00:00Shohei Ohtani re-emerged on the field for the Dodgers on Saturday,
00:03but that wasn't even the biggest development in his recovery from arm and knee injuries.
00:07While Ohtani came out and did some on-field activities for the first time
00:11that reporters had seen since he went on the injured list a week ago,
00:14doing some base running while the rest of the team took batting practice,
00:18the biggest news today is actually that in the batting cages in the clubhouse behind the scenes,
00:23Ohtani has started taking simulated at-bats off what is called a traject arc machine.
00:27It is an augmented reality pitching machine that shows a video of a pitcher's delivery up on a screen
00:33before spitting the ball out where his hand comes.
00:35For Ohtani, that's a big step. It means that he's feeling good.
00:38He's progressed from T-work to coach pitch to normal pitching machines
00:42to now what will probably be the closest thing he will get to real at-bats
00:46before he actually returns to game action for the Dodgers.
00:49So far, hitting coach Aaron Bates said that Ohtani hasn't reported any pain,
00:53that his swing has looked significantly better and less compromised than it did
00:57before he went on the IL, and that he remains on schedule to return at some point
01:01before the end of the regular season, which the Dodgers are hoping he does
01:05so that he can get some game at-bats before the start of the playoffs.
