.
00:11Grab your box grater and grate away.
00:12Comes out in little pieces
00:14and they are soft almost immediately.
00:16You can grate this right into your dry ingredients
00:18and it's perfect for when a recipe calls
00:20to cut in the butter, soft as can be.
00:22Number two, the hot cup.
00:24Simply take a tall cup that's tall enough
00:26to go over the stick of butter,
00:27pour boiling water in it,
00:28let it make the cup hot and pour the water out.
00:31Place your hot cup over it and let it stand.
00:33This way may take several more minutes,
00:35but it's the most foolproof.
00:36Number three, definitely the fastest way in the microwave.
00:39The key is you have to turn your microwave
00:40to the defrost setting
00:42and it only takes about 10 to 20 seconds.
00:44Every microwave is different,
00:45so you might have to play around with it,
00:46but for me, 20 seconds and look at this.
00:49No more melty butter in the microwave.
00:51Finally, pound it.
00:52Just take your cold butter,
00:53place it between a couple of sheets of parchment paper
00:55and pound away with your rolling pin until it's soft.
00:58Soft and butter.
00:59And that, my friends,
01:00is how to have your butter recipe ready.
