00:04Packed in this shipping container in Jordan are hundreds of wheelchairs.
00:07Still a long way from the young Palestinians they were destined to help.
00:12We are now feeling great pain when we see these donations.
00:17Almost 600 wheelchairs from New South Wales based Kids on Wheels arrived in February last year.
00:23This batch of 350 came in October from Wheelchairs for Kids in WA.
00:28What is stopping these wheelchairs being allowed into Gaza and reaching the children?
00:34Jordanian officials asked for permission from Israel to send the first batch in a humanitarian convoy 18 months ago.
00:40But that request was rejected and remains pending, which is stopping officials from applying for another shipment.
00:47One source telling the ABC the Israelis see them as items that could be pulled apart and used to make
00:52a weapon.
00:54They do not pose any threat.
00:57The news has reached the factory where they were built.
00:59We weren't terribly pleased that they were still in a warehouse in Jordan.
01:03So the sooner they come out of there and get to the kids the better.
01:06The wheelchairs are designed for rough terrain and to last.
01:09As the children grow the chair grows with them.
01:12So from the age of 4 or 5 to about the age of 16 they can fit into this chair.
01:16Australia's Minister for International Development says Israel should allow humanitarian aid to flow unhindered to Gaza, including wheelchairs for injured
01:24children.
01:25Israel's Aid Coordination Agency, COGAT, refused to answer the ABC's specific questions about the Australian donations, but said it approves
01:34the entry of wheelchairs into the Gaza Strip without any restrictions on numbers.
01:38It's not only wheelchairs like these which are languishing outside of the Gaza Strip.
01:43There is a hope that that may change sometime soon, even though there's a fear the status quo will continue.
01:50Packed with love, but yet to be delivered.
