00:02The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Tuesday that Tesla must answer questions
00:06by September 30 about how it self-certified its cybercab robotaxi for federal safety standards,
00:12according to Reuters.
00:13The agency wants to know whether Tesla relied on temporarily installed human driver controls
00:17or other equipment during certification.
00:20NHTSA also asked whether cybercabs can be driven by humans and whether occupants can
00:25move the vehicles through touchscreen controls.
00:27The agency is seeking details about maximum speeds, geographic limits, time of day restrictions,
00:32and other operating constraints.
00:33Tesla began commercial deployment of a small number of cybercabs in Austin on September 3.
00:38The vehicles lacked conventional controls, including steering wheels, brake pedals, and
00:42accelerator pedals.
00:43Tesla did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.
