00:00We did have a trade that took place earlier today where the New York Giants, who in the offseason gave
00:07$13 million in an extension to Jameis Winston to be the backup.
00:12But now they just gave up a fifth rounder to go out and get J.J. McCarthy to add to
00:20the quarterback room there.
00:22I mean, let's face it, the conditions weren't great at MetLife.
00:25We knew they weren't going to be great at MetLife here with the Nor'easter.
00:28But they did enough to be able to get the win, the Giants.
00:32And, you know, Greg, I could have sworn somewhere on this show a couple of weeks ago when Jackson Dark
00:39got hurt,
00:40there might have been somebody mentioning the fact that maybe J.J. McCarthy would not be a bad look here.
00:47And I guess a fifth round pick, you know, you got to have, you can't just put all your eggs
00:53in the Jameis Winston basket.
00:55And they do have some winnable games coming up.
00:57So, win-win, good for J.J. McCarthy, good for the Giants.
01:03Yeah, I think last week, if I'm not mistaken, on the show, our producers were very anti-Joe Ranieri saying
01:11that would not happen and it was a bad idea.
01:15And, man, did you nail that one.
01:17As a matter of fact, I recall saying I think it's a great idea.
01:21And on top of it, I think you got the trade and I think I nailed the draft pick.
01:26And it's the team, too.

01:28So, credit to you on that one.
01:30It's an absolutely great deal for the Giants.
01:32There's nothing to lose whatsoever here.

01:45That's not a guarantee.
01:46You know Winston's going to play for sure after that one.
01:48So, he has next week and probably has the week after that.
01:51If McCarthy plays and he plays well, he becomes a possible asset for them maybe to trade in the offseason.

01:59If Jackson Dart's not ready for the beginning of next season, they have him, too.
02:03You know, there's a lot of familiarity, obviously, there because of Jim Harbaugh knowing J.J. McCarthy at Michigan.
02:11And so, naturally, John Harbaugh just makes a phone call and says, is this kid legit?
02:15He says, yes.
02:16And now here we are.
02:17He's in a Giants uniform.
02:17So, I love this move for the Giants.
02:20I think it's a great, great shot.
02:23There's very little downside to this.
02:26And the season is long.
02:28It's 17 games.
02:29Winston inevitably is going to have his game this season where it's going to be, you know, one touchdown, five
02:36picks, and end of the line.
02:37I mean, that's the story with Jameis every year.

02:45Well, as long as he keeps playing okay, I think they'll keep him in there.
02:48But I suspect we'll see McCarthy at some point starting for the Giants this season.

02:58There's the Vikings, it really didn't matter, truthfully, like whether they kept him or not.
03:04There is a little risk on their part, too, I will say.
03:07You know, like if you think about it, not that McCarthy was going to be good or not.
03:11I am not sold at all on Murray, and I'm not sold at all on Wentz.
03:14I know what their record is, and I know they're playing well.
03:16I understand that.
03:18But, you know, come talk to me in a few months from now.
03:21I mean, Murray has basically never had a great season, maybe once.
03:25And Wentz has been kicked around the league for the last five years.
03:29So, you know, a little bit of a risk here, I think, too, for Minnesota to give away McCarthy like
03:34this and this quickly, given their quarterback room.
03:37I guess I just would like to add that, too.
03:39But I think a bigger win, honestly, for the Giants than the Vikings.

03:55If they can get J.J. McCarthy to look anything like what Minnesota had hoped he would be, which was,
04:03you know, a starting caliber quarterback in the NFL, if they can put that front on, then they'll be able
04:08to trade him when his contract is up.
04:12Because right now he's still under the rookie deal, so I think he's got a couple of years left under
04:17that where nobody's going to pay an arm and a leg for him.
04:19But if he can show that he can play, if they can figure it out for him and he shows
04:26some value, I mean, listen, nobody plummeted more, I think, over the last two years than J.J. McCarthy did.
