00:00This afternoon, the General Assembly heard some bizarre remarks from the representative of Pakistan.
00:08This happens just a fortnight after New York City and the world
00:13marked the 25th anniversary of the horrendous 9-11 terrorist attack.
00:19This context, Mr. President, is important to keep in mind
00:24because its mastermind, Osama bin Laden, was living right on the doorstep of Pakistani Army's Premier Academy.
00:33And this was the very entity which was the subject of such deep genuflection before us today
00:39by the representative of Pakistan.
00:42But all this is only to be expected from what Pakistanis themselves call a Form 47 government.
00:50We heard some hypocritical homilies about democratic rights and human values
00:56from a regime whose capital at this very moment is being fortified against its own people.
01:05And that, Mr. President, is happening because this is a regime of the Army, by the Army, and for the
01:14Army.
01:15Their puppets may come and go, but let us have no illusion who calls the shots.
01:21The reality of Pakistan is expressed in its 27th Amendment
01:26and the lifelong immunity granted to its real ruler.
01:31Mr. President, the views we heard emanate from those with a long record of bigotry and hatred.
01:39They claim to uphold security during the day.
01:44They actually carry out terrorism at night.
01:47This assembly was subjected to remarks about religious intolerance
01:52from the very regime whose mainstay is blasphemy laws.
01:57The world knows how minorities are treated in Pakistan.
02:02No pious platitude can mislead it.
02:05References were made to the Indian Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
02:10This is an integral and inalienable part of my country and will always remain so.
02:18But if we must talk about Kashmir, let us turn our attention to the Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
02:25Ask the people of Rawalcoat about the wanton killings, the brutal violence,
02:29and the denial of basic rights that they have long experienced.
02:34At the heart of the issue, Mr. President,
02:38is the long-standing practice of cross-border terrorism by Pakistan.
02:43We demonstrated last year that terrorists will have nowhere to run and nowhere to hide.
02:50Our right to defend ourselves against terrorism will be exercised,
02:55and continued terrorism by Pakistan will have consequences.
03:00It will understandably call into question what were premised on friendship and goodwill.
03:06We are confident that this assembly will recognize Pakistan and its policies for what they really are,
03:14not what its representative mendaciously projects it to be.
03:19Reiterating falsehoods year after year does not make them true.
03:24Pakistan's terrorism, deceit, and duplicity will neither benefit it nor the world.
