Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay launched the expansion of the breakfast scheme at a government school in Thiruvanmiyur, interacting with students and serving them food. Renamed as the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar breakfast scheme, the initiative expands the earlier programme introduced in 2022 by former Chief Minister MK Stalin. While the original scheme catered to students of classes one to five, the expanded project now covers middle school students from classes six to eight across state government schools. An allocation of over Rs 200 crore has been made for the expanded project.

00:00We begin with the images of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay today
00:04launching the expansion of the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme.
00:09Chief Minister Vijay was seen interacting with and greeting the students.
00:12The extension of the scheme means that middle school students
00:15between classes 5 to 8 also get the benefits of this breakfast scheme.
00:19How did he launch it?
00:21Well, Chief Minister Vijay decided to sit down and have breakfast with the students.
00:25You were seen chatting with them, enjoying what seemed to be a plate of Pongal and Upma
00:31as he was seen there interacting with the children.
00:35Let's also show you some of the other images that came in from this particular inauguration
00:40because a lot of it has gone viral as well.
00:43In another one, you had Chief Minister Vijay also going ahead and serving the students.
00:50Just before we show you this comparison with the former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin,
00:54I just want to get you all of the images that have come in of Chief Minister Vijay himself.
00:58He was seen serving students.
00:59He was seen, in fact, meeting with several of the students in classrooms as well.
01:05So, let's get you all of those images as well.
01:08This is from early this morning at a government school in Tiruvannamur
01:12as he was served breakfast.
01:14He also decided to serve the breakfast to some of the little children there.
01:19And let's get you that footage as well.
01:26This is the moment when, in fact, Chief Minister Vijay entered,
01:29was seen interacting with the children.
01:31And there you have it, was serving them breakfast as well.
01:34This was early in the morning.
01:35And this is how, in fact, he decided to launch the scheme
01:38by symbolically serving the young children their food in their plates.
01:43That's the moment there, after which he sat down and had breakfast with them.
01:46Besides that, there was also a moment when he went classroom by classroom
01:49meeting younger children who have already been beneficiaries of the scheme,
01:53sitting down with them in their classrooms.
01:56So, those are all the images that have come in.
01:59But it's not the first time we've seen these kind of announcements made.
02:02In 2022, the scheme was actually launched for the first time by DMK,
02:06by MK Stalin, and was then, in fact, called the Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme.
02:11The name has changed.
02:12The scheme has been expanded now.
02:17So, as we get to these two images, remember, like I said,
02:20this is a scheme that already existed.
02:22But there are a few changes that have taken place as well.
02:26And let me give you a sense of what those changes are.
02:29How is this different from what the DMK had already set in motion
02:33as far as this breakfast scheme is concerned?
02:36I'll explain that to you.
02:38Well, for starters, the DMK had, in fact, named this as the
02:41Chief Minister Breakfast Scheme.
02:43Now, under the TVK, there's been a brand makeover, if you will,
02:48where they've decided that the scheme will be named after Kamarajir,
02:51the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu,
02:53who was hailed for all the reforms that he brought to help children
02:56and to boost attendance in classrooms,
02:58to boost the literacy rate of the state.
03:01Now, in the DMK era, while this was a scheme launched by the DMK,
03:05by the then Chief Minister, Stalin,
03:07it was, in fact, benefiting students of classes 1 to 5.
03:10What the TVK has done is, they've taken the scheme,
03:13they've said this is a scheme that works,
03:15and they've decided to expand the scope of it.
03:17So now, from classes 6 to 8 as well,
03:20what's commonly referred to as middle school,
03:21they will also get the benefit of, in fact,
03:25this particular scheme in government schools across the state.
03:29Over 200 crores has, in fact, been allocated
03:32for this particular project.
