00:04Dolphins. They're highly intelligent creatures, which is why recently many have cried foul when
00:08the marine mammals are kept in captivity for the enjoyment of humans. But if you thought you were
00:13watching a video of such an occasion, you're not. This is a robotic dolphin, and it's what
00:17Edge Innovations, the company behind the automaton, says may be the future compromise for aquariums
00:22wishing to house dolphins. Edge Innovations has been in the animatronics business for years,
00:26primarily working on films requiring animatronic sea animals. But now they've turned their eyes to
00:31conservation, hoping to give back to the animals that have driven their careers in Hollywood.
00:35An easy way to think about it is if your normal day consists of swimming 100 miles in the ocean,
00:41and now you're swimming 75 feet, and that's your entire existence, it's just so unnatural of an
00:49environment. Their goal is to have people see, interact, and swim with robotic dolphins, creating
00:56animals. Humans can bond with the creatures without ever having to pluck one from the ocean or force
01:00them into breeding programs, with Roger Hosberg, the creative director at Edge Innovations, suggesting,
01:05quote, we won't hurt what we fall in love with.
