Lapid: Fixed term for barangay, SK officials to save billions in public funds

Sen. Lito Lapid backed the new law fixing the term of office of barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials to five years, saying the measure could save the government billions of pesos that could instead be used to provide assistance to sectors affected by rising fuel and commodity prices. Lapid made the statement during his visit to three villages in Batangas City, where he distributed grocery packs to around 600 residents.

Republic Act 12326, signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday, set the next barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in November 2028, with succeeding elections to be conducted every five years.
