06:00Do you read the reviews or are you like, it's out, my work is done?
06:03I mean, I go through periods, like, I, you know, I'm like a, I'm a Capricorn.
06:10So, I'm obsessed with like self-punishment and always like, you know, I have to really stop myself
06:16from like reading comments, all those kinds of things. I wouldn't, I can't pretend that I'm above that.
06:20This album means so much to me and so much to the people in my life that lived through this
06:26time
06:26with me where I was, you know, in my addiction. And so at this point, especially with this album
06:32in my career, I'm honestly just happy with how it is. And that's the most important thing to me.
06:37Public scrutiny has kind of become part of an artist's journey now, for better or worse.
06:42Orville, what's your relationship with social media? Are you taking it or leaving it?
06:47I think that we have garnered some beautiful things from it.
06:51I think we've, I think there's beautiful connections to be made.
06:54I think, you know, a lot of things were like, I really do kind of yearn for the days of
06:58when I would
06:58just like skateboard out of my house when I was like 13 and you know, I had a, and I
07:03had nothing on
07:03me, but like a CD player and I would just go visit my friends. I mean, it was just a
07:08healthier
07:08time mentally. I think I really try to stay in check about social media. I don't spend very much time
07:13on it
07:13anymore. You know, I, of course I have to use it for work, but for the most part, I do,
07:19I do think
07:20people need to be like touching grass a lot more. The Malcolm Moore controversy just went down and politics
07:26aside, it's been inspiring to see artists back each other. Part of making art is taking a stand.
07:32What does Orville Peck take a stand on? You know, personally, I stand with the Palestinian people.
07:37I've been in support of that for many, many years. And I am really proud that people are taking a
07:44stand.
07:44And I think, you know, the most revealing thing is how much of our lives and our narratives are being
07:51dictated by billionaires who control what people have to say and what people are watching, what people
07:58are doing. And I think that that's like, you know, the beauty of that coming to light more in these
08:03moments, like they're scandalized and sure, whatever. But I think the real thing is, is like,
08:08the reality is none of us are free until all of us are free. There is so much control that
08:13happens,
08:14especially with art. And I'm, I am glad that people are taking a stand.
08:17We saw you on Playgirl, sir, leaving very little to the imagination. Some people would consider
08:24stripping down like that to be the ultimate vulnerability. But with the mask on, you're
08:28still holding your private self close. How do you decide what feels safe to share with the world?
08:34There's a epidemic of oversharing in our culture now and everyone knowing and seeing everything. And
08:39like, obviously, that's why more than ever, I actually love my mask because I just, if I love
08:44when it frustrates people, I will not allow you to have full access to everything about me, even if you
08:48find a picture, even if you whatever you think, that boundary needs to exist more. And like, I can see
08:54it
08:54really frustrating people sometimes and comments and stuff. And I'm like, it's good, you need to learn,
08:59you cannot have everything you want, all the information you want from everybody. It's not
09:04the way it works, you know, and so I love it. Finally, tell everyone why they should listen to
09:10Mule, which is out now. I think if people take anything from this album, look, they're my stories,
09:14they're very personal. I think, I think people will relate to a lot on this album, even if they don't,
09:20aren't, you know, struggling with addiction or things like that. I hope it just inspires people to
09:24check in on their friends. We just have to take care of one another, you know.
