00:01I'm not going to be doing traditional stand-up, as you might be used to the art form.
00:05Instead, I have come here tonight to tell you about my favorite recipe.
00:09And like any recipe you may have read online, here's a bunch of shit about my parents first.
00:15My name is Steve Hofstetter. I've been a stand-up comedian for 20 years.
00:21The delightfully funny Steve Hofstetter, everybody.
00:24I've had a bunch of stuff go viral. Wrapped up a few million followers.
00:29Had over a billion views. Hell, I was even nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.
00:35Spoiler, I didn't win.
00:36My dad got real mad at my brother once, yelled,
00:39Go to hell! And my brother said,
00:40Maybe we can carpool.
00:43In the past two years, we have all experienced grief and loss in a way that no one has seen
00:48in my lifetime.
00:49So I set out to create a unique comedy special about that.
00:53How?
00:55In the fuck?
00:57Did the free love generation grow up to become our most conservative?
01:03And then I realized, oh.
01:06Well, most of the cool people died of drugs and AIDS.
01:10The setting is different.
01:11I filmed it on the very first stage I ever set foot on.
01:15My old grade school in Queens.
01:18But the material is what makes this distinct.
01:21Sure, it's funny.
01:22My parents wanted to be hippies, but they couldn't be.
01:25Because they were nerds.
01:28You can't be a nerd and a hippie at the same time.
01:31And some of you might be thinking, but I'm a nerdy hippie.
01:34No, you're just a nerd.
01:37But every comedy special is funny.
01:40And that's not the point of this one.
01:42The recipe is an hour about love, life, grief, and growth.
01:46If you ever want to know what a Jewish holiday is about, here's what you do.
01:49You walk up to a Jewish person and you say, who tried to kill you and what are you having?
01:57Please don't ever actually say that to a Jewish person, but...
02:00It is, in its essence, a love letter to my dad.
02:04I wish my father's death was one more thing he was late for.
02:08I don't want to give you any more spoilers.
02:10But I will tell you that it's a recipe for how to move forward.
02:14This special was written so that anyone who knows someone facing grief can say,
02:18Hey, I have something for you to watch.
02:22I hope you like him.
02:24I hope he would have too.
02:26And that, my friends, is the recipe.
