00:00So what about this year, 2026, who's the most inspiring woman?
00:03Well tonight I'm giving the award for Artist of the Year to Sam Taylor Johnson
00:07and she's someone who's really broken glass ceilings for us.
00:11She's sort of fearless in her vulnerability, she's made it in photography, she's made it in filmmaking,
00:17she's just somebody who's unapologetically true to herself, she's overcome personal hardship
00:22and honestly she's got a hot husband, she's just kicking all the goals.
00:26It's so hard to pick just one because I think there are so many incredible women
00:30who are really paving the way for a lot of beautiful change.
00:34Every day I'm inspired by the women I surround myself with, my friends, my mom, so maybe my mom.
00:42I'm sure everyone has said their mom tonight but it's true.
00:45So many, so many but right now Dina Asher Smith.
00:49Yes.
00:50My wife, obviously my wife Frances, she's also a performer
00:54but she is the one person I think that keeps me going every single day.
01:00And then obviously my mother and my sisters, they are the women that raised me,
01:05that made me the man that I am today.
01:07The reason why I look at women and respect them the way that I do, so them.
01:13Wow, well there's women absolutely being inspirational all over the place, in all walks of life.
01:21And it, I find it very moving because there are a lot of men who are inspirational as well
01:29but you always know that a woman's had to work a little bit harder to get there.
01:35So I find that very, quite profound.
01:38I think there's been so many and I think we've had so many pertinent stories.
01:42The one that instantly popped in my mind, so I might pronounce her name wrong
01:45because I've only ever seen it written down, but Giselle Pellicoe, you know, when she was in France.
01:50I think that whole, a very much more serious tone, but I think the whole ordeal was harrowing.
01:56But for her to stand up and stand up and be a beacon of light for so many survivors out
02:01there,
02:01I think is really admirable.
02:02I mean, always my wife, obviously Jilly, we lost at the beginning of, well, last year.
02:09So she's certainly, you know, on my mind a great deal.
02:12But this year I'm here to support and give the award to Bella McClain.
02:16So I, she's an amazing woman and a force to be reckoned with.
02:20So many.
02:21I look at all the women film directors that blaze the path for me,
02:24like Jane Campion is like an absolute idol, Catherine Bigelow.
02:28And I just hope that me making films, and I've made four now,
02:33and, you know, only 4% of directors in Hollywood are women.
02:37And that's for the first film, and the second film it drops down to like 1%.
02:41So as long as we keep going, and I know there's a few more,
02:46there hopefully is inspiration from us who are doing it.
02:50You know what, I'm going to say Emma Corrin.
02:54And they, the way that they played Elizabeth in Our Pride and Prejudice,
03:00and heralded the cast, and was our leader, and my older sister in it, really inspires me.
03:06They have the most incredible sense of curiosity and generosity.
03:11Such a brilliant listener, and such a singular person, and so cool.
03:15Oh my God, so many.
03:17My mum, as always.
03:19But so many people.
03:21I mean, it was...
03:25I just think of the people I've worked with this year,
03:27like Sadie Smith and Lena Dunham,
03:29my two, my poster Emily Fenn in the show,
03:32my best friend Emily.
03:35So it's all my favourite people.
03:36Pick that name up.
03:37Yeah, yeah, yeah.
03:37What is the most badass thing that another woman has inspired you to do?
03:44Say no.
03:46Just say no.
03:47I'm not good at saying no.
03:49And I don't mean that in the wrong circumstances.
03:54Just...
03:55Because I suppose I'm a bit of a crowd pleaser.
03:59Saying no has not been on my radar that much.
04:02But I'm getting better at it.
04:03I should be by now.
04:05You know what, I've been so fortunate to have had so many brilliant role models.
04:09Mmm, what's the most incredible thing?
04:12I think it's just always to be yourself at 110%.
04:17Because at the end of the day, in this life, all you can be is you.
04:20Be your most vibrant, your most fabulous, your most sparkling,
04:24in whatever form that takes, and you will be great.
04:27Badass thing, you know what, what, it wasn't really a badass thing,
04:32but it was more like a grounding.
04:35Naomi Harris was like, just carry yourself how you want people to treat you
04:39and how you want to be presented.
04:41Just do that, and you'll be good.
04:43And she came to my play the other night.
04:45I was on the National Theatre stage, and she came to see it.
04:48And I'm just doing everything she told me to do.
04:51I'm following Naomi Harris' guide to success.
04:54The most badass advice is probably my mum.
04:58If you met her, you'd know.
