MVP season loading...? Josh Allen: The NFL's best player right now?
Allen is operating at the peak of his powers- 5 total TDs against DET, for the former MVP. Are Buffalo Bills the clear-cut favorite in the AFC East?
Transcript
00:00That's five touchdowns on the week after he was responsible for four touchdowns.
00:06That's the team.
00:07I addressed all of this during Thoughts on the Doc this morning, Curtis, on my Instagram.
00:11But that's the team that our guy Boomer Siason had heading to the Super Bowl, the Detroit Lions.
00:18And doesn't it make you – and I am hoping it's an anomaly week one for the New England Patriots.
00:25And it's – I mean, it's a couple weeks away, but that's the team you've got to have your eyes
00:30on if you're the Patriots.
00:31Josh Allen, man, I tell you what, it's like watching the things that he's able to do.
00:37And granted, I told you, because of his greatest superpower being able to make some crazy plays,
00:43he'll give you some opportunities as a defense to get your hands on footballs.
00:47But he is so talented in the things that he's able to do and just – like, you've got to
00:53be –
00:53when you're a quarterback and you can put the team on your back like that.
00:58And it was, what, 28-7 with two minutes to go in the first half.
01:02I was like, yeah, this game's a wrap.
01:04It is so enjoyable watching him play.
01:07Like, how quiet he is.
01:09Like, his game is fast.
01:10He's got the best arm in the NFL.
01:12He's got an unbelievable presence about him.
01:15But it's like you have the great opening of that stadium with Bruce Smith
01:19and you have all this fireworks.
01:22Did you appreciate the Canadian anthem or is that bothersome to you?
01:27I hope they charged more with the tariff.
01:29I know you're a huge Barenaked Ladies fan.
01:31I love Barenaked Ladies.
01:32And so they did a pretty good job with it, I thought.
01:34I mean, if I had a million dollars, I would have been in Buffalo.
01:36All right.
01:37But, no, I thought the whole pregame was great.
01:39The over-the-top fawning over Pagula, the owner with the suit.
01:43Like, can we get, like, 16 live shots of him with the Chardonnay?
01:46Like, that was a little much.
01:47Also, are you just allowed to drop S-bombs and F-bombs on Amazon?
01:51Yes.
01:52Is that the way?
01:52Okay.
01:52Bezos set that up.
01:53That's an old man question.
01:56I just, I mean, there's children watching.
01:57It's a streamer.
01:58I mean, it was 9 o'clock at night.
02:00Dan Campbell with the S-bomb at halftime.
02:02Like, I mean, can he control your language?
02:05But anyway, yes.
02:05But I just, Josh Allen, we're watching a guy that's going to be a Hall of Fame
02:10quarterback at the peak of his powers.
02:12And he is the best player in the NFL right now.
02:16Just awesome.
02:17And I thought that they weren't talented enough around him, but he's so great.
02:20He's in that Mahomes, Peyton, Brady area where he's elevating guys around him.
02:25And the Bills are going to be, they're the overwhelming favorite now to win the A.
02:28Yeah, I mean, James Cook did a good job.
02:30That's Kincaid, you know, Shakir.
02:34You know, it's not like they have these all pros around them.
02:38But to Curtis's point, he just is able to make so many things happen.
02:42That one run where he almost basically almost got it in.
02:45And then I think he ends up quarterback sneaking it.
02:48But the run before that, it's just like, just shows you how tough and talented he is.
02:52I also think it shows you how much more talented Josh Allen is.
02:55And close your ears, Shime, because I'm going to talk about Drake here.
02:59Because when DJ Moore goes down, it doesn't completely change the way people are viewing
03:04this Bills offense.
03:06Like, week one, all of a sudden, we started panicking because our number one receiver
03:12goes down, DJ Moore goes down, everyone's like, eh, okay, Josh Allen will still be fine.
03:15Well, that's what we were talking about.
03:18We've been talking about, I think, the expectations for Drake May is to obviously not be Josh Allen,
03:25but be the type of quarterback that if you lose a player, Drake May is good enough to put
03:32the team on his back and be able to elevate.
03:34And now, granted, it's only week one, obviously, you know, part of that is play calling.
03:39A lot of that is Drake May's performance.
03:42But I think that that's what you expect to see out of a player like Drake May moving forward
03:47so young, because everybody talks about, you know, Josh here in his second year or Josh
03:51Allen in his second year or his third year.
03:53Your expectations are like, all right, Drake, you're way further ahead of Josh Allen early
04:00in his career based on what you've been able to do.
04:03Well, after that last night, I may lean in your direction when it comes to a must win
04:08on Sunday for the New England Patriots.
04:10And it is a Patriots Friday all day here on Boston Sports Original, WEEI, as the Patriots
04:17get ready for Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers.
04:21And we will talk to Robert Spillane coming up at seven on this morning's show.
04:26And it seems like he is good to go.
04:29And it seems like Travion Henderson also good to go when it comes to Sunday.
04:34So a lot to talk about when it comes to that game and a Red Sox win last night.
04:42However, they have lost Wilson Contreras for a little bit, it seems like.
04:47And Courtney reported on that to start the show during the feed.
04:51But thank God the x-rays were negative, though, because when he got hit, he looked like he
04:56was in.
04:57Obviously, it's going to hurt.
04:58But I thought that I was like, he's done for the season.
05:01Like, that's it.
05:01That's that's a wrap.
05:02Yeah.
05:03So, I mean, you want you want all hands on deck.
05:06Just don't send him to Portland or Worcester when he's rehabbing, because God knows the
05:11pine tar might be an issue.
05:13Well, you could probably bring your own.
05:15Can can you bring pine tar across state lines?
05:18I don't know.
05:19Where do you stand on the BYOB?
05:21Bring your own bottle of wine to a nice little seaside hamlet.
05:24I don't like it.
05:25I'm not really a fan of it.
05:27I'm not really a fan of it.
05:29They upcharge you when you're looking at bottles of wine at a restaurant.
05:33Bringing your own.
05:33It's actually a very financially smart.
05:36Yeah.
05:37Bring your own liquor.
05:38In this economy.
05:39In this economy.
05:39It's a good move in this economy.
05:40Especially you.
05:41Who Ernie gives like these thousand dollar bottles of wine to.
05:45I'd be taking those to every restaurant.
05:46I never drink them.
05:47I'm saving them for a special occasion.
05:51In this economy.
05:52A bottle of Syrah costs you $70, $80 in a liquor store.
05:56You go to any club and it's $500 for.
06:01Well, that's the way they do it.
06:02A drink will cost $20.
06:03Yeah.
06:03You've got to stop going out and getting those bottles.
06:05I mean, I don't do that.
06:07Shoot.
06:07If I'm going out and somebody's getting a section, believe me.
06:11I happen to be, you know, like just piggybacking off that person.
