00:46five sources familiar with the matter

00:48say U.S. officials met Houthi representatives

00:50in Muscat over the weekend.

00:53The meeting was reportedly held

00:55at the U.S. Embassy in Oman,

00:57and two sources say Oman's government,

01:00which has long acted as a regional mediator,

01:03helped arrange the talks.

01:04But what makes this meeting particularly significant

01:07is who was at the table

01:09and what the Houthis reportedly promised.

01:13Two sources say Houthi representatives

01:15told U.S. officials

01:17they had no intention of attacking American vessels

01:20and that they remained committed

01:22to the ceasefire reached with Washington in 2025.

01:26One Yemeni source also said the Houthis indicated

01:30they would not attack Israeli ships

01:32or commercial vessels,

01:34with one reported exception,

01:36ships belonging to Saudi Arabia.

01:38That is a significant detail

01:40because the Houthis in Saudi Arabia

01:43are once again locked in a dangerous escalation.

01:46The Houthi movement has fought Saudi-backed forces

01:49in Yemen for more than a decade.

01:51And now, according to Reuters,

01:53the Houthis have seized effective control

01:56of Yemen's entire Red Sea coastline,

01:58including the historic port of Mocha

02:01and Parham Island in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

02:05The Bab al-Mandeb is one of the world's

02:07strategically important maritime choke points,

02:10connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden.

02:12So the latest Houthi advances

02:15are not just about territory.

02:17They have direct implications

02:18for shipping and regional security.

02:21And this is where the U.S. becomes involved.

02:24The Trump administration designated the Houthis

02:27a foreign terrorist organization in March 2025.

02:31Yet Washington has continued to negotiate with the group.

02:34The U.S. and Houthis reached a ceasefire in May 2025

02:38after American forces conducted weeks of strikes

02:41against Houthi positions in response to attacks

02:44on Red Sea shipping.

02:46Now the two sides appear to have reopened a direct channel.

02:50One source says the latest meeting took place on Sunday.

02:54The Houthi delegation reportedly included

02:56senior official Muhammad Abdul Salam,

02:59who was under U.S. sanctions,

03:01along with another senior Houthi official,

03:04Abdel Malik Al-Ajiri.

03:06Reuters says the U.S. side

03:08was represented by embassy personnel.

03:10But Washington is not publicly confirming the meeting.

03:13A State Department spokesperson declined to comment

03:16on the specific reported talks,

03:18while saying freedom of navigation in the Red Sea

03:21and preventing the export of terrorism

03:23from the Middle East remain core U.S. interests.

03:26And there is another major development behind these talks.

03:31Saudi Arabia is now facing renewed pressure

03:33from the Houthi advance.

03:35Reuters reports that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman

03:39spoke with President Trump last week

03:41and sought U.S. military support.

03:44But Washington reportedly told Riyadh

03:46it would not directly intervene.

03:49So on one side,

03:51the Houthis are expanding their control

03:53along a critical Red Sea corridor.

03:55On the other,

03:56Saudi Arabia is seeking American support.

03:59And in the middle,

04:00the United States is talking directly

04:03to the Houthis through Oman.

04:05For now,

04:06the reported message from the Houthis

04:07is that American vessels will not be targeted

04:10and the 2025 U.S. ceasefire remains intact.

04:14But with fighting having resumed

04:16between Houthi and Saudi-backed forces,

04:18and with the Houthis now controlling

04:21strategically important stretches

04:22of Yemen's Red Sea coast,
