00:02It's all a part of the culture that was developed here in the Mission District.
00:06This is Aztec dancing. We come from ancient Mexico.
00:10Those are the cultures that we carry and the Chicano culture that started in
00:14the 60s and 70s really wanted to connect with their indigenous roots and
00:17also the art form that they were developing of lowriders as a
00:20countercultural activity. So we find a way of bringing both cultures together
00:25to support this community because we've been doing this for a long time.
00:32You want to get a job when you're young, you want to save money, you want to buy
00:36a nice house, nice family and of course a nice lowrider. Having a lowrider is a real
00:43accomplishment in the Chicano culture. Having a nice lowrider says a lot about
00:46you. It says that you put in a lot of hard work. You got a good work ethic and that
00:50you don't give up. You keep on striving for your dreams.
01:01It's important that everybody shows up here so that everybody sees that the Latino
01:05community ain't going nowhere. We're here.
01:10I'm very happy to be here. Yeah, I haven't seen these many cars that are going by.
