00:03He steps out of bounds, but not before he gets inside the 35.
00:09A big play there for Cincinnati.
00:1341 yards.
00:14Despite writing it down on my notes, I never give enough credit to the offensive line.
00:18And we have to here.
00:20The protection, that's what made this play a success.
00:23Quarterback had to wait for his crossing line to develop.
00:26And that takes a little bit of extra time.
00:29That's a good job by the big fellas up front.
00:32That one came up just a little bit short.
00:33I'm wondering, is it still a little bit tight as this game starts?
00:37What would you say?
00:38Maybe he's going to take the governor off of it?
00:40Or maybe the donut off the baseball bat like the guys on that circle?
00:44I like that.
00:45Yeah, just take that little extra weight off of him and start to play freely.
00:49They'll give this out the middle to Brown.
00:51And he struggles to get a yard here, maybe a yard right down at the 31.
00:56He's looking for a good level two play sequence there.
00:58Are you foreseeing completion and a very short pickup?
01:01Yeah, now maybe bring in an extra defensive back or two
01:03because you want to try to defend on third down.
01:05They like to play those nickel or sub packages, don't they?
01:08They've got to get to the 23 here on third.
01:12Burrow throw.
01:22They're able to convert on third down, and that sets up a first of gold.
01:27Oh, that's a shot.
01:28And now Kellen Moore not thrilled with that last call.
01:31And out comes the red challenge flag.
01:34Previous play is under review.
01:38Did he keep those feet in bounds?
01:40That's the question they've got to decide.
01:42And I've got to say, watching it in real time, it was awfully close.
01:46Yeah, it certainly looked like a heck of a catch
01:48because he didn't appear to bobble it, which could complicate things.
01:52But even with the benefit of replay, that's pretty tight.
01:55Well, here's the call.
01:57After review of the play, the ruling on the field stands.
02:00Well, the challenge there does not go their way.
02:02This will indeed remain a completed pass.
02:08From the two, here's first and goal.
02:15Out of the gun, it's Burrow.
02:18And the timing a bit off that time was that when Farrowson Brown.
02:22You know, he's talking about receivers.
02:24If the ball hits your hand, you're supposed to haul it in.
02:27But it is hard to adjust to a pass, throw it a little bit behind you.
02:30That one was all the momentum going forward.
02:33Couldn't contort his body back to grab it.
02:36Second and goal, and they will try again from the two-yard line.
02:41Here's Burrow setting up to throw it.
02:43And he'll take this into the end zone for Bengal TD.
02:49Mike Gisicki.
02:50A two-yard touchdown grab.
02:53And the Bengals put the Knights' first points on the board as they take the early lead.
03:01Both sides of the football in sync early.
03:03You force the three and out, and then you take it down and score points.
03:06You know what that tells me?
03:07They sold their game plan really well.
03:09Head coach said, listen, we're just going to stop them on three and out.
03:11We're going to take the ball downfield and score.
03:13But he also told them how it was going to happen.
03:15They're going to run this.
03:16We're going to stop it, and we're going to take the ball.
03:19They won't be able to keep up with us.
03:20And they got it done.
03:25An extra point by McPherson, up and good.
03:28And it's now a 7-0 game.
03:32So that drives seven plays in length.
03:35And it all concluded with a touchdown pass to the tight end, Mike Gisicki.
04:02After the touchdown, McPherson on to kick this one away.
04:11Oh, a good return up past the 30.
04:14And he nearly broke back for Moore, but as it is, still a good return.
04:18They'll start the drive right around the 37.
04:21New Orleans Saints, they get ready to set up shop for their second drive.
04:26And on the first drive, three and out.
04:28And I know that these are professional athletes,
04:31but I would imagine sometimes you get the nerves at the beginning of a game still, don't you?
04:35Those don't ever go away.
04:37And typically, what I've heard from guys and what I remember from playing,
04:40if you don't have nerves at the start of a game, it's not going to be a great day for
04:44you.
04:44You're not really ready to play.
04:46So tell me where to harness those nerves and not let them affect you in a negative way.
04:50That's what all the guys are looking for.
04:53You'll get a nice chunk there on the first down run, and it's second and four.
04:57It's time for them to be good teammates right here.
04:59And what I mean by that is, we possess the ball for a little while, get at least two first
05:04downs,
05:04get their defense chance to settle down a little bit after they give up a touchdown.
05:09Kamara gets it again on second down.
05:12And he is in his tracks behind the line.
05:16Call that a loss of a yard, and things get a little more difficult here, third and five.
05:21Sometimes you just sit back and marvel at what he can do defensively.
05:25Speed, strength, quickness.
05:27He's the whole package, and that package just wrapped up the runner for a loss.
05:34Now Rattler.
05:36And the whiffies went underneath to Kamara.
05:39And he is going to have a Saints first down as they're able to get the third one conversion.
05:45That's good.
05:46For a Saints.
05:50I'm not sure that that was necessarily a safety valve for a check down throw on third down.
05:54Sometimes you try to find the open guy and get him the ball.
05:57He did exactly that, and found a way to pick up a first down.
06:08Off the play fake, it's Rattler.
06:10The back of pressure gets him that time, and there he goes.
06:15Trey Hendrickson showing his pass rush repertoire that time.
06:20Talked down with up to bad acting, I guess, because they certainly failed to sell the handoff,
06:25and the pressure stayed keyed in on the quarterback.
06:27No Oscar awards for this offense, just a loss of yardage.
06:38Got to assume this defense will be charging again here.
06:42It's second and 15.
06:44Throwing is Rattler.
06:48Oh, the RPO will keep it himself.
06:51All in all, no gain on the play, and it'll bring up third.
06:56But one of the things we talked about coming into this one is that we're never going to question
06:59the fight that he's going to have for all four quarters of the game.
07:02But ideally, you want to fight him for big plays and first downs early,
07:06not fighting just to get back to the line of scrimmage, as we saw right there.
07:34I think when they look at their offense, they think to themselves, weapons, weapons everywhere,
07:38and they want to move the ball around.
07:40They want to spread it to different people.
07:41But you absolutely know they want to get this man involved as well,
07:45and that's what they just did on that play.
07:50They'll fake the give, and here's Rattler.
07:53And down he goes.
07:56They sag it back right around the 41-yard line.
08:01They'll wind up losing eight on the sack there, and it's second down.
08:06And that is the third sack this offensive line has allowed this first quarter.
08:11That puts him on pace.
08:12Let me do the rudimentary math here.
08:14To be sacked 12 times in a game, I know he's not going to go for that.
08:18I wonder if it's going to reshape what they decide to do on offense in terms of play.
08:22And I'll tell you what, when he popped up, shaking his head, frustrated right now behind center.
08:27It's the first time that they've looked his way tonight,
08:29and he comes on for the first down of the play.
08:32And that's a more than acceptable read right there because it's so good coverage.
08:36So timing is everything.
08:37This time he waits for his man to come open, puts it right on him,
08:41and they pick up a first down.
08:46Now a first down carry.
08:48It's Kamara.
08:49Now he is going to be stopped curled behind the line of scrimmage.
08:54Across the line and to the ball quickly there, Trey Hendricks in.
08:58And our statistician Ben Ramsey just held up three fingers to remind me
09:03he now has three tackles for a loss rolling in the first quarter.
09:06Well, Ben's got it detailed perfectly.
09:07He always gives us the right stats.
09:09I'd love to be...
