00:00What's up guys, I'm Erdi, the creative director of Journey Gods Nerja.
00:04In this video, our producer Yang and I are excited to share with you some of the unique concepts and
00:09designs we've been working on for the project.
00:12Journey Gods Nerja is a Chinese superhero story.
00:16The whole world is actually the dead body of giant Pangu, a myth that shows up in lots of cultures,
00:22but we made it something you can see and feel.
00:25Nerja, the spirit pale goes up against massive gods, monsters and even the planet itself.
00:31In our levels, that scale isn't just for show, it changes the net scale, the fights and how you explore.
00:38We are even building a huge moving level that travels across the map.
00:43And depending on whether it's moving, still or different location, you get a totally different experience each time.
00:51For combat in Journey Gods Nerja, we are talking about gods against each other.
00:56Fight sets go everywhere, not just on the ground.
00:59Aerial combat isn't just jumping up and landing a hit.
01:03There will be a totally different system.
01:05That means we are borrowing from fighting games, introducing mix-ups, race and neutral game.
01:12It also means enemies need air moves.
01:14The ground is where you start, but the sky is where the real action is.
01:19With good rays and clear inputs, you can stay up there and chain combos that never touch the floor.
01:25Both Nerja and Monkey King are Chinese mythological icons.
01:29But Wukong relies a single weapon and stuff, like a real Kung Fu master.
01:34Nerja on the other hand, using multiple relics for different situations.
01:38In our latest design, Nerja's seven relics, the Fire Spear, Unbreakable Rings, Wind Wells, the Nine Dragon Fire Prison, the
01:48Red Law Soul, the Golden Brick and the Train Swords all merged from her armor.
01:52When she switches, a part of her armor physically transforms into that relic, while making sure that looks cool and
01:59works like masses conserved.
02:01Her major weapons, the Fire Spear and Bare Handed Combat, work in tandem with these relics.
02:08They don't just change the combo branches and special moves.
02:12They really help you solve puzzles in the levels too.
02:15For instance, the Red Lasso chains gravity between things it has together.
02:19The Golden Brick might be about math and wealth.
02:22We want relics to feel fun, flexible and real.
02:26Like they just make sense the moment you use them.
02:32In Chinese myth, Nerja is the ultimate rebel.
02:36He literally tore his own body apart, gave it back to his parents, and said,
02:42I don't own your thing, everything I am is mine.
02:45That kind of fighting attitude shows up everywhere in our old stories.
02:53Everyone knows Monkey King, he is famous.
02:55But the next famous global Chinese hero is already a real person, Guan Yu.
03:00So we thought, why not remake Nerja?
03:03We went all the way back to the beginning, before she became the male Nerja from the investiture of the
03:08gods.
03:09Back then, she was the very first park of life forged by the godness of life, Min Wan in her
03:14own image, from the essence of earth, water and fire.
03:19In many Chinese folk tales, we call her Spirit Pale.
03:22When the Monkey King started under his master, Patriarch Bodhi, all he wanted was to live forever.
03:29But Nerja, she saw it differently.
03:32She chose to end her flesh, and found a whole new kind of rebirth.
03:38So in this game, we want to dig for what connects us, culturally, emotionally.
03:44That's really why we are telling this story.
03:46That's why we built this character the way we did.
03:50Finally, I want to say this.
03:52We cast Nerja just born into a world that is a chrism.
03:56She is the first human, but no new life has come into this world for a long, long time.
04:03Let her find her way.
04:05Make her choices.
04:06In the end, I don't know if she will become truly human or something else entirely.
04:12And we want to leave that choice to the players.
04:15At last, thanks for your watching.
04:17Hope you guys like Nerja.
