00:00Half of all British drivers now say they would consider buying a Chinese car that they'd never
00:04heard of three years ago. The thing is, three years ago, nearly all Brits couldn't even name
00:13a Chinese car brand. Fair enough, there wasn't many of them relevant at that point in time in
00:17the UK. A new study of 1,270 UK drivers found 49% have a Chinese brand on their shortlist
00:27for their
00:27next car. Earlier this year, that number was 35%. That's a pretty big jump in a short period of time.
00:34In 2023, the number was 24%. Consideration has more than doubled in three years, and it's actually
00:42accelerating. Brand recognition tells the same story. Be what is now familiar to 71% of British
00:49drivers. JQ sits at 69%, up from 46% a year ago. Emoda jumped from 42% to 57%. Cherry
00:59went from 16%
01:00to 50%. Bizarrely, Cherry is less recognizable in the UK than its brands that sort of sit underneath
01:09it, which are JQ and Emoda. But the share of drivers who couldn't recognize a single Chinese EV brand,
01:16or a single Chinese brand at all, collapsed from 64% in 2023 to only 16% today. To be
01:25fair, I mean,
01:2616% of British people, if you watch that YouTube channel where they actually do interviews with
01:31people, asking them basic questions, 16% of people in the UK, they've got no idea what planet they're
01:37living on. They don't even know what country they're in, to be honest. So yeah. Why has this happened?
01:42Well, 42% say value for money. 28% point to competitive discounts. 19% say Chinese brands
01:49simply offer more EV options, which is true. And this year, 70% of CarWoww's most read reviews
01:55are Chinese models. Everything behind the BMW iX3 in the top eight was Chinese. JQ7, Cherry Tigo 8,
02:04BWD Seal, Emoda 5. To be fair, those brands do pay CarWoww a fair bit of money to advertise their
02:10product. So that obviously would help. On the Electric Viking website, I'll put a link in the
02:15description below. We have more articles about electric cars and battery technology
02:19than any other website that I'm aware of in the world. So check that out. Link is in the description.
02:27And there you'll find our videos and analysis and articles about everything going on in the EV world.
02:33The sales though back it up. Chinese brands hit 15% of UK registrations in the first half of 2026.
02:40And in April, they overtook the Japanese brands combined. 14.2% versus 13. BWD passed 100,000 UK
02:48sales in three years, a third of those in just six months. And it's now outselling Tesla as Britain's
02:54number one EV brand. Cherry Group reached 5% share in under two years, a milestone that took Kia 25
03:02years.
03:03Carl Wells at Ben Carter says, buyers are abandoning badge loyalty for technology and value.
03:12The question isn't whether Chinese brands conquer the UK anymore. It's actually how fast and which
03:18legacy brands don't survive it. All this is fair, but I've got to say, guys, I do think sometimes
03:24value, not always, just want to make it clear, not always, but sometimes value is not what you think
03:31it is. Sometimes people, they do a spreadsheet and they say, well, this car has this much power.
03:37This car has that much power. This car can charge that fast. This car can charge that fast.
03:41And this one will give me this, this and this. It'll give me a 3D camera, 360 degree camera.
03:46It'll give me this. They just spreadsheet it out and then they buy based on that. And I can tell
03:50you now
03:51that's not what you should be doing because that doesn't give you the right result. Quite often,
03:56you'll find things like software bugs will drive you absolutely mental. So if you're just buying it
04:01based on the perception of value, because you've done a spreadsheet and a lot of people do this
04:06and you say, well, this brand gives me this versus that brand can be this. It doesn't always give you
04:11the right answer. But what do you guys think? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for watching.
04:16This channel is now officially translated into five languages, each with its own dedicated YouTube
04:22channel, Portuguese, Spanish, German, French, and Hindi. Full channels. I'm not talking subtitles.
04:29If you speak one of those languages or you know someone who does, the links are in the description.
04:35And subscribing in these first weeks will really help me.
04:38It'll make an enormous difference to how YouTube pushes them out. Because at this point,
04:43yeah, they haven't gotten a lot of traction yet. It takes a while for things to start.
04:49But anyway, we're putting a lot of work into making this, getting this content out there,
04:53making this happen. Why does this matter? Well, because the EV transition is not an English
04:58language story. Brazil is one of the fastest growing EV markets on earth. And BWD is building
05:05cars there. Spain and Latin America are electrifying fast. Germany is the heart of legacy auto industry
05:12that's being disrupted. And there's a lot of people who speak German outside of Germany as well.
05:16And India is arguably the single most important EV market of the next decade.
05:22The audiences in those countries, they deserve their analysis in their own language. At least I think
05:27they do. You can already watch my videos on Billy Billy, hundreds of them. I'd rather you watch them
05:32on a channel that I actually control though. And that's actually up now on Billy Billy. I'll put a link
05:37in the description to that too.
