00:05What inspired this era of Sharon Horgan?
00:08Because looking at the back of your career, you seem to be one of the most prolific human beings in
00:12the entertainment industry.
00:14And I have no idea how someone can keep fueling themselves for so long with so many ideas.
00:22I don't know. I just like making stuff, you know?
00:28And it takes a long time to make a TV show.
00:32So kind of while you're making a TV show, you're percolating other ideas, you know, in the background.
00:37Like, I don't know, like stuff comes to me all the time and not anywhere near half of it gets
00:45made.
00:45But, you know, like this idea I had before Bad Sisters and it just kind of sat there.
00:51And then when Bad Sisters ended and I sort of had the potential to sort of go back into, you
00:59know, half hour TV, I kind of thought, well, this could be a really fun thing to write about.
01:05And also the idea of a mother and son and that sort of odd couple kind of relationship.
01:10And I don't know, it felt like I could kind of see the show before it was sort of anything
01:15at all, you know?
01:17But, yeah, I just like to keep busy.
01:19I'm not really good if I'm not working on something I don't know what to do with myself.
01:24I was looking at your Wikipedia.
01:26I think you've been in like 50, 53 shows or something.
01:30Which is stupid.
01:31Is it?
01:32It just sounds like, it just sounds mental to say.
01:35Yeah.
01:35Because these things, you don't just film and edit them in a couple of days.
01:39Like these things are weeks and months or years in the process.
01:43Well, years, yeah, years.
01:44So, yeah, and I started kind of late, you know?
01:47I didn't get into it until I was in my 30s.
01:49I guess that's part of it, though, isn't it?
01:51Like sort of making up for my wayward 20s when I didn't do anything.
01:56It feels a bit of a theme in this show of kind of, well, you're kind of battling against time
02:01in a way.
02:02Yeah.
02:03Addressing your youth.
02:04Yeah.
02:05By the way, that's another reason why I make so much stuff.
02:08It's not like I don't want to live.
02:09Like I am living.
02:10But also I kind of think, you know, I don't, like I should.
02:15Crack on.
02:15I've only done 53 shows, guys.
02:17I need to do, I need to do a 54th.
02:19And people are going to think I'm feckless and lazy.
02:21I don't believe the 53 shows thing.
02:23I don't think that's true.
02:23I mean, I think some of them will be like appearances on stuff.
02:26But they're not rookie numbers.

02:29This isn't even a question, but something else I wrote on my notes.

02:34That was one of my big thoughts of yesterday.
02:36And I love that guy, obviously.
02:39He's not known for that sort of character.
02:42I think that's why he wanted to do it.
02:44Yeah.
02:45Because it was so different from what he normally does.
02:47But he also gets to be really funny.
02:49Yeah, he does get to be really funny.
02:50Like everybody in this gets to be really funny.
02:53I know.
02:54How important and how involved were you in the casting of bringing this group of people
03:00together?
03:01And the day players who come in.
03:04I know.
03:04It's so, every conversation in it, there are laughs, which is very, very unique.
03:09This is so nice.
03:10This is a really nice interview.
03:11I'm very involved in the casting because I think it's the most important thing.
03:16You know, the writing, number one, and then the casting, and then everything else is secondary.
03:19But Nina Gold, who cast Bad Sisters with us, came on board for youth as well.
03:26And, but we work really closely together.
03:30And it took us months to find these people because I am very, because it's a difficult thing to do,
03:37that sort of comedy drama thing.
03:39And to be very nimble and also to be believable and, you know, to say something that breaks your heart
03:44and then deliver a joke.
03:45Like you have to really be on your toes.
03:47And, and so it takes a long time to, to find those people.
03:51Yeah.
03:51But I'm really glad you noticed that because I'm even, yeah, the smallest part, I feel like we got.
03:57I think one of the, the, the, the biggest parts in it, in, in, in both the show and in
04:02the kind of casting process is you brought in you and Aaron.
04:05Yeah.
04:05Killian's son.
04:06And whenever you bring someone in who is like the, the, the child of someone so like beloved and respected,
04:11there is that kind of people are going to have an even more keen eye.
04:13Yeah.
04:14And is this person like worth their salt?
04:16Have they earned their place in this?
04:17And he's, he's brilliant and he's so subtle and that kind of odd couple, mother and son relationship you have
04:24is, is incredible.
04:26He's, he's, he's exceptional.
04:27And, and the only reason why I'm not worried about that scrutiny is because he's so good.
04:32Like, you know, there, there won't be a single question about him earning his place.
04:38He, you know, I, I, we, we saw so many boys and, and he was, you know, stand out.
04:44He's so believable.
04:46He's so real.
04:46He's such a normal kid.
04:47Like his parents did a great job.
04:49Like he is a real boy and, and, and was, um, such a great part of the creative process as
04:56well because he would be, he would always tell you when something didn't sound real, you know, or it didn't
05:02sound like an 18 year old would say it.
05:04And, and yeah, he's, um, I think he's riveting to watch, you know, and he's so funny.
05:11He's definitely got a big career ahead of him.
05:13Yeah.
05:13Uh, even in kind of later episodes in the show, he starts to be like really funny and really, uh,
05:17so looking forward to seeing what you guys do next, what he does next, what you do next.
05:21Probably another 50 bloody shows.
05:23Yeah, probably.
05:24Hit the, hit the, hit the, hit the hundred, you know, and then finally I will rest.
