00:00Qatar's warning of catastrophic consequences if another major shipping route is cut off.
00:05This time the concern is around the Bab al-Mandeb Strait,
00:08where Houthi forces have made considerable gains,
00:10while shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains severely disrupted.
00:14Bab al-Mandeb connects the Red Sea with the Indian Ocean
00:17and is a major route for international shipping.
00:20The Houthis have taken two strategic islands in the area,
00:23as fighting in Yemen intensifies.
00:25Qatar says the world cannot afford further disruption to another major waterway.
00:31The world is suffering enough with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz,
00:35so we cannot also afford to add Bab al-Mandeb into that equation.
00:40The whole world is going to suffer, and it's going to be catastrophic for the entire world.
00:45Saudi Arabia has been using its east-west pipeline to bypass Hormuz and move oil to the Red Sea.
00:51But that route has also been disrupted.
00:53The pipeline was shut after drone attacks last week,
00:56and repairs could take three to five weeks.
00:59It has recently been moving roughly four million barrels of oil a day.
01:03Diplomatic efforts are also facing setbacks.
01:05A planned meeting between Iran and Gulf states in Oman has been postponed,
01:10following the latest escalation in Yemen.
01:12So Qatar is pushing for diplomacy, dialogue,
01:15and pushing into the direction of peaceful resolution for these conflicts through dialogue.
01:28Qatar says it is continuing to work with regional and international partners
01:32and keeping channels open with all sides.
