00:00Colorado has already recorded 10 bear attacks this year, the most on record.
00:03So what can you actually do to avoid one?
00:06Well, two of the latest attacks happen in places you might feel safe.
00:09A woman was bitten through her tent and a teenager was scratched after a bear got into her bedroom.
00:14Western wildlife experts say drought is reducing bears' natural food supply,
00:17pushing them to search harder for food, sometimes closer to people.
00:21So make sure you're bear-proofing your space.
00:23If you're camping, never keep food, drinks, or even scented toiletries like toothpaste or sunscreen in your tent.
00:28Store them away from where you sleep.
00:31At home, secure your trash, take down bird feeders while bears are active,
00:34and keep bear-accessible windows and doors closed and locked.
00:38If you come face-to-face with a bear, don't run.
00:40If you see a brown bear, act non-threatening.
00:42And if it's a black bear, CPW says stand your ground.
00:46Make noise and have bear spray ready.
