00:01This is a significant step up in the realism for our SAREX training because
00:05for the first time we'll have real people in a life raft acting as patients
00:09who need to be located and rescued. Mass casualty rescues are vitally
00:14important to practice and having multiple people in a life raft will add
00:18an extra dimension to an already challenging scenario. Well the scenarios
00:24are designed to be as realistic as possible because when a real emergency
00:27happens there is no opportunity to pause and reset. Are ready for any real
00:34emergency? You never know in advance when real emergencies happen so creating an
00:39environment where multiple serious incidents are taking place
00:43simultaneously it just mimics what can and does happen on our waters. Cross agency
00:49relationships as well? Yeah these exercises allow us to put our training into
00:53practice alongside our partner agencies so when the real call comes we can
00:58deliver an efficient and coordinated response.
01:01Shouldn't be worried. Now to members of the public and boaters who see us out there
01:05don't be alarmed we're conducting a controlled exercise. And so what if what
01:11if a real incident happens either at JB or at one of our neighbouring units? The
01:17community can be assured that if a real emergency occurs on our waterways our
01:21rescue craft and crews are ready to respond.
01:26What is it about SAREXes for you? What makes them so important? They are very
01:30important for every member of marine rescue for the simple fact that we can put
01:35into practice what we need to do in a live situation. We are fully trained we
01:42know our duty and how to go about it very professionally.
01:51SAREXes are very important because it tests our whole systems. Everyone that's
01:56involved in them act very professionally and they take it as if it is a real
02:01situation. That way we know where we need extra training and making sure our
02:07systems work. So to undergo a SAREX and being involved with other units allows us to swap
02:16ideas and change things if we need to if we find things that work better for us.
02:25And I suppose the same thing goes with the working with the police and the other emergency
02:31services agencies that you guys can refine how it is you operate together when it is a real situation.
02:37It's a very very important thing that we do work with the police. We know the expectations that they
02:46require from us and it also increases our professionalism. Also that we keep up to date with current systems.
