SCP-1903 is a humanoid female exhibiting mutated extremities and a biological, leporine mask permanently fused to its facial structure. The subject spontaneously secretes mercury-contaminated blood following severe ritualistic trauma. Primarily, SCP-1903 represents a conditional infohazard: specific knowledge regarding the circumstances of its mutilation triggers a transmissible physical metamorphosis in subjects, resulting in similar facial anomalies, psychological degradation, and subsequent anomalous mercury toxicosis.

00:00Jackie's regular was here. Again. She recognized his strut, that strange brown suit he always wore,
00:08and the strangers who always came in with him. Of course, everyone at the club was always a
00:12stranger. That was by design. You had to choose a mask before entering. The regular always wore
00:19the mask of a fox, perhaps because he thought it was an amusing combination with Jackie.
00:24After all, Jackie Barter always dressed like a rabbit, complete with white dress,
00:28a bunny mask, and a big pair of novelty ears. The clients at the club always seemed to go wild
00:34for
00:34that, so Mr. Donner, her boss, told her to keep it up if she wanted that raise. The regular wanted
00:40Jackie and bottle service in a private booth, like always. The woman in the white dress would be his
00:46only words to Mr. Donner, along with the customary handful of neatly folded $50 bills. Jackie was
00:53sitting with the regular in the booth, who stared at her through the eyes of his fox mask, with barely
00:58contained hunger. He spent a lot of money to get Jackie alone like this, away from the other
01:03customers. If he wanted to be entertained for far less, all you'd need to do is subscribe to Dr. Bob
01:09right here on YouTube, which means you'll be able to access an endless feed of animated videos about
01:14the strange, terrifying, and anomalous. But that's not the kind of entertainment the regular went in
01:19for. He had far more specific tastes, and Jackie had spent quite a few months learning them firsthand.
01:28You're certainly an interesting one, Mr. Fox, she said. He laughed behind his mask. Please,
01:34Bunny, call me Arnold. All my friends do. You think we're friends, she said. The regular,
01:40Arnold, scooched a little closer. Don't you want to be my friend, Bunny?
01:44Bunny? She cocked her head to the side. I can be anything you want me to be,
01:49Arnold. That made him laugh. The thrill of her using his real name. The danger of it. Oh,
01:56what a rush. Oh, I just want to eat you up, little bunny. Can you really blame a hungry fox
02:03like me?
02:04So many of their sessions played out like this. She didn't think twice about it. She was a
02:08professional. She knew how to cater to all kinds of peculiar and specific needs. If only she'd known
02:15the darkness that lurked behind that fox mask. Things might have turned out differently for Jackie.
02:22But sadly, everything was already in motion at this point.
02:26That night, after work, a desperate woman with frightened eyes cornered Jackie in the parking lot.
02:31You're in danger, she said, voice shaking. Jackie had no idea what was happening here.
02:36Excuse me, she said. The man in the fox mask, she said. He's my husband.
02:42That hit her like a brick wall. Jackie wasn't naive. She knew that some of the men who paid for
02:47her services were married, but to encounter the wife was a whole different order. She immediately
02:53entered a defensive stance, worried that an attack would come next. You're in danger,
02:58the wife repeated. You have to understand, he's a dangerous man. I'm trying to help you.
03:04You need to get out of town as quickly as possible. Jackie didn't know if she should believe anything
03:09that she was hearing, but she knew she needed to get out of this situation right now. She made a
03:14hasty retreat to her car, hopped inside, and drove home to her apartment. She had no idea that someone
03:20else had been watching the whole time, or that someone else had followed her home. It wasn't until
03:27later that night when he made himself known. She heard him creeping down the hallway, the tip of his
03:33switchblade scraping against the wallpaper. She saw the flash of orange, his fox mask,
03:38before anything else. Seems like what we've got here is a failure of discretion,
03:44little bunny, he said. So I think we might need to break off our little arrangement.
03:49Oh, I'm going to miss you, bunny. How about one more for the road? There's something I've always
03:55wanted to try. When the SCP Foundation found Jackie Barter, she was, to put it delicately,
04:02different. She was recovered from a hospital outside Las Vegas, Nevada, where she'd received
04:07injuries that should have killed her, but somehow didn't. Her left eye was gone, seemingly cut out,
04:13and filled with a quantity of mercury that should have sent her to the next life. Her entire body was
04:18faintly radioactive, which manifested in the grotesque physical symptoms of her face sloughing
04:23off her skull, little by little, thanks to dying skin cells. But she was still wearing a pair of
04:30novelty bunny ears, just like the ones she always wore at the club. Anytime a member of hospital staff
04:35attempted to remove the ears, she became extremely distressed, so it was deemed more practical for
04:41her recovery to just leave them on. There was no expectation, even with the painkillers and IVs that she
04:47was attached to, that she would actually survive the night. When she miraculously did, it set off
04:52alarm bells at the nearby Site-45, the Foundation site nearest to Las Vegas. It's known for dealing
04:59with anomalies related to the Pitch Haven phenomenon, a particular Gnostic theory of existence that accounts
05:04for a race of hyper-intelligent and mystically inclined talking animals that predated the human race
05:10and our own reality. The site's lead field agent, Japanese-American agent Sarah Crowley,
05:15was dispatched to the ICU to study and secure the entity that was once Jackie Barter. Though now
05:21she has a different name, SCP-1903. And of course, a big question. What exactly happened to Jackie that
05:29changed the course of her life so drastically for the worse? We're going to need to get to the bottom
05:33of Jackie's secret. When Agent Crowley looked over Jackie's papers at the hospital, she found a few
05:39more details. The wound that was once Jackie's left eye seemed to be the result of a nasty encounter with
05:45a switchblade. The radioactive material with the mercury isotope seemed to be placed into Jackie's
05:50eye socket to destroy traces of genetic evidence that was also found there. Clearly, something
05:55terrible had happened to this girl for reasons unknown, and her continued existence despite the
06:00horrors waged against her body definitely bordered on anomalous. She would be taken back to Site-45 for
06:06continued observation with the accomplished researcher and close friend of Agent Crowley, Dr. Stuart Hayward.
06:11He found that while Jackie could, in theory, communicate verbally with members of Foundation
06:16staff, the trauma of whatever had happened to her, plus the deleterious mental effects of the high
06:22quantity of mercury in her bloodstream, have made her unwilling to engage in conversation with him
06:27or anyone else. Over time, he also began to observe the physical effects of whatever happened to Jackie
06:33getting worse and worse, in ways no medical professional could ever understand.
06:39When the Foundation brought her in, she was experiencing her skin peeling off of her face,
06:44but after a few months in containment, she was developing a new face entirely.
06:49Her skin began to reshape itself on her skull, synthesizing new compounds, and eventually creating
06:55a visage that looked not unlike a warped version of the bunny mask that she used to wear to anonymize
07:00herself while on the job. The mercury content in her body only increased, dripping toxic fluid out of
07:06the hole which had once been her left eye. That meant Foundation technicians wearing thick gloves
07:11needed to replace the bandages every two days. It wasn't just her face that changed. Her hands and
07:17feet became twisted and blackened, sweating mercury-tainted blood out of her pores, the ends of her digits
07:23sharpening into claws. The anomalous nature of Jackie's tortured existence was impossible to deny now,
07:30but the question still remained. What was Jackie's secret? Who did this to her? And how? And did the
07:36threat remain of this somehow happening to someone else? This called for some good old-fashioned
07:41detective work, and the highly skilled Agent Crowley was on the case. It made sense to first get into
07:47contact with Mr. Donner, the proprietor of the company where Jackie Barter had worked. Agent Crowley
07:52approached under the cover of being a private detective following up leads, which allowed her access to the
07:57twitchy little man's office. When she first asked to speak with him, he rubbed his temples and said,
08:02God damn it, I thought you were all done. Fine, fine, but make it quick. This is bad for business.
08:06She nodded and opened her notebook, obfuscating the fact that she'd actually been taking an audio
08:11recording with a concealed microphone the entire time. How well did you know, Jackie? He shook his head.
08:17Not well. She was one of the skirts, that's it. I haven't heard a single complaint about her till all
08:22this nonsense started. I made sure she didn't steal anything and that she didn't sneak out while on the job.
08:27Mainly, though, I made sure she kept her mouth shut. What's-her-name clearly didn't get the message.
08:32Agent Crowley had to hide her distaste at Mr. Donner's dismissiveness around a woman who may
08:37have even sacrificed her humanity in the course of working for him. She asked,
08:41What exactly do your employees do? He shrugged. I don't know.
08:46Do you really expect me to believe that, Donner? You own the business.
08:50Donner rolled his eyes. Let me re-clarify. I don't want to know. Our clients are typically
08:56important people, which means they're usually overworked. When they're all work and no play,
09:00they can get rather... depraved for a good time. They can't really keep a low profile when it comes
09:06to who they are, so I give them the means to conceal their identity. Hence the theme.
09:11It might help you if you go bug Arnold Friend about this. He hasn't been around since,
09:14and there was always something off about him. That made Crowley's ears prick up.
09:19Arnold Friend. Yeah, him. He always looked like he was expecting something. He managed the chemical
09:25plant a few blocks from here. Had a wife, a high-income job, no real criminal record. He was
09:30a regular, but he always brought about three or four friends with him. Different people each time.
09:34Don't ask who they are, because I don't know. I couldn't get any information about any of them.
09:38Maybe they used aliases for that one time and never came back. Maybe they've been living off
09:42record. Maybe both. Either way, I know jack about them.
09:46Thoroughly sick of talking to this man at this point, Crowley nodded, made her perfunctory notes,
09:51and asked Mr. Donner if there was anything else he wanted to share. Slipping him a fifty,
09:55admittedly, helped. Afraid not. They've spent more time here than usual, I guess. Maybe an hour each
10:01visit. And their requests were the same. V and I quote, woman dressed in white. Jackie was their
10:07preferred handler. Oh, and the creep's wife came around here, sticking her nose where it don't belong.
10:12Friend's wife contacted you. Yeah, she came around here looking for information. She must have been
10:17suspicious and followed him here. I sent her away, but she must have got the Jackie after hours.
10:22She's probably given some sob story about our husband's cheating on her or something, and
10:26Jackie told her. All I know is that Jackie didn't come in the next day. Now they had some data
10:31to work
10:32from, and a major person of interest in the case. Arnold Friend, the owner of a Las Vegas chemical plant
10:37and apparent frequent employer of Jackie's services before she was... changed. With the
10:43Foundation's resources, it wasn't hard to track down Friend's location and give him a little drop-in
10:48visit. When nobody answered the knocking of Foundation agents against his door, they took that
10:52as all the cue they needed to burst in and begin searching for him. And they found him, just not
10:58in
10:58a state where he'd be able to answer any questions. His face had transformed into a horrific animal
11:04mask, just like Jackie, complete with advanced mercury poisoning and deformed hands and feet.
11:09In a panic, Arnold had attempted to remove his mask with a knife, and sustained fatal injuries.
11:15His wife had presumably left the home and perhaps even skipped town sometime earlier,
11:20upon discovering her husband's history of illicit affairs. The Foundation search for her is still
11:25ongoing, but the transformed state of Arnold Friend was yet another concerning data point.
11:30Was this an anomaly state that originated with Arnold and passed over to Jackie, or one that
11:35originated with Jackie and was then somehow passed over to Arnold? Dr. Hayward continued his research
11:41into Jackie directly, putting together information into workable theories and even beginning to open
11:46a dialogue with her. He sent out copies of the theories he was creating and assigned junior
11:50researcher Jennings to transcribe them into the main SCP Foundation file. Everything seemed to be going in
11:56the right direction, until Dr. Hayward and Jennings, along with a huge number of other researchers,
12:01began undergoing transformations of their own. Each of them began developing identical symptoms to Jackie,
12:07animal mask faces, novelty animal ears that function as their real ears, blackened claws for hands and
12:13feet, and severe mercury poisoning. All of the affected individuals were quarantined within Site-45,
12:19while other researchers tried to figure out what was going on, but it was Dr. Hayward himself,
12:23in the throes of infection, who had the revelation that made all the pieces fit together. The vector
12:29for infection is knowledge of what exactly happened to Jackie. Jackie's secret, so to speak. Seeing as
12:35Jackie herself and Arnold Friend were the first to know, they were the first to be infected. And then,
12:40when Dr. Hayward figured out the correct theory of how exactly Arnold had horrifically treated Jackie,
12:46he and everyone who read his writing on the matter was infected too. It was a perfect,
12:50self-perpetuating info hazard, and the only solution was to seal away all the information from any
12:56Foundation personnel who hadn't already been infected. The director of Site-45, Dr. Harold
13:01Crott, decided to give Dr. Hayward a debriefing interview to experience what infection was like
13:06from a subjective personal experience. By the time the interview was concluded, Dr. Hayward's face had
13:12become that of a strange, warped cat creature. Despite this, in the interview itself, he was remarkably
13:18lucid. When Dr. Crott asked him how he was feeling, he said,
13:22Fine, I guess. I feel bad about Jennings. You wouldn't have written the report and sent it out
13:27to everyone if I hadn't told him to. No one on the team knew the whole story at the time,
13:31just
13:31fragments. Dr. Crott attempted to assuage his guilt. You were just doing your job. If he hadn't
13:38written it, someone else would have. Hayward exhaled and hung his peculiar head.
13:43I guess you're right. Someone had to do it, I suppose. If not him, then Martin or Tammy.
13:50Listen, I appreciate the sympathy, really, I do, but I'm sure you have questions. Let's just get
13:55them over with. How did you feel after exposure? Hayward seemed to weigh the question. Felt fine
14:02at first. After a couple of hours, the affected area started to feel irritated, though. I didn't think
14:09much of it till the second day. By then, it felt more like a bad sunburn, and my face was
14:13peeling
14:14off. The testing for mercury wasn't much fun, either. It still kind of hurts when you touch it.
14:20Crott nodded. All right, we can provide you some painkillers, if it'd help.
14:24Would you mind detailing your report? You said that SCP-1903 attempted to communicate with you.
14:30Right. I was in the observatory reading Revision 2. By the time I finished, I saw SCP-1903 staring at
14:37me
14:37from across the cell through the observatory window. I didn't even notice her move. It made
14:42me jump. She didn't say anything, but she shushed me. I pressed the button for a photograph and tried
14:49to talk to her through the intercom, but when I did, she just sat back down on her cot. My
14:55guess is
14:55that she realized I was reading her file and then tried to warn me not to tell anyone, but that's
15:01all
15:01that is, I guess. Dr. Crott nodded and asked whether Hayward had anything else to report.
15:07This led to a whole different line of revelations. Hayward, since infection, had been experiencing
15:12bizarre, fragmentary hallucinations. I started seeing them last night, around the time I noticed
15:19that the mask finished growing. I don't feel dizzy or anything when they happen. Sometimes I don't even
15:26notice them happening because I'm focused on something, but sometimes, maybe like, once every
15:31couple of hours, people kind of change clothes. I can tell it's the same person, but they're either
15:39wearing a white tux or a white evening gown. Classy, if a bit revealing. People have also been
15:46wearing the masks. And I don't mean like the organic one growing on my face, more like the ones in
15:52storage, the ones we got from Donner's. If there's enough people around, it kind of looks like a
15:58masquerade. Except everyone just turns their heads to face me. Even if their necks should have snapped,
16:03they just kind of stare at me. These hallucinations, Hayward reported, all tended to last between 10 and
16:1120 seconds. And when Crott asked whether that was all he ever saw during his hallucinations, he replied,
16:17Well, sometimes there's this man leaning against the wall. He looks at me too, but I don't know,
16:24he just kind of glares at me like he expects me to be doing something. He's not wearing a mask.
16:30Brown suit, so he kind of sticks out. I should be able to know what his face looks like. I
16:35know that
16:36expression too well, but I always seem to forget it when I try to imagine it. I think it might
16:42be
16:43Donner. Jackie and everyone who's been infected by her secret are all confined within Site-45 under
16:49the SCP-1903 remit. Out of a desire to not violate containment procedures, which would get me seriously
16:56chewed out by my colleagues, I'm afraid I can't tell you exactly the secret. But the clues are there
17:01if you're curious and foolhardy enough to put them together. Just remember the old saying,
17:08curiosity killed the... well, whatever you're about to be. Want more wonders and horrors from the world
