00:00Shohei Otani is back with the Dodgers, but Josue DePaulo is gone?
00:03What's going on here? Let's explain today's Dodger roster moves.
00:06So the good news for the Dodgers is that Shohei Otani is back on the active roster.
00:11He was activated from the injured list after missing the last two weeks,
00:14nursing those left knee and right arm injuries that he's been playing through for much of the year.
00:19Coming back now, we'll give him five games over the rest of the regular season
00:22to try to get his swing back after the slump he was battling.
00:25Before he went on the IL, the Dodgers were hoping that he will physically feel better
00:29and that they will get a more productive version of Shohei Otani the rest of the way
00:33than they had seen leading up to his IL stint.
00:36As for Josue DePaulo, he came up two weeks ago to be Otani's replacement as the DH,
00:41obviously impressed in his 11 games.
00:43He reached base in half of his plate appearances.
00:45He was hitting over 300. He had a big home run.
00:47He had seven RBIs, and he remains very much in the Dodgers' postseason plans.
00:51However, the team is also planning to activate Dalton rushing later this week.
00:55When they do that, they will need to send somebody else down,
00:57and if they had waited to move DePaulo back to the minor leagues for now,
01:01he would not have been eligible for the start of the NLDS.
01:03Players who get optioned must stay in the minor leagues for 10 days,
01:07even going into the playoffs.
01:08So that's why, for right now, the Dodgers decided to send Josue back to AAA.
01:12He's going to be in Oklahoma City's lineup tonight in their playoff game.
01:15Let Dalton rushing come back, get a couple at-bats,
01:18as he tries to come back from an elbow injury and be an option for the postseason.
01:21And then the Dodgers will ultimately decide between rushing and DePaulo
01:24for a left-handed bat spot off their bench in the playoffs.
01:28Every indication is Josue DePaulo has the lead for that.
01:31His play in those first two weeks as a big leaguer were certainly impressive.
01:34It would be a surprise if he isn't back on the Dodgers' roster when the playoffs begin,
01:38but you will not see him with the team for the rest of the regular season
01:40as they try to maneuver their roster over these last couple days
01:43to set themselves up for October.
