00:35Scottish football is never dull, but sometimes the pundits are.
00:39James McFadden joins me as we bring you the best of tonight's three games.
00:44It's been a tough start to the season for Falkirk, who are without a win in the Premiership.
00:48And tonight's opponents, Hearts, hadn't lost at the Falkirk Stadium on League Business since 2008.
00:56Hearts' rebuild has been largely seamless so far.
01:00They're nine unbeaten and on a run of four straight league wins.
01:03There's a League Cup semi-final and Conference League football to boot for Wouter, Vrankin and Cole.
01:09Falkirk, meanwhile, have brought in 17 new faces and are searching for their first league win as all of those
01:15players take time to settle in.
01:17Falkirk goalkeeper Scott Bain is in Sebastian Pocconioli's first Scotland squad as John McGlynn names an unchanged team from the
01:25draw at Tannadice 10 days ago,
01:27when Jacob Murrell became the first Falkirk player to score in the league this season.
01:32Well, injury and now illness to Thomas Magnussen of depleted Hearts midfield option such that Jan Danda makes his first
01:38start for the club since May 2025,
01:41having come off the bench to score against Stenhouse-Muir on Friday.
01:45Scotland call-ups, Josh McPake and James Wilson are part of the returning cavalry from that League Cup win at

03:14and really, with their first shot, Hearts have drawn level.

03:25but Milne finds McPake one-on-one, and we know what that means most of the time.

03:34and James Wilson does what he's done all of this season so far,

07:59They have their first Premiership victory of the season.
08:02And it was thoroughly deserved against last season's runners-up.

08:14Get the monkey off the back, as you mentioned there.
08:17And I think that will kick us on now, is just getting that first win.
08:20And we've been gradually getting better.
08:22You know, the window closed and we didn't lose any more players.
08:25And we've got our squad now.
08:26And everyone can relax and just get on with playing football.
08:30And we've seen the fruits of that tonight.
08:33Disappointment, because the performance was poor.
08:36And, yeah, over the whole game, I think second half, when we started second half,
08:41we could turn around a little bit with a big chance.
08:43But, again, when we got the goal, it was all panic.
08:46And it was just not good enough today.
08:48I think they'd done the United game.
08:49We were probably a little bit nervous.
08:52And in terms of wanting to get the win, then we started to defend a little bit too early.
08:56And I think out there, we went toe-to-toe with them.
08:59And in the end, I think that we'd done enough to deserve the win.
09:02And we did get the win.
09:04An entertaining game and a well-end three points for Falkirk.
09:08James, Hart's fallen below the standards that they've set so far this season,
09:12which have been high.
09:13But no doubt Falkirk were the winners.
09:15Yeah, they were.
09:16I think that, you know, you listen to John McGlynn and Scott Bain both speaking about how important getting the
09:21victory was.
09:21I listened to John before the game saying exactly what type of game it was going to be.
09:26Two teams that wanted to attack.
09:27It was going to be about who was better in the transitions.
09:30I think Falkirk were better.
09:32And they managed to see it out.
09:33Second half, they performed really well.
09:36But when you're not winning games, it's difficult then to go over the line.
09:40So they deserve enormous credit for managing to get it over the line.
09:43They do.
09:43Josh McPake criticised for Falkirk's first goal in terms of his positional sense.
09:49But he showed his qualities going forward after that with his contribution for creating opportunities and obviously an assist.
09:54Yeah, he did.
09:54I mean, look, from Falkirk's point of view, I think it's a really good goal because Brad Spencer, no pressure
10:00on the ball.
10:01Strain makes a brilliant run off the back of Josh McPake.
10:05And you're wondering how he's in so much space.
10:08And we'll see it in a minute.
10:09It's a lovely finish as well.
10:11Really good goal from Falkirk's point of view, exploiting the space.
10:15But you look at Josh McPake's position here, you know, Hearts are narrow as a back four because Ethan Ross
10:21is affecting Harry Milne.
10:23Josh McPake sees Strain all the way and he just switches off for a moment.
10:27He does then try and recover to get back.
10:29He does, to be fair to him.
10:31But that moment of switching off has, you know, cost Hearts.
10:35There's still a lot for him to do when he gets the ball.
10:37But this is the side of, you know, Josh McPake's game that's, you know, earned him a deserved call up
10:42to the Scotland squad because he's a player that can make a difference.
10:45You know, he just shifts this really quick.
10:47And what I like is it's the end product.
10:50You know, you look at wide players and a lot of them are afraid to take players on and be
10:55creative.
10:55He isn't.
10:56He's happy to go down the outside.
10:57He's happy to come inside and get his shot away or pick a pass.
11:01And he's really grown over the last couple of years as a player, Josh McPake.
11:05Particularly last season, the Championship for St Johnson.
11:07Done on wonders.
11:08He's got his good move to Hearts and he's been excellent this season.
11:12And this is where you want to see him affecting the game.
11:16He's more than happy to go on his left.
11:18The temptation there...
11:19By the way, that took a bobble when it was on the Astro.
11:21It did.
11:22But the temptation there for McPake is to shift and get a shot away.
11:25But he's got the presence of mind to get his head up, pick out Wilson.
11:28And it does bobble in front.
11:29And I know people will say, that's so tough.
11:31A Spanish correspondent, Alistair Lament, was trying to take that goal away from him.
11:35James Wilson, the tap-in.
11:36He thought on radio that it was...
11:38Yeah, I heard him say that.
11:41But that's exactly where you want your striker to be.
11:43His goal ratio so far this season is brilliant.
11:45It's sensational again.
11:46Also in the Scotland squad.
11:47We'll chat about that a wee bit later.
11:49Owen Ames, he missed a great chance.
11:52But he made amends.
11:53He goes through again and it's actually a lovely finish.
11:56He did.
11:56And he had a great energy about him in the second half.
11:59He spoke about the two teams wanting to be more attacking.
12:05Actually, Hearts were really slack with the ball in the second half.
12:09And Owen Ames was capitalising on it.
12:11He was getting himself into positions.
12:13He probably should have had a couple more.
12:15Harry Milne here, I mean, it's such a poor pass.
12:19But there's still a lot for him to do.
12:21He still has to go and then find the back of the net, which he does.
12:24Because Hearts...
12:25There was a few occasions to meet when they were really lax on the ball.
12:30And giveaways, cheap giveaways.
12:31There was.
12:32Falkert had really loads of chances in the second half.
12:35It really could have been a lot more.
12:36But that was probably indicative of Hearts' performance.
12:41So slack from Harry Milne.
12:43He's been outstanding for Hearts.
12:44But it's a blind pass.
12:46And when you open up your body, your accuracy then, it's not as high.
12:52And Falkert, to be fair to them, are aggressiveness.
12:54They're in the press and they're going to capitalise on it.
12:55And as John McGlynn said, they've got to try and kick on from that now.
12:58Because they have played well in all the games that I've watched this season.
13:01Most of them anyway, they've played well.
13:02But they just, as you said, couldn't go over a line tonight.
13:04They have done with a really strong performance.
13:07It's about building that.
13:07It is.
13:08And I think that performances have been good.
13:09It's a new team.
13:10They've lost a lot of key players.
13:12But John McGlynn's shown, you know, in terms of performance,
13:14that he's the manager that can turn that round.
13:17They have to kick on from this, there's no doubt.

13:20Hibs and Kelly had contrasting weekend results in the League Cup.
13:23They faced off this evening with Kelly looking for that first win
13:26at Easter Road since 2014.
13:30Here's some facts for you.
13:32Hibs have lost the last five home league games stretching back to April.
13:36But they've not lost to Kilmarnock here in the League since May 2014.
13:39The real fact, both teams desperately need a win.
13:45David Gray makes just one change from the side.

21:24because we've lost the game again at home with the pressure and everything that's on the game
21:28and where we want to be competing.

21:33My God, they kept going tonight and showed that there's a wee bit of steel in there as well.
21:37Get ourselves two up, it's taken away from us.
21:40And the Stonewall penalty on Joe-Hugel, would have been a red card, don't get it.

21:47And then we've come to a really difficult place to come, East the Road.
21:50It was the first time in maybe 12 years or so since we've won here.
21:54So, yeah, nobody can say we didn't deserve it.

22:03They were outstanding tonight.
22:04Neil McCann and his team have taken some sticks since the start of the season, let's be honest.
22:07And that was impressive.
22:09And not just in terms of their attacking play, but their togetherness, as Neil referenced,
22:14towards the end of the match when Hibsburg, their home game, putting them under pressure.
22:18They stuck together, defended really well.
22:20Yeah, they've had stick and they've conceded a lot of goals.
22:23And at times they've been too open.
22:25The chances in the game where when they don't go in, you're looking at a team that hasn't been winning
22:31games
22:32and saying, could this go against you?
22:35But then they show the other side.
22:36That steal, that determination to go and get the three points.
22:40And Neil McCann's spot on.
22:41It was fully deserved.
22:42No one can complain about Camarnot winning that game tonight.

22:46Kelly had a pen claim right before their actual goal from the resulting corner kick.
22:51What did you think of that penalty claim on Grant Hanley?
22:54I thought it was a penalty.
22:56I think that, you know, Grant kind of turns his body slightly.
23:01The left arm comes out and I think it hits his left arm.
23:05I think he's very fortunate to get away with that.
23:09And from, you know, a Camarnot point of view and Neil McCann's point of view,
23:12he will be disappointed that it hasn't been given,
23:14but at least they then go and get their goal from the resulting corner.
23:20But I think that you see there, I mean, when he turns his body, his arm's outstretched,
23:26it's making himself bigger.
23:28But in the end, it didn't really matter because Camarnot then go and take advantage.
23:34And again, you spoke about, you know, the determination.
23:37Sometimes things go against you and they continue to go against you,
23:41but Camarnot, you know, dusts themselves down.
23:45When I've seen this coming in, I'm looking at Salinger thinking,
23:48can you know just catch that ball?
23:49Can you know just gather it into your body?
23:51But there's so many bodies in front of him that he can't react.
23:55He can't react until it bounces there.
23:59And he's no, it's just a reaction save because he can't gamble.
24:03He has to wait.
24:04Can he push it wider?
24:05Maybe, maybe.
24:06But I think that it comes at him and skids off the surface that quick
24:09that he's just making sure he gets a save and stains her with a nice finish.
24:13And as I said, for Camarnot to then capitalise on the fact
24:16that he didn't get a penalty kick.

24:52Because you look at impact.
24:53This one for me, you see a little shut pull

25:02And then, Camarnot score.
25:04I mean, if this counts, what a pass it is from Greg Kelty.
25:09Hugo on the front foot, like all good strikers
25:12to go and put it in the back of the net.
25:14But when you get a chance to see it again,
25:16there is a few Camarnot players in offside position.
25:19There's a couple of blockers,
25:20but they have no impact on where the ball lands.
25:22But McCarthy does.

25:28And that's why, you know, the goal was ruled out.
