00:10Hello, today we're going to try something dangerous, a two ingredient snack that could
00:16actually rival a bag of potato chips. And most importantly at the end of the video
00:29I'm going to try it and tell you whether we should switch or just stick with good old classic potato
00:35chips. Plus it's a great leftover recipe, one of the few recipes where yesterday's rice is even
00:46better than freshly made rice. So obviously we're going to need rice, you can cook it the day before
00:57and as you can see I always like to add a drizzle of oil to the pot. Then you add
01:03one cup of rice per
01:04guest and stir so that the oil as it warms up a bit coats the rice thoroughly. A pinch of
01:11salt
01:12and three times as much water as the rice you added. What did you put? One cup of rice, three
01:18cups of
01:19water. What did you put? Two, then six. Then you cover it, leave it over medium heat to bring it
01:26up to
01:27temperature and cook until it's done just the way you like it. I already have this one ready, let it
01:34rest,
01:35covered. And like I said at the beginning, whenever you want to use it and if it's from the day
01:40before,
01:40even better, today we're going to use one cup. We transfer it to a food processor or chopper,
01:47spread it out a bit so it's evenly distributed and give it an extra kick of flavor either with garlic
01:54powder, black pepper or both. And the thing is, if we want to compete with baked potato chips,
02:03to even step onto the field, we're going to need the same weapons.
02:19Right now it looks like a lot of things, but definitely not a snack.
02:24What do you mean, no?
02:38Yeah, now I'm intrigued. We have some sticks and some balls of rice with cheese. And they promised
02:44us we'd get some snacks out of this. Is that even possible?
02:52You have to take a little piece of dough, about the size of a ping pong ball for example,
02:58and with slightly wet hands, you roll it into a ball. Then you can stretch it out into sticks,
03:03like I'm going to do, or you can make them into ball shapes. Let your imagination run wild.
03:10Make whatever shape you fancy or think people will like best.
03:16Just make sure to place it on baking paper or a silicone mat so they come off easily.
03:23You can shape them however you want. Rings, sticks, balls. Just try to make sure that the ones you put
03:30in the pan are roughly the same thickness. That way, you'll ensure they all brown evenly.
03:38You can make them in the oven, in an air fryer, or like me, in a pan with a splash
03:44of oil.
03:45Just make sure to set up a plate with plenty of paper towels so that once they're fried and you
03:50place them
03:50down, they stay nice and crispy because the excess oil will soak into the paper.
03:57Everything is underway now, which is what I like. What I don't like is what comes next, having to wait.
04:05And remember to flip them once they start getting golden brown. Depending on the shape,
04:10they might take a bit more or a bit less time. Mind you, the thinner they are, the crispier they'll
04:18turn out.
04:20Another important trick is that if you make them in a skillet, don't crowd them too much so they don't
04:26stick together. And as you can see, you can even mix shapes, making them round and also oblong.
04:33Then, transfer them to the bowl you want to serve them in. Remember to line it with paper towels and
04:39enjoy.
04:47And the moment the truth has arrived. Can this snack compete with potato chip?
04:55Time to find out!
05:07Well, I've got to admit, it's pretty good.
05:10That said,
05:13as an everyday meal,
05:14better than potato chips from a bag.
05:19I'm not so sure about that anymore.
05:21Because potato chips from a bag, you just buy them and simply open them, like this.
05:27It takes a bit more time, but hey, if you have leftover rice,
05:31you have some cheese and you want to use it up,
05:33then for that it's definitely a good option.
05:39And now?
05:40It's your turn. I hope you let me know.
05:45If you're going with the cheese snacks
05:50or if you're sticking with traditional potato chips.
05:54And today?
06:01Fine.
06:01Life is a newplanet.
06:01Of course you won't ever helps me share what you would do with,
