00:00Sutton Coalfields Grace Church Centre is preparing for another round of change,
00:05with new shops, leisure attractions and homes planned alongside some closures.
00:11Plans have been submitted to combine the Ryman and Toys4U units on the parade.
00:15The enlarged space is expected to become a Tesco convenience store,
00:20while both existing businesses are expected to move elsewhere in the centre.
00:25The proposal follows the arrival of Harvey Norman in the former BHS building,
00:31filling a prominent unit which has stood empty since 2016.
00:36But the picture is mixed. TG Jones, which replaced WH Smith,
00:41has confirmed its Sutton Coalfield branch will close.
00:44The post office operating inside the store is also due to shut at the start of January 2027.
00:52Although the company says it's considering expressions of interest for a replacement branch.
00:58The wider redevelopment is intended to move Grace Church beyond traditional retail.
01:04Climbing centre and a bowling venue are amongst the leisure uses being lined up,
01:10while the first residential scheme includes 25 flats at Plantsbrook House.
01:15Supporters hope the changes will increase footfall and give more reason for people
01:19to visit throughout the week. However, the latest closures shows the pressure facing established
01:26town centre businesses has not disappeared.
