00:02Britain's competition watchdog proposed new rules Wednesday that would require Google to give Android and Chrome users more choice over
00:10search services, including AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Perplexity, according to Reuters.
00:16Google would have to show users a choice of search providers when they first set up an Android phone or
00:21open Chrome and prompt them annually to select a default.
00:25AI assistants, meeting technical and security requirements, could appear on those choice screens.
00:31The proposals would also require search providers to fairly attribute publisher content and provide access to source material.
00:38The proposals are open for consultation until October 9th, with a final decision expected by year-end.
00:44In June, the Competition and Markets Authority ordered Google to provide more transparency about how its search rankings work under
