00:07This is one of the major findings of an investigation by the news outlet Forbidden Stories, published on Monday.
00:14For six months, the Consortium of International Journalists investigated the secretive deportation arrangements
00:21made by the U.S. government with a vast group of countries, many of them in Africa.
00:27They found that 49 out of 54 African countries had been approached in secrecy by the U.S. government
00:34to take in migrants from third countries, often in exchange for financial favors.
00:40But the U.S. has also used visa bans and other restrictions to force several countries into accepting such deportation
00:47deals.
00:50As a result, numerous migrants have found themselves in legal limbo,
00:54being held in deportation centers without charges in countries they have no links with.
