00:00Good evening and welcome in a new episode of your program, the show Shushayir.
00:05Today, Thursday, September 24th, 2026 and 13th of Rabi al-Akhir.
00:13Honestly, today a strong earthquake hit, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 on the Richter scale.
00:21It struck Turkey, specifically Shandrifa province in southeastern Turkey, with a magnitude of 5.4.
00:30But what's strange is what happened in Syria specifically, especially in the countryside of al-Hasakah province,
00:37particularly in the Jabal Qaqab area, where the ground cracked and a lot of vapor started coming out from inside
00:44it.
00:45Now, let's go and see together this clip that shows smoke coming out from underground right now.
00:52What's strange about this is that this smoke is coming exactly from a volcanic area.
00:57Jabal Qaqab actually contains a dormant volcano.
01:02Yeah, yeah, hopefully I remember. I'll put this picture in front of you on the screen.
01:07Originally, there has been a dormant volcano here for hundreds of years.
01:12And the appearance of these vapors today, right after this strong earthquake that hit Turkey,
01:17honestly raises a lot of questions.
01:22Of course, this mountain, Mount Qaqab, is actually a basaltic volcanic cone in the middle of the plain,
01:28and it is located exactly about 15 kilometers east of the city of al-Hasakah.
01:35And I confirmed that it appeared right after the earthquake, and apparently it appeared as a result,
01:42or these smokes or vapors and the cracking of the ground appeared as a result of a separation in the
01:48lower layers of the earth.
01:50Naturally, here, science and logic tell us that this smoke might precede the magma or volcanic magma.
01:58And the volcano should be monitored closely and intensively during the next 48 hours,
02:05because the volcano could turn from dormant to active.
02:09And here we need to be careful.
02:11Of course, it's necessary. The Syrian authorities.
02:14With these earthquakes, they should send a research team to investigate the matter.
02:18There's something I want to say.
02:20How do we know?
02:21And can we confirm that it's possible?
02:23That a dormant volcano could turn into an active volcano?
02:27We should study the nature of these vapors, observe them, and analyze them.
02:33If the nature of these vapors is sulfur dioxide,
02:38that's strong evidence that the volcano could indeed change from dormant to active.
02:46So the first thing we need to do is study the vapors.
02:50Sulfur dioxide is a very strong indicator,
02:52and of course it has a pungent smell that the locals should recognize.
02:56Second, we need to study the gases carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide.
03:00That was everything.
03:01This is Ahmad Aldira Moody with you,
03:03and stay tuned to the show, What's Happening?
03:05remember to hear it like the acidification cycle,
