Released in 1979, Black Belt Karate (originally titled Karate Sabuk Hitam) is an energetic Hong Kong-Indonesian co-production that highlights the golden era of 1970s martial arts cinema.
The film follows Tommy (Larry Lee), a country youth who moves to the city with a passion for martial arts. After securing a job at the Elang Emas (Golden Eagle) karate school, his natural talent earns him a spot as a student, eventually advancing his skills to earn a 5th degree black belt in Hong Kong. However, his quick rise and close bond with the master's daughter spark severe jealousy from a rival fighter, setting off a deadly feud between competing martial arts schools.
Featuring early screen appearances and stellar choreography from martial arts icons Billy Chong, Bruce Leung, and Lo Lieh, Black Belt Karate is packed with classic tournament fights, rapid-fire kicks, and vintage kung fu flair.
