00:00Oh
00:55Dublin erupts as Donald Trump arrives in Ireland and the message from
00:59the streets is anything but welcoming.
01:03As U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in Ireland on September 12, thousands of protesters
01:08gathered in Dublin to oppose his visit.
01:11The demonstrations, centered around the Garden of Remembrance and O'Connell Street, brought
01:16together anti-war activists, pro-Palestine groups, political parties, trade unions and
01:22ordinary protesters.
01:23But some of the most striking scenes came from the imagery displayed on the streets.
01:28Protesters carried signs and visuals linking Trump with Jeffrey Epstein and Israeli Prime
01:34Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, using the imagery to attack Trump over his political record,
01:40foreign policy and personal associations.
01:43Posters and banners also described Trump with terms including warmonger, racist, climate
01:50denier and genocide complicit.
01:52The protest was largely focused on opposition to Trump's policies, America's role in global
01:58conflicts, the war in Gaza, Irish neutrality and U.S. foreign policy.
02:04Crowds chanted messages including,
02:07Donald Trump, can you hear?
02:08We don't want you here.
02:10Others called on the Irish government to reject what protesters described as an overly welcoming
02:16approach toward the U.S. president.
02:18The protest was primarily organized around the Irish Neutrality League's No Welcome
02:23for Trump campaign, with support from several Irish political and civil society groups.
02:29The protest began around 1 p.m. and moved from the Garden of Remembrance toward the Dial
02:35and government buildings.
02:37Reports described the crowd as numbering in the hundreds and potentially more than a thousand
02:42people, with the demonstration remaining largely peaceful.
02:46And authorities were taking no chances.
02:49Trump's visit triggered one of the largest policing and security operations in modern Irish
02:54history.
02:55Thousands of Garda shifts were deployed, while road closures and security restrictions were
03:00introduced around key locations including Dublin Airport, Phoenix Park, Shannon and Dunebag.
03:07Water cannons were also placed on standby.
03:10Despite the heightened security operation, authorities said peaceful protests would be facilitated,
03:16while disorder and interference with the president's movements would not be tolerated.
03:21Trump, meanwhile, appeared to downplay the scale of the opposition.
03:25When asked about protests during his visit, he said he had not seen anything significant,
03:31and described the demonstrations as friendly.
03:34But the streets of Dublin were sending a very different message.
03:38Trump's visit comes as Ireland maintains deep economic ties with the United States, even
03:44while large sections of the Irish public remain strongly critical of Trump and his foreign
03:49policy positions.
03:51The demonstrations also reflect wider anger over the war in Gaza, U.S. support for Israel,
03:57Ireland's policy of neutrality, and Trump's broader approach to international affairs.
04:02And the protests did not stop in Dublin.
04:06Additional demonstrations were planned or reported around Dunebag and Shannon Airport, while a giant
04:12sand mural in Dublin Bay carried another blunt message—Trump is not welcome here.
04:19For Trump, the visit is about strengthening U.S.-Irish ties.
04:23For his critics on the streets of Dublin, it became an opportunity to send a very different
04:28message—that Ireland may welcome American people and investment, but many protesters do
04:34not welcome Donald Trump.
04:36Shri Mataji.
