00:00If someone offered you better exchange rates than your bank and almost no fees, would you take it?
00:06Well, criminal networks are counting on just that, and now AI is helping to make money laundering
00:11faster and harder to detect. A new FATF OECD report warns underground financial networks are
00:19increasingly using new technology. One example is Hawala, an informal money transfer system
00:25widely used across the Middle East, South Asia, and parts of Africa. You give money to an
00:30intermediary. Another pays the recipient somewhere else. The intermediaries settle the balance
00:35separately. Hawala itself can be completely legitimate, but criminals also exploit underground
00:41versions of these networks. They're using digital wallets, encrypted messages, crypto, and AI
00:47tools. And for investigators, that makes following the money much harder.
