An extremely dangerous Category 5 monster storm, Hurricane Polo, is churning off Mexico’s Pacific coast! Packing maximum sustained winds of 165 mph (265 km/h), the super-storm is stalled roughly 250–270 km south of Zihuatanejo in the Costa Grande region of Guerrero.
Massive dark cloud bands and fierce, towering surf are already pounding beaches near Acapulco, Ixtapa, and Zihuatanejo. Mexican authorities have shut down major ports, suspended classes, and issued life-threatening flash flood and mudslide warnings across Guerrero and Michoacán. Fueled by a powerful El Niño, Hurricane Polo has rapidly intensified into one of the most explosive Pacific storms on record.
