05:00As a reminder, the ship's objectives for a nominal mission today include that orbit insertion burn,
05:06payload deploy of those 26 Operational Starlink satellites,
05:10followed by a long coast with six orbits of the Earth, a de-orbit,
05:15and then followed by re-entry, descent, and landing.
05:21Yeah, we can see ship there still accelerating with six out of six engines under power.
05:28That is great to see. Just crossed over 10,000 kilometers per hour.
05:34Just take a second to realize that we're already at 10,000 kilometers per hour.
05:38And we just heard that call out. That ship is on nominal trajectory.
05:41So that's great news. Things are going pretty well so far.
05:46Yep, and on the left side of the screen there, you can see booster.
05:49Its altitude is starting to come down, so we've hit our max altitude and coming back in.
05:55And although we're not doing a tower catch today, we are going to simulate the same way that we would.
06:02So we'll do a 13-engine landing burn to slow down.
06:06We'll then transition to five, and then transition down to three for the final hover.
06:19Ship still with all six engines lit. Getting great footage here.
06:24Thank you, Starlink. I can see Earth below us.
06:36Raptor chamber pressure is nominal.
06:40Great call out there here in Raptor chamber pressure is nominal.
06:43You can see the plume on all six engines still lighting there.
06:48Man, Methylox burns beautiful purple. That looks great.
06:56So we are just about ten seconds away from landing burn start.
07:01So that's where we'll first ignite the center 13 engines, bring that down to five, and then finally down to
07:07three.
07:12Landing burn start up.
07:20There's views from the booster.
07:24Down to five.
07:35And confirmed landing.
07:38That looked like a pretty soft splashdown.
07:41I don't know if you guys can all hear everyone going crazy behind us.
07:51All right, nice job by the booster there.
07:54Looking like we made a soft splashdown right off the coast of Starbase.
07:58And ship is still going strong here.
08:01Dan, how's it looking upstairs?
08:04Hey, Jake, so you can see by our little telemetry in the bottom right, we just had engine six, one
08:10of the RVACs, shut down early.
08:13We were planning on that one going for probably another 30 seconds.
08:16So similar to flight 12 kind of scenario here where we had an RVAC out on the first flight of
08:25V3.
08:26So we do have engine out capabilities, so the ship adjusts for this.
08:30So we're still running on five out of the six.
08:33And we should be getting to ship engine cutoff in about the next ten seconds.
08:49All right, actually, now that we are engine out, we will run a little bit longer.
09:05All right, so there is Starship engine cutoff.
09:14All right, so we are in space.
09:17Now comes the next step.
09:19So we will listen in for a couple of minutes.
09:24So that initial burn, we did have an engine go out on the way up hills, so the team obviously
09:29is going to take a quick look at that.
09:31We've said it repeatedly.
09:32We're only going to commit to orbit if everything is looking really healthy.
09:36And an engine out on ascent, even though you're not going to use it for the rest of time on
09:41orbit, could drive us to not commit.
09:43So we are going to stand by for just a moment here and listen in.
09:49I'm going to toss it down to Amanda and Jake's reaction so far.
09:52It was great seeing the booster get to the water.
09:54And we'll be back in a moment with some ship updates.
09:59Yeah, thanks, Dan.
10:01Definitely an exciting flight for booster so far.
10:03Lots of things have happened.
10:05And like you said, we'll be looking forward to hearing the news on Path Forward for ship today.
10:11Yep, and just to give a quick recap in case you're joining us, a lot has already happened here in
10:16just under 10 minutes.
10:19So we saw booster liftoff right when we wanted it to with 33 out of 33 engines.
10:26We got straight through the T-60 second hold as planned.
10:30Looks like we may have lost one engine along the way, but that's okay.
10:33We've got 33 of them, so we can lose a couple along the way and still have a nominal booster
10:39ascent.
10:40We then saw a hot stage separation with all six engines lighting on the ship.
10:45Booster doing its flip, directionally correct, just as we did last time,
10:50and doing a full boost back burn coming back towards the coast of Starbase.
10:56Ship kept going, kept burning on all six engines for quite some time
11:00while booster came down and executed a tower-like landing burn
11:05and what looked like a fairly soft splashdown off the coast of Starbase.
11:11And we did note ship did lose one of the engines, one of its RVACs it looked like, on the
11:17way uphill.
11:18So we need to check in and see what exactly that means for the rest of the mission here.
11:26So let's see.
11:27Dan, do you have any words on what next steps are looking like?
11:39All right.
11:40Sorry for the delay, guys.
11:41I was just listening in.
11:43The team was still discussing, as we did have,
11:46that one of those engines go out on the way uphill,
11:50and because of that, we are not going to do the additional burn that will send us into orbit.
11:58So definitely not the outcome we were all hoping to hear today,
12:04but we've said it multiple times,
12:07we are only going to go to orbit when we are extremely confident in the health of the vehicle.
12:13And since we had that engine go out during that ascent burn,
12:16the team has made the call not to commit to orbit.
12:20So given that, what does the rest of this flight look like?
12:25So as we talked in the pre-show, since we, with that, the design of the initial ascent burn,
12:32we were going to be on a passively safe suborbital trajectory.
12:37So that is what we are on, which means this starship is on a path towards the Indian Ocean,
12:44and that's where it's going to head.
12:46We are not going to attempt to deploy the Starlinks or anything else.
12:51And in this condition, we are carrying a bunch of additional payload.
13:00and actually stand by.
13:06All right, everybody hang with me just for a couple of minutes.
13:10We're actually going to attempt to reset the current hold.
13:16Teams, continue to look at everything.
13:18So you're getting this in real time as I'm starting to see it.
13:25So we are not giving up yet on orbit.
13:30You're all joining me now, and hopefully not another psych moment, but we'll see.
13:36So the team's continuing to look at everything on the rocket.
13:39Again, we're only going to go if we're confident in all of our other systems.
13:43We had an RVAC go out.
13:45We're not going to use those engines the rest of the time.
13:50So teams digging in and looking at the additional health,
13:53all the indicators for those Raptor sea level engines,
13:57which are the ones that are critical for not only getting to orbit,
14:02but also getting out of orbit.
14:07So we will continue to hang out.
14:14Edge of your seat, or if you're like me, you're standing up, bobbing up and down.
14:27All right, keep hanging with us.
14:30Again, we had about 18 minutes between the planned ship engine cutoff
14:35and when we would do the orbital insertion burn.
14:44A lot of conversation in the room behind me
14:46as they're continuing to look through everything.
15:00And if you're just now joining us, that's a starship in space.
15:05We are waiting for a final, final confirmation
15:09on if we're going to make the attempt to go to orbit today or not.
15:12A little extra drama as we go through this decision.
15:24So the team, one of the things they've been looking at
15:26is the condition that caused the RVAC,
15:29the Raptor vacuum engine, to shut down early.
15:32And if it's a condition that isn't going to violate
15:35our launch constraints or our flight rules,
15:38we can still make the call to go to orbit.
15:41So that's what they're talking about.
15:54The good news is it did look like those,
15:58all three of our center engines,
16:01the Raptor sea levels,
16:02the ones that we need for the orbital insertion burn
16:07and for the deorbit burn at the end of the mission.
16:11We're looking healthy.
16:13So that's one of the main things
16:15that they're looking at right now.
16:24So just continue to hang with me the second I know.
16:28I'll let all of you know.
16:41And we are 16 minutes into the flight.
16:46We were planning on doing the orbital insertion burn
16:49about 25 minutes and change into the launch.
16:52So we still have some time.
16:57Sounds like the team is getting ready
17:00to do a final go-no-go
17:03in the next minute or so.
17:17While we wait for that final go-no-go,
17:19how about daylight views after launch?
17:21Welcome back to morning launches from Starbase.
17:30All right.
17:31We are continuing to stand by.
17:47Again, just to recap,
17:50if you're just jumping in,
17:51we lift it off.
17:537.48 a.m. Central,
17:55booster able to make it
17:57all the way up through its boost back burn
17:59down to a landing burn splashdown in the Gulf.
18:02Its mission is at an end.
18:04All eyes right now on Starship.
18:07It is still in our initial suborbital trajectory.
18:11We have not made a final call
18:13on whether or not we're going to orbit.
18:15We had one RVAC,
18:17the Raptor Vacuum Engine,
18:19go out during that ascent burn.
18:24And we do not need RVACs for the rest of the way.
18:27So that's essentially giving the team time to go through,
18:30look at all indicators of health on those remaining engines,
18:34particularly the three center sea level engines
18:37that we need for the orbital insertion burn
18:45and for the deorbit burn.
18:47Sorry.
18:48You're going to hear me start and stop a little bit.
18:50It sounds like we're about three minutes away
18:52until they're going to do their final go-no-go
18:54for burn two.
18:55So just a couple of minutes.
18:57We'll make the final call.
19:00Again, per our timeline,
19:02we are about five minutes away from,
19:06or sorry, about seven minutes away
19:09from the time we were planning on doing
19:11the orbital insertion burn.
19:13This is just going to be a single Raptor engine
19:16that we're going to light using the header tanks
19:19through the smaller tanks
19:21in the nose cone of the vehicle.
19:23We've done on-orbit relights
19:27using these tanks in the sea level engines
19:29on previous flight tests.
19:31We have never done this orbital insertion burn.
19:34So we're just going to turn that engine on.
19:35That's going to give us enough velocity,
19:37enough speed to maintain orbit.
19:43And so if that does come,
19:46it'll be the first time we put a starship into orbit.
19:55And critically, we are carrying 26 Starlink satellites
19:59that we're hoping to add to the constellation today.
20:03They'll have their own pretty fun road
20:07to get on orbit and operate for the first time.
20:11So not quite a test flight for the Starlinks,
20:15but definitely a first try to get the Starlink V3s
20:18up into the orbital constellation
20:20where they are going to dramatically increase
20:24the amount of bandwidth we can put through the entire system.
20:30All right, coming up on 20 minutes.
20:33That launch honestly feels like it was three hours ago.
20:39We say excitement guaranteed.
20:41We don't lie.
20:44So we are continuing to stand by.
20:46We should be getting that final go-no-go
20:48for burn number two,
20:50the one that will send Starship into orbit
20:52within the next minutes.
20:54Give me 30 seconds.
20:56I need a drink.
21:02Jake and Amanda, you guys still with me down there?
21:05Yeah, we are down here,
21:07and we're waiting for your word, Dan.
21:10We're on edge just as much as everyone in the room here.
21:15Seems maybe promising?
21:17Sounds like we, like you're saying,
21:20we're not totally out of luck yet.
21:23We are still evaluating the data
21:25and trying to see if we can kind of reset this hold here,
21:29or this alarm that we had on Engine 6
21:31to put us in a good spot to try to go to orbit.
21:35Yeah, definitely hopeful,
21:37but we're along for the ride just like everybody else,
21:39so fingers crossed.
21:43And this is a pretty sweet view
21:45we're seeing here on the screen right now.
21:46We can see this is from the forward flap
21:49looking down back at Starship,
21:52and of course beautiful Earth there in the background.
22:00It sounds like we're doing a go-no-go pull right now,
22:02so let's toss it back upstairs to Dan.
22:13All right, so...
22:19The go-no-go pull for orbit has finished,
22:25and we are go for orbit.
22:37All right, so in just about three minutes,
22:42we should be lighting one of those raptors
22:46to send Starship into orbit.
22:47All right.
22:50All right.
23:06Dan, that is just awesome news there.
23:09You probably heard the crowd behind us.
23:11That's the first time we've ever said that on this program.
23:13Go for orbit.
23:15So that is a really, really cool thing to hear,
23:19and obviously it means quite a bit
23:21for the remainder of this mission.
23:23So, of course, if the orbital burn goes as planned,
23:28our next step will be to deploy 26 Starlink satellites,
23:33hopefully to join the operational fleet.
23:37Yeah, we do have a few minutes until that next milestone,
23:40so for now, sit tight,
23:42enjoy the space views and the jams,
23:44and we'll be back for that orbital insertion burn.
23:47Until then, enjoy the views as Starship coasts through space.
