Anger over Thaçi war crimes sentence spills into protests at Kosovo EU mission

Thousands who had gathered in Prishtina expecting an acquittal dispersed in silence after the Kosovo Specialist Chambers found the former president guilty of murder, torture and illegal detention, but some clashed with riot police outside the EU mission later in the day.

00:16Kosovo Liberation Army leaders guilty of illegal arrests, torture, murder, and cruel treatment
00:22during the 1998 war for independence from Serbia and sentenced them to 25 years in prison.
00:28Among many Kosovo Albanians, Tachi and his co-defendants are still widely hailed as heroes
00:34of the independence movement, and their simmering anger threatened to escalate into full-fledged

00:39In Pristina, a crowd of young men marched towards the headquarters of the European Union's rule
00:45of law mission in Kosovo, waving KLA flags and chanting the guerrilla group's name.
00:51Some scuffled with riot police and threw stones at the building, and a small group remained
00:55in front of the building until Wednesday night, blocking traffic and defying police orders
