00:09A 36-year-old father has been charged after involving his two young children in an alleged
00:15daylight carjacking in Sydney's South West. At 3pm on Saturday September 12, 2026, police were
00:22attempting to carry out a welfare check on the man in Lakemba. He allegedly fled with the two
00:28children who were confirmed to be his sons. Following a brief pursuit through Campsie,
00:34the man crashed at the intersection of Parramatta Road and Bombay Street in Lidcombe. Members of the
00:39public attempted to intervene while the man allegedly tried to enter other vehicles while
00:44armed with a knife. The man bundled the children into a Kia Cerato before forcing the female driver
00:51out of the car. The vehicle came to a stop near the Greystains Road overpass before an off-duty police
00:57officer and members of the public once again intervened, restraining him until the police
01:03arrived. A member of the public has bravely tried to remove the keys from the ignition of that car
01:09and in doing so has sustained a cut or laceration to his hand. He's been charged with three offences
01:16including aggravated robbery with wounding, a police pursuit and reckless wounding. The boys were also
01:23taken to hospital with minor injuries and were released to the care of their mother.
