00:00Hello with the National Weather Forecast, taking a look at how we're ending the working week.
00:03That's the forecast for Friday the 18th of September.
00:07Starting off first with the national picture, and straight away we can see a very large and dominant high pressure
00:11system
00:12centred over southern parts of New South Wales.
00:15Clear skies overnight does mean morning fog and frost that will lift to a mostly sunny and mild to warm
00:20day
00:20across the east and the southeast of the country.
00:23For Tasmania though, with an approaching cold front, it will become windy with showers picking up later in the afternoon
00:27and into the evening.
00:29For Western Australia, that heat does come to an abrupt end as a cold front sweeps across southern parts of
00:34the state
00:34bringing showers and thunderstorms with those colder winds from Friday night as well as into Saturday morning.
00:40For Northern Australia, those southeast winds keep pushing showers onto coastal areas
00:44but away from the coast we are expecting hot conditions to continue with elevated fire dangers right across the north
00:50of the country.
00:51So now a state-by-state look starting off with Queensland.
00:53We'll see some patchy morning showers in the southeast that will clear to a mostly sunny day.
00:57Showers also for coastal areas north of Rockhampton, and most likely about the northeastern tropical coast there.
01:04Otherwise, with those easterly winds, we are expecting a warm day, high fire dangers across the west and the northwest
01:09of the state,
01:10otherwise looking to be mostly dry.
01:12For Brisbane, partly cloudy, top of 25 degrees, and a couple of showers up in Cairns with a maximum of
01:1727.
01:18Now looking at New South Wales, we will see some patchy morning fog and frost through inland areas.
01:22Maybe also the chance of a light shower about the northeastern coast, but with the westerly winds picking up,
01:27we will see a sunny day.
01:28Temperatures are on the rise, reaching the mid to high 20s for many locations,
01:32and we are expecting to see high fire danger across the Hunter region.
01:35For Sydney, a sunny day, 23 degrees, a little bit of a cooler start, particularly for western Sydney.
01:40And for Canberra, morning fog and frost, but a mostly sunny day to follow, a top of 22 degrees.
01:45Over in Victoria, we are expecting patchy morning fog and frost, mainly north of the divide,
01:50that will lift to a mostly sunny day.
01:52Temperatures reaching the low to mid 20s, and it will be a dry day right across the state.
01:56Windy though along the coast, and those winds will pick up as you head into the afternoon and evening
02:00with an approaching cold front.
02:02Otherwise, for some of those centres, Melbourne, patchy morning fog and frost through the outer suburbs,
02:06going for 22 degrees and a mostly sunny afternoon to follow.
02:09Warm in Mildura, 25 degrees after a pretty cool start there.
02:12Now to Tasmania, it will be a mostly dry start, just a few showers about the west coast,
02:16but it will be very windy.
02:18We do have a severe weather warning for damaging winds, that also includes Hobart.
02:22And then from the afternoon, as that cold front approaches, showers pick up across the west and the south of
02:26the state,
02:27and extend across many districts, and we will see much colder air coming through into the evening.
02:32Quite a mild day before that cold front comes through though.
02:34Hobart reaching 20 degrees with late showers, and up into the high teens across the northwest of the state.
02:39Now across the South Australia, the sunshine continues, because here's some patchy frost across the southeast,
02:45but the northerly winds push temperatures up into the low to mid-20s in the south,
02:49and the high 20s across northern parts of the state.
02:52Adelaide, a sunny day, 22 degrees there, and reaching 29 degrees up in Moomba, and across northern parts of South
02:58Australia.
02:58Over in the west, we will see those hot northerly winds bring the temperatures up about 10 degrees above average
03:04for the south coast,
03:06also quite warm into the goldfields.
03:07With that trough there, we could see some patchy showers and afternoon thunderstorms ahead of that cold front,
03:12which will bring another band of showers and thunderstorms, as well as gusty winds from the afternoon and into the
03:17evening.
03:18So for Perth, partly cloudy to start, showers picking up from the afternoon, with cooler westerly winds as we head
03:23into the weekend.
03:23But further north, it will be a hot day across the Gascoyne and the Pilbara.
03:28Finally, for northern Australia, we will see a couple of showers about the Gulf Coast, as well as the northern
03:32coast of the Kimberley.
03:33But with those gusty easterly winds, we will see elevated fire dangers reaching high for many districts,
03:38and extreme fire danger is forecast for the Darwin area, including the possibility of smoke around the metro area.
03:44Quite a hot day as well to reaching the mid to high 30s across the Kimberley.
03:48Darwin, sunny with a top of 34 degrees.
