We know sunscreen helps protect our skin, but for many of us, it's still something we reach for only when we're heading to the beach or spending a long day outside.

00:11Sunshine outdoor adventures, a day at the beach, we love it.
00:14But while we enjoy the warmth of the sun, our skin is taking in ultraviolet or UV radiation.
00:21And that's why sunscreen should be more than just a beach day essential.
00:25Regular exposure to UV rays can contribute to premature skin aging, including wrinkles, fine lines and uneven skin tone.
00:34More importantly, too much UV exposure increases the risk of skin cancer.
00:39So protecting your skin should be part of your daily routine, even on days when you don't plan on spending
00:44hours outside.
00:46When choosing a sunscreen, look for one labeled Broad Spectrum, which helps protect against both UVA and UVB rays.
00:53And an SPF of 30 or higher is generally recommended for everyday use.
00:59And if you're spending extended time outdoors, sunscreen should be reapplied.
01:03Don't forget those easily missed areas to your ears, neck, hands and your instep.
01:09And sunscreen isn't your only defense.
01:12Hats, sunglasses, protective clothing and seeking shade, especially when the sun is at its strongest, can all help reduce your
01:20exposure.
01:20The goal isn't to avoid the sun altogether.
01:23It's about enjoying the outdoor while taking better care of your skin.
01:27Because being your best self isn't only how you look today, but every day.
01:32It's also about the healthy habits you develop now that can benefit you for years to come.
01:37So before you step outside, make sunscreen part of your daily routine.
01:41Until next time, I am Charlotte Kistri reminding you to be your best self.
