00:13report released on Wednesday.
00:15The grim warning by the University of Chicago-based Climate Impact Lab says that as many as 451,000 more
00:22heat-related deaths between June and the end of February could be attributed to El Nino.
00:27The El Nino is nothing new, it's a natural phenomena, climate phenomena, that can temporarily amplify the global temperatures.
00:35But the super El Nino which is happening now, it is occurring against the backdrop of a planet which is
00:41already warming due to human-induced climate change.
00:45And this combination can expose millions of people to dangerous heat.
00:50The researchers behind the report found that the Sahel regions in Africa, countries along the semi-arid southern fringe of
00:58the Sahara Desert,
00:59is expected to be the hardest heat with about 66,800 additional deaths caused by El Nino-driven heat.
