Scientists have identified a remarkable new wild cat species in Bolivia: Leopardus tilcayo.
The tiny spotted cat lives in the remote Yungas cloud forests and represents a distinct evolutionary lineage that remained unrecognized by science for generations.
Its extraordinary story began when a small kitten was found beside a road and was initially believed to be a domestic cat. Years of research and genetic analysis eventually revealed something far more significant.
